If your in your 5th year of eligibility it implies you already graduated so you will be imediately eligble anywhere

If you graduate with eligibility remaining you can go anywhere to use it. It isn't technically a transfer. You graduated from one school and start grad school somewhere else. So the transfer rule doesn't apply.

Weird...sorry if that was talked about previously.

Well...I love Dayne. I wish him all the best. I hope he does go somewhere to play in a pro-style offense and I hope he lights it up.

I just hope we don't have to play him.

Bingo. Like what Greg Paulus did when he graduated from Duke but enrolled at Syracuse and had 1 year of athletic eligibility available and used it to play football.

Russel Wilson didn't have to sit out when he went to Wisconsin. So Dayne wouldn't have to sit out.

I back Dayne whatever he decides. He's been a class act, and he's shown real guts coming back from two major knee injuries.

I believe the rule for a player who has graduated but has a 5th year of eligibility, in order to transfer and not sit out, you must pursue a graduate degree in something not offered at your undergraduate institution.

This is correct. Although in practice most every school has programs that, although probably identical, are named different enough to be considered valid in this rule. Rule has good intentions but they make a joke out of it for eligibility purposes.

Which reminds me about chris stewart attending law school at Notre Dame. Every week they made a huge deal about how rigorous it was and then he didn't even continue in the spring... I realize he wanted to make it in the NFL but what are the chances that he goes back to finish law school? Maybe I'm just pessimistic about the whole situation.

That was because NC State didn't have Wilson's program and Wiscy did.

I hope Dayne ends up at somewhere like UCLA. I would hate to have to play against him... I can just see a Zach Frazier 2.0 situation occurring.

Would love to see him finish his degree. It would be put to great use, as an NFL league negotiator or similar. We'll see how the NFL career goes. If he only is there for a year or two, I think he'll come back.

He did say he wants to try the NFL first before finishing his law degree. One year of attempting really isn't giving it a shot. I can see a few years go by before he stops trying at an NFL career. I still think he has a chance to be a decent OG.

Isn't there a clause that allows you to transfer without losing a year if it's to transfer home? He is from Cali.

No.

In addition to the 5th year "transfer" discussed here. The NCAA will take extenuating circumstances into consideration for a transfer. I can think of two players who transferred "back home" and didn't lose a year of eligibility. In both cases the real reason was the dead of the player's father and the player moving closer to home to lessen the hardship on the family. In both cases UND worked with the player's family, the new school, and the NCAA to make it happen. Fortunately it's not a common occurence.

Other than that if you want to go home, you transfer to a lower division or sit out a year.

I also hope we don't have to play him as he'd have to put those rebuilt knees up against an even stronger Irish defense.

Just this past year we had 4. Wenger, Romine, Paskorz, and Nwankwo.

I didn't know Nwankwo was still playing. Where is he at?

I know Paskorz is at WV, right? But he is a linebacker so of course I didn't think of him. :stickoutt

That is kind of funny, in a very sad way...

Seriously though, taking a step back from this game and looking at it for the way they whole 60 minutes went, if you take out that play, can you honestly say the rest of the team played well enough to deserve to win the game? Because I can't. Which is why I can't put all this on Dayne. It sucks for him what happened, and he screwed up royally. But even if they scored a touchdown there, w/ the way the defense was playing and the way the offense played for most of the night, I can't sit here and say they wouldn't have lost anyway.

It happens in every sport, in every part of the world.. Some people just fail to meet expectations.

The blame could be passed around in many different ways.. from coaching indecision, knee surgeries, play style changes to an overall lack of confidence.

The fact is, no matter what Dayne went through the past 4 years, he had a chance to tie this game and he fumbled. Not only did he fumble but he literally projected the ball behind him.

We are ND and we still play scared of our own shadows.

Everybody was picking up momentum including defense, but I definitely don't put all blame on Crist. We had been taking ourselves out of the game long before that.
