Kelly owes Kizer nothing. People have said both QBs were playing extremely well in camp, it's not like Kizer was running away with it then. Zaire was in for a few series and mostly was handing the ball off, which played right into Texas' hands because they were pretty stingy on run defense. Outside of Folston's big run and Kizer's designed runs, we weren't getting much on the ground. I support Kizer, and I'm fine with him being the guy, but it's not like Zaire blew it. We should have changed up the play calling better, just like we were calling head scratchers for Kizer in that last drive in regulation.

I know there's never a lot of love for Rodgers on here but as someone who has watched him every game for the last 7+ years, man does Kizer remind me a lot of him. The thought crossed my mind after he went through his progressions in the red zone and found a wide open Hunter for a TD. I can't think of a QB in CFB (I haven't watched Kaaya on Miami so I can't comment on him) who can actually play the position like that.

The throw to Hunter will be forgotten because of the injury but wow did he put that ball on a rope through 3 defenders. The wheel route to Adams was outstanding as well. He is going to keep us in every game even with the defense.

I thought CBK's play calling when Kizer was in was good to great, up until the end as noted elsewhere. If there is any "excuse" for MZ is the plays called for him sucked but he didn't overcome/check out of the vanilla play calling and make something happen in MZ fashion. He needed to.

Anyways, I can tell you this...

I'm probably looking into this too much, but Kelly seems to downplay Kizer quite a bit.

Zaire isn't near as physically imposing as Swoops. There is a reason they kept painfully saying 18 wheeler every time swoops was in.

This. I am still keeping my hopes alive that we can beat MSU and Stanford at home (though not sure defense can cover McCaffery). If the young defensive guys can catch on quickly, with DK being able to put up points, there is a slim chance we can make it to USC 10-1. We will need the luck of 2012 for this to happen.

Zaire is still the better runner. The problem is Kizer runs very well too.

I agree that the plays Zaire got were crap. There were a lot of handoffs and options, and Texas was gobbling them up last night unfortunately. Our running game needs to improve greatly, because outside of Folston's big run and Kizer's designed keepers, we weren't picking up many yards.
