...I'm worried about this kid, not because of who he is...but because of the "pig pen" like cloud of dramma that surrounds him. When does he get to just be Davonte Neal, Student-Athlete-Irish....

Wish I could tell him none of this stuff will matter in a few months...look beyond it all, and focus on what is coming.

I agree. I'm not going to pass any judgment because I don't know any of the facts, but it is worrisome that he attracts the drama that he does. Hopefully, this is all for a legit personal reason, and he is doing whats best for him. I would hope he ran this by ND before making his move.

Weird for a kid to transfer over half way through his senior year.

Also weird to have 2 relatives die in a two week span and have a 40 year old man call you out in front of the entire country for something that didn't happen. Can't imagine too much in Davonte's life has been normal recently.

Truth. Bad enough this kid has gone through so much lately, we don't need Irish fans piling on. I'm giving the kid the benefit of the doubt. I can't imagine going through so much turbulence at 18 years old. He deserves our support.

Time for everyone to chill out and turnoff the judgement button.

He lost a cousin and an uncle.

Now he's transferring from the high school whose former coach now works for dickrod at Arizona.

I'm so sure things are pleasant for him there.

These same beasts probably cried for Floyd's dismissal. How'd that turn out? Bad call there too?

Pussies.

All that matters is that he is still on track to graduate and be at ND. His reasons for leaving and going to another school are he and his family's business.

Hopefully he can keep his head clear the rest of the year and not worry about public opinion.

... Neal enrolled today at Phoenix Central, a Central official confirmed Monday.

...

Neal signed his letter of intent last Tuesday afternoon with Notre Dame at his former elementary school, Kyrene de la Esperanza, after not showing up to a scheduled morning news conference in front of the school's student body because of personal reasons.

...

NO truth to the rumor that Chaparral was trying to one up Don Bosco's Twitter Termination with an Elementary School Assembly No Show Discharge.

Neal's class academic ranking likely will rise at Central.

There was a sound reason. (Johnnykillz listed some others)

IrishIllustrated.com - Neal transfers, Kelly confident

...

The four-star Irish signee withdrew from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Monday and will restart his academic march toward graduation and eventual enrollment at Notre Dame at Central High School in Phoenix.

Father Luke Neal told Irish Illustrated the move had been in the works in the past week and is designed to let the future Notre Dame slot receiver focus on preparing for college. Neal won't run track this spring, instead concentrating on his academics and off-season training.

Central High School operates on a quarter system with Neal set to enroll there in March for the final academic cycle. ...

"That's exactly what this is, an opportunity to focus on school with no distractions," Luke Neal said. "It's just 'hi' and 'bye' now at the school. He can just go to class, come home, work out. That's it.

"He doesn't know anybody and nobody knows him."

Neal signed with Notre Dame last week after a false start at Kyrene de la Esperanza Elementary School where the athlete didn't attend his own ceremony the morning of Feb. 21, then returned to the school later that day to fax his letter of intent to South Bend.

The elementary school signing was unconventional even if it had gone to plan, but Neal's high school transfer may shed some light on why he didn't sign at Chaparral. ...

"He's more focused than I've ever seen him," Luke said. "There's so much inside him that he's letting out in a positive way."

I don't think I could agree more with all of this. I think we sometimes forget that these kids are 18 years old. I couldn't possibly imagine losing two family members within such a close time frame right now, let alone at 18.

I actually look at this in a different light anyway. His Dad said he's transferring to focus on academics and working out. He wants to be more than prepared to make the jump into college.

So let me get this straight. He's dealt with two horrible family emergencies, a recruitment solely in the national spotlight for weeks, all kinds of negative and uncalled for speculation from the twitter mafia double his age, still wanted to apologize to kids for the signing even though his family emergency was legit, and is now transferring schools to make himself even ready for Notre Dame.

Damn, he might be one of the more mature kids of the class.

All those factors Killz noted are still affecting him at the new school expect for one,

Now he's transferring from the high school whose former coach now works for dickrod at Arizona

There are probably a lot of AZ fans at the new school but without the ties to the old coach and several teammates that inked with AZ.

Astounding how many "quick-to-judgement" ... well, what else can you say but "jerks" will jump in on a young man just to hear themselves gush deprecatory crap. We [Notre Dame] have been interacting with this young man and his family for a very long time. Wouldn't one think that Coach and the Staff knew a great deal about the character of both the athlete and his family?? But apparently this obvious fact is insufficient to trump a sudden flash of meatballism coursing through an adolescent brain, and pouring that out into the public where it can continue to inflict discomfort on some fine people who need no more of that.

God bless you, Davonte, and your parents, for being able to hear things like this and shake them off for the immature products of thoughtless minds that they are. I and I am certain almost everyone on IE welcome you and your folks whole-heartedly to the Notre Dame family. Unconditionally.

To Johnny: right on, my friend.

I said my peace before. This time I let my brother from another mother have at it. Nobody knows, (anything for sure), but when you hear this wild off the wall hatefull ****, all it is is a view inside the mind of the author.

I have seen all kinds of posts from that, to posts telling the coaching staff how to "do it." Or even "why things didn't result in a NC. I just shake my head . . .

But go OMM, NDinFL, BGIF, Wabash, ChiRish, Tom (Rhode Irish), and Johnny!

I just went back and read about the tragedy this Family has had to endure. I cannot even imagine the pressure and stress Davonte is going through at this moment. This is a young man who has lost two family members inside a month and has had the media and social networking sites swarming him at the same time about his decision on where he will play a game. I cannot fault anyone who has had to go through that much of an emotional rollercoaster as he has. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Davonte and good luck at your new school.

Drama aside, I was kind of hoping that Neal would be our RB with Mahone. Get the ball in his hands more often, and allow Russell and GA III to focus solely on playing WR. I know the coaches know better than I, just my thoughts.

I, along with others, have speculated this transfer came about due to kids at his school giving him a rough time. After reading the Irish Illustrated article with quotes from Dad, I think this transfer is all about academics. If you were transferring to a new school cause your friends were giving you crap, I would think it would probably be even worse at the new school.

I'll dare to speculate again and say that with all of the college visits and all the focus on recruiting during January and February combined with the tragedy of his cousin dying, it would be easy to see how a kids academic focus would take a hit.

I don't know how much we should be concerned, but transferring to a different school during the last half of your senior year seems like a pretty big deal. The good news is that Luke appears to be taking this very seriously and taking the proper steps so that Davonte can succeed. With probably no friends at Central, his only focus will be on academics. Hopefully everything works out and Davonte shows up ready to kick some butt.
