RAS has been an intriguing athletic metric.

For some reason this thread doesn't show up on the front page for me. Anyone else having this problem?

No worries man. I hope Drue proves you wrong and is a ten year starter in the league.

I’m in the minority with the following: I think Drue will get picked ahead of Coney, Drue will start on special teams for the first two years of his career and then become a solid NFL starter.

I think/thought Coney will picked ahead of him, but I think Drue might have the longer career. The whole delaying his workout thing is a bit concerning. Perhaps that with Drue's nice showing, he might go ahead of Coney now. I think it will depend a little on the pro day. Regardless, Drue definitely diminished the gap though.

If he could stay healthy he could eventually end up being a safety in the NFL. If that would happen he could have a Harrison Smith like career, IMO.

I really hate putting ceilings on players but he will not have a pro bowl career at safety. He might find success at LB but he wasn't athletic enough to play safety at ND, he certainly won't be able to play the position in the NFL.

I'll eat a double helping if I'm wrong.

i'll have a helping too. Drue is around 20lbs heavier than Smith. i guess he could cut weight, but I just don't see it.

I think he'll have a long career on STs and as a backup. Possible starter on the right team with the right system. And he'll be loved by coaches, and a great locker room guy regardless. Not too shabby all things considered given he was a sub 90 recruit.

Agree. Safety is not the spot for him in the NFL. And Drue knows that as well which is why he out on the weight and asked to be moved to Buck this past season.

Drue and Dexter with essentially the same 40 time. ???

Progression of Drue Tranquil:

1) slow Purdue safety recruit, not worth an offer
2) clocked by ND coaches at 4.5, works out with Jaylon smith, offered by ND b/c of athleticism
3) considered not slow for 2 weeks; but held out too long with Purdue so not worth it
4) came to ND to play safety, thrown to wolves as freshman
5) declared slow again
6) moved to LB, apparently because of size, lack of speed
7) destroyed it at Rover
7) moved to Buck because of need, probably too small
8) Killed it at Buck
9) Helped team to playoff with other slow players like Julian Love and Miles Boykin, and bad football players like Jalen Elliot and Chris Finke

Probably too small and slow and weak for NFL, like Matthias Farley and Theo Riddick.

(Turns out the years we make the playoffs, its because we had a lot of good players...)

Watching some old game highlights tonight because there's been a lot of hype on the future lately. We're going to miss this guy a lot. Consummate ND player.

So true and the nice thing about this team is I think we’re going to continue to have guys like this. Seems like they’ve done a good job of attracting certain types of personalities.

I remember the staff going after him hard to switch him from Purdon't, and then he really burst on the scene against GT's option attack in '15, only to break viewer's hearts when he hurt himself celebrating.

He overcame a lot, never skipped a beat, and was a true leader for us. Will miss him a ton, loved him in that Irish uniform. Really hope he pans out at the next level, but he's destined for greatness in his life with any endeavor he pursues, it seems.

But...I thought we were only after him to get his brother?

Drue definitely turned out to be an RKG. Great leader, it's a shame he missed those two years due to injuries. Would have loved to have him every year.

Seriously though, we should've offered his brother.

Rumor is, whenever Marvel recasts Captain America, Drue is on the short list.

Coney can't run down on kickoffs?

It takes a special skillset to run as fast as you can, hit somebody, and make a tackle...

Don't get me started on the skillset needed to block a guy for two seconds for an xp/fg
