Reposting this here from the Max Tuerk thread:

One of ESPN's USC bloggers explains the sanctions in light of the failed appeal here.

And regarding this NDinLA quote:

How aggressive can they get with transfers and gray shirts? If the ESPN blogger cited above is correct, USC only has 6 spots available for 2012 recruits currently. Can they really push up to 9 kids out the door in order to max out the 2012 class at 15?

Well i believe, with there numbers right now, they can take like 2 more guys in. Have to remember that seniors can, and will transfer. Other underclassmen may consider transferring as well. 5th year guys may not be asked back. I am sure they will be able to massage the numbers to get 2-15 guys. It will be harder next year.

They'll be begging guys to leave now.

Its really getting ugly on WeAreSC, they're really turning on their own over there. Classy bunch. Times get tough and they turn cutthroat with their own guys. Disgusting really.

Years upon years of military service with USC fans while we were getting shellacked, this seems justified...I'm going to gloat to all those ****ers on faceyspace since I can't just walk out of a barracks room and start slinging ****. Happy happy days...

Just wanted to say that I'm very excited and anxious to see how this plays out. SC took a pretty full class last year. No matter how you work the numbers, they're going to be in a pinch for the next few years. They will always attract the quality players, but quantity is what will be the demise of the Trojans. No quantity = No depth and we all know the result of lack of depth.

Of the 30 Southern Cal signees last Feb, six are not qualified. Three have minor work to complete and are expected to qualify. Three have major issues (GPA/Test Scores) and are not expected to qualify although they still have a chance.

yea things have just gotten a lot harder for those coaches....i wish them the worst.

USC was already displaced as the biggest threat in its conference by Stanford and Oregon.

Notre Dame is on an upward trajectory with a great coach.

USC is stuck with a terrible coach in Lane Kiffen....and now this. Shame that Cal and UCLA are so inept because they should be pouring in recruits now.

Cal seems to be doing better in regards to recruiting, but you're right they just never seem to be able to put all the pieces together to be a good team.

I hear you brother. I always heard about it from my fellow soldiers too. It's payback time and my turn to give them all what they deserve.

Me too because they've been deceiving kids since they took over there saying not to worry about the sanctions before they were handed down and promising them that they would get reduced on appeal. Couldn't happen to worse used car salesman than Ed O and Kiffin.

Lastly, people should remember that the NCAA recently cited Kiffin for shenanigans due to actions in his tenure at Tennessee. Does he make it past year 4 at USC? I really don't think so.

Best part about the bolded part is the current state of the program isn't directly linked to Kiffin, so he will be given the benefit of the doubt while the sanctions are still in place. Unless he commits a violation himself, he will be there for a few years after all of this stuff passes by, which should further run the program into the ground.

I think he'll have to stay unless he messes up. Who is going to go into that situation that is worth anything as a coach?

funny thing is we said it from day one when carrol left that he had some skeletons in the closet. you wouldn't leave a program like usc had for an nfl job in Seattle. at the time usc was by far the better job. he wasn't fooling anybody at the time and to this day he hasn't fooled anybody who is competent.

So is it a reduction in th max on the team (from 85 to 75) or is it a reduction in the number you can take in each cycle (25 to 15)? I have heard both sides but I am confused. It seems like if it is the latter they could just fill the gap with transfers.

Both. u$c will be hurting for years, hopefully we can capitalize.

Man, I love reading their (USC) comments. I don't understand how they feel the way they do. If I rob a bank, and get arrested, it is my fault and I do my time...simple as that... where is the logic?

Wait . . . are they being serious with this outrage, or am I missing the joke?

Its like dealing with a prepubescent juvenile delinquent. Do a bunch of bad stuff, and then the authority figure that punishes you for it is the bad guy.

Nobody likes the NCAA less than I do, but my problem with them seems to be the opposite of Condom Fans'. The NCAA will punish coaches/programs for silly infractions of backwards rules, then turn a blind eye to blatant institutional cheating by "power" programs (see: the SEC). In this case, the NCAA finally grew a set and slapped a glamor program, and deservedly so. In reality, the NCAA probably could have done more to USC, but they couldn't have done less with a straight face.

An environment of utter disregard for the rules existed at USC, across their entire athletic culture - not just football, for a prolonged period of years. USC fans are in denial if they think the punishment handed down by the NCAA was harsher than warranted. If anything, it was lenient. At USC, a culture existed that treated compliance rules as suggestions, and flaunted them openly and arrogantly. The NCAA would have been warranted in shutting the whole thing down.

Welcome to Los Angeles... the above pretty much covers the general whole of So Cal... SC represents the people here well...

;)

In other news I tuned in to The Heard today firstthe first time in a long while to hear what he had to say... How do people listen to him anymore?? All he does is talk NBA 24-7 now... UGH!!!

anyway, when he finally decided to spend one minute on this he said SC now has the cleanest program in the country.... I waited all that time to hear that... lol... I shamed myself.

To PLAC4ever: I believe that someone tried to explain the USC "30" last december or january. I may not get this right, but it has to do with the fact that USC was appealing the sanctions at the time so they were not in effect. Kiffin then did something "clever". Knowing that he was going to ultimately lose, he decided to max out his offers [which included some gray-shirting or via early enrollees counting against the previous class which had small numbers] in order to stock his numbers as high as possible in anticipation of slim years to come. My understanding of this is that this move was legal. His over-stocking however is felt by some to have been done in enough desperation that many of those guys are in fact more "filler" type players than USC usually holds out for.

Again, I may not have all that precisely correct, but I think this happened sort of along those lines.

Thanks Mike

Is this the way to respond to an organization with a complete lack of ethics? Is this how to respond to an organization that has changed their rules over and over to cover their rationalizations? Is this the way to respond to the prejudices of the NCAA?

The NCAA is an organization that has denied due process, eliminated rules and precedents and penalizes with no guidelines. They need to be held accountable and not be appeased.
LAWL You cheated! Deal with it!

This must have been what happened...
