No - it was at the end...he wanted them to run out the clock not throw more incompletions. He wanted out of Dodge.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t want his starting qb getting killed. DL was still comin after him like the dawgs they are

Ummm freeman was literally asking someone “do I kick a fg here?” … if you need someone to tell you that, yeah you aren’t there yet
Many NFL and college coaches have assistants with a binder full of analytics for thousands of possible scenarios. It’s standard practice to ask what the book says. It’s not like he was asking for someone else to make the decision for him. He was almost certainly asking to confirm what the data said to do in the exact scenario of score/field position/time remaining/etc.

Hate on Riley all you want. But dude took care of the football. That was the difference
He put the team on his back on a few drives and made things happen with his legs. His passing wasn't always superb, but the receivers weren't always on the same page either. Hopefully we can clean that up in the coming weeks against easier competition. All in all, great win to start the season on and hopefully this is our hardest regular season game.

Holy crap J Love just put two arms on the ball and go down.
That's my RB1. I like Price too, but I think Love gave a tremendous effort fighting for extra yards tonight against a tough defense. Big heart, big speed, just a playmaker. 6.5 YPC.

To all my Irish friends. Good game last night. Y'all were the better team. A&M has lots of issues on the offensive side - which I knew about and they showed up bigly (In my Trump voice).

I expect, barring key injuries, ND will be undefeated at the end of the years.

For those that made the trip to College Station, I hope you had a great time.

We will meet again next year. :)

Appreciate the class Bowhunter, I don't think I could digest a loss that quickly but kudos to you.

I'm positive we'll be cheering for TAMU from here on out so maybe put a beatdown on some teams for us (bonus points for taking out Kelly).

Helluva game and I think both sides feel like they were equally hosed by the refs. Hopefully you'll hop in from time to time to keep up the banter going into next year.

Thanks for the invite, I will be back throughout the year. I will be pulling for the Irish.

I have heard from many of our fans that the Irish fans that traveled to the game were great people.

The Irish D was as advertised.

What a defensive battle last night.

The crowd was amazing......but unfortunately the 12th man cannot throw passes or get separation. Elko/Klein have some work to do.

Rewatching the game, and am noticing this time how much more fatigued A&M looked by the end of the game.

Also, the hands to the face penalty ruined it, but Kiser absolutely stoned a RB on that play.

I remember coming out of my chair on that play bc I thought they had had the audacity to call Kiser for targeting.

Thanks @Bowhunter08, we are now pulling for a&m the rest of the year.
You should make the trip up when A&M heads to south bend next year, its a cool/must see campus to visit.

And as @Veritate Duce Progredi mentioned, please please do us all a favor and knock out LSU

It shows he didn’t have a plan the play before… they should have already known and called play to either try and get first down, safe play to punt, or enough yards for fg

They clearly weren’t aligned

How did they not have a plan? They were 100% running it. He’s just double checking with the guy whose job it is.

Because a no gain run was 51 yd fg, they gained 5 to make it 46… you clearly see him asking if we should kick it here … should have been known… maybe he was triple checking and I should give him benefit of doubt

Are you saying they could have done something other than run the ball? Running the ball in that scenario is the only option. Depending on what happens on the run dictates the next decision. I would be checking with my ST teams coach to confirm the confidence level of our kicker from the spot and distance. No need for a snap decision with timeouts in your pocket.

No, run all the way, but it should have been clear far in advance what point on the field you’re kicking vs punting , not a question in real time

What do you consider far in advance? Also, I just rewatched the end, maybe you’re a world class lip reader or you have a direct line to the headset but I saw no indication he said “do I kick a field goal here”. Would be interested where you came up with that.

With 58 seconds on play clock still running they pan to freeman and he says in headset do we kick a fg or go for it …. They should have figured that out once we got ball back

Dear lord he’s asking his special teams coach if he’s comfortable with the distance based on where we’re kicking off of his pregame assessment. Give it a fucking rest man.
So what the hell were they doing/discussing the 10-15 minutes (due to timeouts) before the 3rd down play? Discussing where the nd fans were in the stadium to celebrate with? lol

Everyone knew nd was running it 3 straight plays and most likely not getting a first down

It all worked out, but it was sloppy

Probably how they wanted to approach the third down play. Are you really this dense? For a guy who lied about playing ball you really have no concept of what happens in a game. It’s astounding how you think you have to critique every play. Pay attention to the guys here who actually have competed and how they comport themselves in these threads. You could learn something.

It was after the third down play…it was fourth down and freeman had no clue (it seemed) what they should do on fourth . We had a timeout to figure it out thankfully

I haven’t lied about playing … nor do I care if you believe me or not. Announcers awarded nd the win before we had it locked up and it seemed to me that freeman wasn’t sure what to do.

Funny, I also got my varsity letter today from my school I played at to donate and it came with a few free passes to any game of my choice (not football or hockey) since those tickets are at times sold out. There’s a clue to the school I played at.

I wasn’t a yes man player in the sense I just did what coaches said, I tried to understand the why behind it. I think freeman struggles game day with the “what to do and why” in big moments so he just goes off analytics to make quick decisions. But analytics don’t tell you everything. I think he can lay out a thorough good long term plan but struggles with quick decision making

To be honest I would’ve punted. A lot could’ve gone wrong there and I was surprised they kicked the 46 yard FG. So I assume that’s what the conversations were about.
