I see, thanks for the info. I had no idea. That is really disappointing. People can be such selfish a-holes. I admit sometimes I get bummed out or even angry about recruiting, but I would never take my disappointment or anger out on teenage kids. I wish some people would keep in mind that these kids don't owe them anything and have every right to make whatever decision about their future they think is best. It's just pathetic when people (especially grown people) act otherwise. Makes me sad.

Darby. Weeks before he decommitted is when the "Tee to USC" saga started.... naturally, idiots in the group started blowing it up with ridiculous posts. You can imagine the content, anti-Tee, anti-Kelly, anti-Greenebrry, anti-USC.... just a lot of frothing at the mouth about life.

Darby took umbridge to it and said something to the effect of "Relax. If he's meant to be at ND he'll be at ND." (paraphrasing that from memory) then people jumped on Darby... and then Darby left the group... and then Darby decommitted.

And I'm sure that is only the half of it. People on there also ragged on Perkins... I mean, it just turned into NDNation once they let in a couple hundred fans. No matter what way you slice it... it can do nothing but hurt to have your fanbase come off as psychotic and entitled and immature. It had to have had an effect on the recruitment of a couple kids or Lou never would've been asked to pass on the message he did. Just sad.

First, I honestly feel that the saga with Darby would have happened one way or another. It seemed like he was continuously looking for an excuse to get out the door. Whether this was the final push or not, who knows.

But having said that, anyone who's even looked at the group for 5 minutes can recognize that banal, unintelligent, and utterly ridiculous banter that goes on in that group. It's simply hilarious how these people think and say the things that they do. The problem is that it does have a negative effect. But at the same time, these are the same people who tweet the same stupid things at these recruits.

I feel that the staff made the right move because what separates this stupid group is that members include recruits. So anyone in the group spewing their nonsensical thoughts on a whim spews those same thoughts to recruits. If these fans want to talk Notre Dame, that's great, but there's forums to do so that don't hurt the recruiting aspect of what the staff is so well-paid to do (well at least hopefully).

Man, stuff like this pisses me off. It's so beyond the control of people in charge to prevent recruits these days from hearing nonsense that ultimately can steer 18 year olds in a different direction. The fact that these "fans" don't realize that taunting and trash-talking recruits doesn't help ANYTHING is simply beyond me. Sorry for the rant.

If such behavior contributes to the loss of ONE recruit for Notre Dame, ever, that loss, on the balance pan of real value, massively outweighs any immature self-oriented pleasures that jerk-fans are getting from chatting up, and ragging on, young players.

This obvious perspective applies, by the way, to IE as well, which is why Terry, LA, the mods in general, GB, BGIF, and several of the rest of us have remained constantly irritating to the knee-jerk [there is a reason it's called "jerk"] commentaries that people blurt out here. How is it possible that a Notre Dame fan, especially an IE one, can completely honor their own piddling emotions and "opinions" to the detriment of the Team? Do people think that their emotional state at the moment trumps the Team's success? Do they think at all? One wonders if they themselves have ever really participated in any true team play of any sort. It's called "Loyalty" and self-sacrifice.

So,the BangBang experience is a caution to IE as well, and a call to Terry, LA, and all the mods to continue to aggressively "sheriff" this place. And the rest of us to give them support as they do so.

+1 to all of this.

Good thing we have multiple admins on the IE group. Nothing gets out of hand there, at least for too long.

Beautifly put Mike. It is great to have a place to dicuss and read about ND football without the "Doom and Gloom" talk or irrational crazy rants. (I aint perfect, the FSU game got me close to jumping, and I apologize :)). In all honesty this is a great group of mostly intelligent respectful people with Mods that have the "Team" in mind first and for most.

It was a great idea gone bad. It was great being able to talk to the guys on the team, I make it a policy to never speak to a recruit. But the guys on the team posting pics and talking about stuff happening within the confines of the team.

It could still be pretty awesome if they had Mods like our squad. Free speech is Free speech, but some of that crap crossed the line WAY too far. Tee actually left the group when the Greenberry mess went down, he has since come back though.

If anything I would like to see it completely moderated and just have the guys on the team post interesting stuff. As it is now, anything gets lost in the ocean of dumbness.

Speaking of dumb, can someone please go shut this guy up?

Haha wow, and I wish I could. I write a blog myself and am definitely not trying to toot my own horn, but that is absolutely awful. I guess if a stream of incoherent (un)consciousness is your idea of Notre Dame entertainment, then read that blog.

I have no problem with people exercising their right to talk about damn near everything they please, because I for sure do. But I do have a problem with people providing this babble to the public at large, including recruits. Good post phork - I remember seeing links to this over and over again whenever I happened to glance at the Bang Bang group. Awful stuff, really. So glad that any recruit in the facebook group could open up that page.

Member of that group for one reason only to follow recruiting.
Can honestly say I have no memory of contacting a recruit nor speaking to one.
Let the kids alone and use it as just another tool to follow recruiting.

That thing turned into a joke obviously. I sent quite a few private messages to the so called "fans" in that group telling them to knock off the bashing and they all said the same thing back. No recruits read it and no one cares because its the internet. Some people are just clueless.

Yeah. Those are the same morons that post how much they hate their boss on facebook and can't believe it when they return to work the next day only to get fired.

I dont understand how, after all these years of myspace, facebook..etc, people can't grasp that the internet isn't private, and posting something stupid can ruin your life. I still have friends who mock me for using an alternate name on facebook, theyre saying "thats gay, dude...employers dont actually check it". lol and they wonder why theyve been on unemployment since 2009

I look at the board when Im bored or there was info on Elliot.

Usually only post facts from Twitter or correct the assumptions ppl make

on here I'm a optimist but on there I am somehow a pessimist because I tell them thinks like Issac is likely not coming
