Just like Golson did, amirite?

I like Malik and wish him the best. I think he will be good, but will be a mix between UVA and Texas Malik....aka....inconsistent.

IMO, MZ is incredibly different than EG. EG was quiet, introverted, etc.. MZ is vocal leader. From a performance standpoint, MZ is a much better runner, and I believe will run the option much better than EG given the chance.

Time will tell. MZ performed for us when given the full opportunity (not the crap he was handed this year). Don't get me wrong, I think DK is great (probably the better option at the time), and a much better passer (although he looked lackluster a bunch this year), but I think MZ will do much better under a different HC/OC.

Let's be honest, our QBs have consistently taken a step back under BK, DK being the latest. The whole DK/MZ thing was a bad situation with MZ's injury and all, so I think a fresh start will be great for MZ (much different than EG's fresh start). He has more to prove (more desire to prove). I just think MZ has more mental toughness than EG, and will likely succeed with the right O scheme.

Born and raised in Minnesota and didn't have that same experience, at all. A lot of HS friends went to college in Wisconsin, and made even better friends with the people they met there. My sister is a Badger and I had more fun visiting her in Madison than I did at school myself. In fact, my sisters husband is from Chicago, and he moved to Madison for work. With a host of his HS buddies. So I can say that I've had the complete opposite experience.

But I was just joking with my last comment in the previous post.

Oh I know. They think they're funny when asking if anybody in a group is from Illinois and then cussing them out. What they don't realize is that they just hate people from Chicago, and rightfully so. ;)

If choosing between Wisconsin and UNC, he'd be foolish to pick UNC. Larry Fedora is an even bigger asshole than Kelly and is so disliked by the UNC administration that he tried to leave for Baylor and even Baylor didn't want him.

Wisconsin people dislike Ill-Annoy because they take up all the parking spots at the Dells. I live one state over and everyone blames Chicago/ Ill-Annoy everytime we have a crime. To be fair, one can usually find a link to the city that blows its crime out to surrounding areas.

Born and raised in Illinois, Wisconsin is full of trashy people who hate anybody from the state south to them just for existing. For this reason, I always give them shit, like reminding them of Russell Wilson's last play in college.

I do actually like some places in the state, and have several friends from there, but I always take my shots.

I too am born and raised in Illinois, and couldn't see this further from accurate. Most people i have met in Wisconsin are very easy going down to earth people. Also like Lucky said, Madison is one of the best college towns i have been to as well. If you think Champaign is better than Madison you are crazy.

I'm no Einstein, but even I'm not dumb enough to claim that.

He only has to put up with it for a year, Fedora needs him and he'll be able to get reliable feedback from Trubiskey. UNC also has the least competition and no experience coming back of these two. Wisco started the young kid Hornibill or Honibrook (?) this year.

On the academic side UNC is way up the list in mass media on the broadcasting side. It's not Syracuse or Northwestern but both of those schools have young starting QB's coming back. To be fair, Wisco has a highly rated school of media and journalism too, that's why he's there.

i'll lol if MZ ends up at Wisconsin doing a Masters Degree in Cheese Production or something after reading that.

It may not ultimately have any impact whatsoever, but I do find it odd that we didn't put any restrictions on Zaire's transfer and BVG is now at UGA. So we could very well have two opponents next year, that have an intimate knowledge of what we want to do. Because even if the defense has changed, the offense more than likely won't have. Kind of a head scratcher to me.

Shit i hope they let BVG game plan. Sounds like 40 points.

Oh I agree, especially with the bolded. I really hope MZ does well and I think he deserves it. But I think it is really tough to for the 5th year QB to widely succeed. RW did it and a few others have had some success. But I think it will be tough for MZ to go into a new situation and produce superior results. I think he will do well, just not superior.

The thing is, whatever coach he plays under next, he's not going to be asked to do half of what BK asks of his QBs. That's part of the reason Golson was successful for quite a bit at FSU, because Jimbo's offense doesn't entirely go through the QB. I don't think MZ will necessarily be superior either, but I could see him having a very good year wherever he goes. He's never really had the turnover bug like Golson, so if you put him in a position with a physical OL that likes to run the ball, and a competent back, I could see him doing very well slinging the ball /w play action.

Define superior. Superior to what he did at ND as a whole? Superior compared to what the QB did before him at his next stop? If he goes to Wisconsin, Florida, Auburn or MSU I would expect him to have superior QB results compared to those team's '16 seasons. If he goes to UNC or Clemson I would not expect superior QB stats. Pitt might be the closest to what I would expect, though to be honest J Peterman had a very good season all things considered.

Superior to me is getting conference and national award consideration. He is a good player and I expect him to have success. But to the OP of this conversation, I don't see ND fans flipping out at his success.

If I'm not mistaken because he's a graduate transfer. He can transfer wherever he wants.

There was an article a few years back about a basketball player who graduated and transferred but never got to play at his new school because his old one didn't release him. Unless something changed in the past year graduate transfers are no exception to this rule. The control schools have over their transferring players is ridiculous, IMO.

I think Kelly just honestly has a soft spot for Malik and that's why the restrictions were lifted.

Malik won't know the new defense so what does it matter?

Not just scheme...He knows the personnel, and based on Malik's game, and how he hurts you, that may matter as much.

That said, If ND simply does their job (collectively) well...they should beat everyone on their schedule. ND owns their destiny...NC has to hope ND is still weak along the D front, poor tacklers, and inconsistent in pass coverage, inconsistent, and undisciplined on offense. With the change on defense coming, and Kelly's ability to be a rookie QB wisperer...should beat NC with or without Malik.

you guys think Malik will be a success at UW or UNC? I don't see it myself

If he goes to a place where he can use tempo...lots of pre-snap reads, and lots of ability to run it himself, he will be pretty good. If he is counted upon to do a lot of passing with a ton of post snap reads and progressions containing 3 reads +...he might struggle...at least early.
