Soooo. Rees did not have a defense to protect him like Golson had in 2012 and the first five games of 2014. Fedora absolutely exposed Van Gorder last night with tempo and play design. So with Golson having horrible fumble issues running it's basically worse than a Rees INT because they are occurring in bad field position versus basically a bad punt. Not only giving great field position to our opponents but he is making horrible decisions passing. We will absolutely start losing with the TOs and if VanGorder does not come correct on Saturday.
I don't dispute that Golson could cost us a game with turnovers but if we are making comparisons then I don't think it's fair to say his fumbles are worse than Tommy's INTs. Golson is throwing more TDs and running more TDs than Rees could and that has been the difference. How many times were we in games last year that had a back-breaking Rees turnover? I'm a Rees apologist but we could've beat Stanford in Palo Alto but he threw another INT and he wasn't dynamic enough to make up for it.
The defense has been lights out but Golson has done his part for each of the 6 victories, so let's not go too far lambasting our starter who is 15-1.
