PSU is at the point now that whenever a new HC comes in he will have to remove the guts of the roster now due to their disgruntlement to start afresh turning their 2/3 year rebuild into a 5/6 year one.

Terry Smith has to go too. The new coach has to stipulate that. Give him a nice big severance package but he can not be on the staff.

Imagine being the coach that takes over and has to do that.

The players didn’t get the guy they wanted and then the new coach shows him the door. It would require serious damage control.

What he pulled with the Paterno pin and speech ended his tenure at PSU. Kraft would never hire him now. They would need to fire Kraft. He’s gonna head to Blacksburg too

It’s pretty poor leadership to let the locker room run rampant publicly, even if it is in your favor.

Hes a Joe Pa cult loyalist though. I'd imagine any coach at PSU has to have some sort of representation for them on his staff. Going against them would probably make your life much much harder

My buddy is pretty clued in with all things Pedo St.

He says that in addition to the the players, a lot of the boosters want Smith.

Kraft does not and the majority of the board also does not because of the fact that he is tired to Paterno and furthermore was so visual about playing that card with the pin.

Those same players just went .500 despite having enough talent to be considered one of the favorites to win it all. A purge may not be the worst case scenario for whoever gets hired.

The players seem to want Smith much in the way the ND players wanted Freeman. Freeman was a coordinator, which is kind of a big difference compared to Smith, but be that as it may the players want the guy who is already there. The PR optics with fans, alumni and media is something far different than that.

Terry Smith has a daughter with special needs. He could become a millionaire and have her set for life after he and his wife are gone. I'm kind of rooting for him.

Then once he were to get the job, never again root for him on the field. LOL

Except he supports Joe Paterno, so fuck him.

Franklin hired Smith, and Smith was recruiting coordinator for a time.

I would think at this point, whoever they hire would have to at least have a conversation with him and go from there, but it seems hard to imagine Smith stays if I had to bet or guess.

He started coaching in 1996 and has never coached outside the state of PA. He's also never been a coordinator. He's all in on Penn State, but for a new head coach that might not matter much.

RE: Freeman and Smith

The ND players clearly told Jack that they wanted Freeman. But, they weren't throwing temper tantrums on social media demanding it and saying that they wouldn't play for anyone else.

The sense of entitlement from the Penn State players is pitch perfect for a program that feels like it's entitled to everything yet never accomplishes anything of substance.

Or a cover when they transfer to Va Tech, where going slightly above .500 makes you a legend.

Timing was also different between the situations. Freeman got announced within days of Kelly leaving if I recall. Was it even a week?

Coach No Show got fired on October 12th. Smith has been the head coach of the team since then. If the players are rallying around him after nearly two months of him leading, I can understand that. I can also understand that the players are letting their opinions be known considering the lack of institutional control at Penn State right now.

Is it more than one Penn State player going on social media?

True.

I don't follow Penn State Twitter to know how many are complaining.

I have only seen the Rojas tweet because of it being posted here.

My Penn St. buddy told me that players, plural, have been complaining on Twitter but I don't know how many.
