Just get on campus for fall semester and end all this drama. This year IMO no doubt trumps 2011 fiasco.

What of these quotes is fact, and what is supposition?

Here are the quotes from Luke Neal that BGIF previously posted, I guess the rest is supposition
IrishIllustrated.com - Neal transfers, Kelly confident

Father Luke Neal told Irish Illustrated the move had been in the works in the past week and is designed to let the future Notre Dame slot receiver focus on preparing for college. Neal won't run track this spring, instead concentrating on his academics and off-season training.

Central High School operates on a quarter system with Neal set to enroll there in March for the final academic cycle. ...

"That's exactly what this is, an opportunity to focus on school with no distractions," Luke Neal said. "It's just 'hi' and 'bye' now at the school. He can just go to class, come home, work out. That's it.

"He doesn't know anybody and nobody knows him."

I hate to burst your guys' bubble, but my high school is right next to central high, and academics at central high is a joke. This move was not about academics.

Dude,

#1 - the avatar. PLEASE shrink that hideous thing.

#2 - I don't think we assumed that the local public high school was academically superior to the school he was at. It seems to have been about getting out of the situation he was at there - as his dad said, he can get some anonymity at the new school so he can just concentrate on his school and getting ready for college, rather than deal with the distractions where he was.

1. I don't know how to shrink it! give me some instructions and I'll do so

2. My avatar is not hideous. It's AMAZING.

3. What are the distractions that would make Neal transfer?

1) I don't know either, but if you cant figure it out, then just get a new one. It's beyond annoying.

2) Keep telling yourself that. You're spidey-man onesy in your senior pic was amazing to you too. They were laughing at you dude... not with you.

3) No one knows him, he doesn't know anyone else. He can focus on graduating instead of dealing with everyone dissecting every little thing he does... like you're doing.

If you haven't got that Neal was being harassed for not going to Arizona, I don't know where you've been.

I mean, it was said in the article that his class rank would go up by transferring. I thought it was pretty obvious that the academics at his new school were not up to par with his former.

This doesn't mean this wasn't a somewhat academic move though. Like it's been said, by getting away from all the haters at his old school, he can focus more on academics.

Hate to burst your bubble but ND is OK with the transfer.

Notre Dame football notebook: Irish coaches on board with Neal's transfer
February 27, 2012|By ERIC HANSEN

...

Irish coach Brian Kelly is now confident it won’t end up as a detour.

After initially catching the Irish coaching staff off-guard, Kelly embraced the family’s decision to have the 5-foot-10, 175-pound standout move from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral to Phoenix Central to finish his final three months of high school work.

...

“He’s going to have his academics taken care of, and that’s really the most important thing for us,” Kelly said Monday afternoon from ND’s Loftus Center. “We’ve had conversations with people necessary relative to his academics, and we feel confident.”

Good read, thanks for the link. I feel like Arnold does a pretty good job for Inside the Irish.

In particular, I liked the part that focused more on the changing culture at ND rather than the focus on Davonte that we've discussed in much detail. It's a good point. I think that the NFL helps in recruiting, but I don't want ND to be a stepping stone to future NFL success. I want players to come in wanting to play at Notre Dame, and as a result move on to the NFL.

Maybe I'm not seeing or making the right distinction, it's early in the morning haha.

I can't find anything, but Brian Kelly, in at least two interviews stated that he wanted players that come to ND for ND, not the kind that look at ND as a springboard to the NFL. The first time he said that I thougt of Clausen, and Tate, so it must have been early on; the second must have been last spring. But he has actually talked a lot about his view of the culture at Notre Dame.

Yeah I agree, and I love it. That's the right kind of culture to have.

I thought the tone of the article was a little harsh. Sure, it may seem like Neal has a little diva in him based on his unconventional recruitment, and maybe his recruitment could have been handled better, but I don't think it's fair to judge without knowing the full circumstances. He seems like he is totally focused on being a successful college football player, and his dad seems totally focused on helping him become the type of student and player who can be a successful college football player, and even if they made mistakes during the recruiting process they seem to have been well-intentioned. Arnold seems to suggest that the way the Neals handled the recruitment indicates selfishness on their part, but I'm going to need to see more overt and unequivocal selfishness before I judge the kid. Nothing wrong with wanting to do everything you can to make sure you put yourself in position to be successful at the next level, and that may be all the Neals have been trying to do.
