not for courses in your major or minor
That's not what you said. Almost no AP courses go towards your major, it's about getting electives or low level major courses out of the way...
I think they changed the AP policy back around 2019.They're bad about taking them for majors, minors, and some other programs of study. I also might have had a different experience because for some reason (the most mystifying honor I've ever gotten) I was in the glynn family honors program which basically adds a whole other core curriculum with no AP credits allowed. Maybe other paths to an ND degree allow for more AP's I just remember having almost none of mine apply
My son who graduated in 2020 was able to use a ton of AP credits to knock out probably half of the Core Curriculum.
Notre Dame felt strongly that the Core Curriculum is an important part of the education at ND and can't be replaced by AP credits earned in high school.
Daughter who entered ND in 2019 could NOT use any AP credits to meet core curriculum requirements. It was up to each "school" within Notre Dame to decide if you could use an AP class to meet any requirements of a particular major. So I think she was able to use a few AP credits towards her major.
The change meant that it was going to be much harder to graduate early or to double major. In response, ND said that they were looking at scaling back some of the required courses of some of the majors.
