Doesn’t matter how anyone tries to spin it, they wanted Duece first.
When Duece was originally going to commit early summer, they were going to take it if he chose ND, and they hadn’t even offered Bear yet.
They offered Bear after Duece changed his timeline a second time.
Wasn't trying to spin anything. I believe all that to be true. But unfortunately had nothing to do with my question.

What I was asking was your opinion based upon where things stood at that time of the "Who's first" photo.

From what you said, Deuce had already communicated the plan to slow down the process. It seems like it's possible that the staff wasn't liking that timeline. Bear was a couple of weeks away from a visit. So I'm asking if you think the "who's first" photo message may have been more directed at Bear (at that moment in time) because he was the one that the staff thought could "pop" on his visit.

Duece isn’t going to ND I don’t think.
He just keeps extending his recruitment as if he just doesn’t want to go to ND.
At first, he literally said Tennessee & ND were his top 2. Said he loved both & would make a decision over the summer.
Then Tennessee backed off. So instead of sticking to his timeline, he then said his top 3 were Tennessee, ND & Ole Miss.
Then said he would not be deciding until after visits, but before his season started. He went to ND & Ole Miss. Then instead of deciding, he then says he wants to see teams play this fall & will decide after that.
So he keeps changing his decision process when ND is the best option.
He wants to stay south. He tried transferring to Lipscomb in Tennessee and got homesick. That was too far north for him.
I think ND realizes it’s not going to happen & if Bear wants to commit they will take him.
Don’t have anything against Deuce as a kid, but taking his commitment now is how Notre Dame ends up scrambling to find a QB commit late in the 2025 cycle when Deuce flips to an SEC school.

I think next year is another portal year. And by think I mean hope. Angeli ain't it.
Agree 100% more. I so wish Carr had a year to watch hartman as a leader, practice player, time manager, and how he prepares and handles spotlight.

Hopefully we can get someone else next year to do the same. If we're rolling out a Angeli, a true frosh, or a RS frosh as starting QB, we're going to be playing a lot of lower scoring close games.

Kenny Minchey might have something to say. When talented athletes at the QB, CB, WR positions enroll, it can be less than 2 years to understand the playbook and adjust to the speed of the game. Asking a freshman to get up to speed is a big ask. Asking an early enrolled sophomore isn't crazy. I get it can take longer for some.

With that said, I don't think Freeman will go into 2024 the way he went into 2022.....he will have viable QB options.

Agree, not saying minchey can't be ready, but it's risky if he's not having good college experience before then. We know what not having a good qb can do to a team like 2022.

Bryce young played some, but not a ton his frosh year then exploded when he started his sophmore year.

Clemson won it all in 2018 with lawrence but they relied on D and run game early then he exploded second half of the season.

Drew Allar at penn state this year, true soph, looks awesome (not against good defenses so far).

It can be done, but the coaches really need to know if they are ready. It should have been pretty clear buchner and pyne were a big risk.

I don't think the previous video was a highlight video. Usually we watch highlight videos of guys, not individual games. So, probably a more fair comparison in this video...

And slow down is unacceptable at the qb position. In modern recruiting you need your qb all in asap and then lighting up the tweeter birds and facey spaces bringing in wr talent and other offensive recruits. If you gotta piss around and recruit em past the optimum window for them growing your class then that has already shown a lack of leadership traits. Long before qb ever sees the field he is the captain of his recruiting class. Give me Bear if he is willing to decide soon and yank the talent around him in and if he aint it in 2-3 years with our willingness to pay transfer nil and the golden spot light for nil here, better will come through the portal.

Ooh, didn’t realize Deuce was visiting Auburn. Yeah he’s not coming here. He seems to want to stay close to home. Better to know that now.

So yeah Bachmeier seems fine, but I wouldn’t mind looking around a little more. This class doesn’t seem as deep as last years though. I wonder if we should go back at that kid from Zinter’s HS in Mass. who blew up and very quickly committed to Clemson. He has an arm, that one.

I wasn’t saying you were spinning it. Other places are trying to spin it as ND sees them as equals, which isn’t true.
The shirt thing was because ND had told Duece (after he changed his timeline) that they weren’t waiting on him. That if he wanted a guarantee he had to be first.

His athleticism reminds me of Buchner, but his release is much quicker and less clunky.

Compared to the previous OC/QB coach, I'm a fan of this idea of landing one of your top two options.

I don’t think deuce is as good as I thought he was and don’t think he’s a great fit at ND.

It’s funny that because Duece transferred back to his original High school a ton of ND fans don like him now. Seriously his situation reads nothing like a red flag, skill wise and potential Duece is head and shoulders above Bear and people should realize maybe he just didn’t like lipsomb. Transferring in high school is different especially if it’s when you’re an upperclassmen, I’ve known several people who have done it regretted it then returned. It says nothing bad about their character or ability to live far away in college.

I don't think Angeli will be "it"...yet. I do see promise there, but not next year.

I'm with you though. I hope we hit the portal again for another guy once Hartman leaves.

he also got a ton of time last year to springboard to this year

Nothing about his character, sure. Multiple transfers in short order, from Mississippi, allegedly "missing home" and flirting with ND while continuing to extend his timeline, or at least what the staff's expectations of them were?

That's a red flag about committing and sticking to ND 10/10 times. Not a red flag on character.

Have to think he commits this weekend now.
While I'm skeptical Deuce winds up Irish, do you want to take Bear's commitment right now if Deuce is visiting in a week? Let 'em both come and see what unfolds.

i saw something this week about Bear wanting to take visits to multiple schools so i don't think this one is just over...and then with the Deuce news, i don't think they would accept it until Deuce decides or allow it to play out longer

Wonder if ND is encouraging him to take other visits in an effort to slow play him until they get Deuce on campus again.

Imagine game planning for OSU while handling this dance lol. Why would anyone want to be a college coach over NFL.
