not for courses in your major or minor

That's not what you said. Almost no AP courses go towards your major, it's about getting electives or low level major courses out of the way...

They're bad about taking them for majors, minors, and some other programs of study. I also might have had a different experience because for some reason (the most mystifying honor I've ever gotten) I was in the glynn family honors program which basically adds a whole other core curriculum with no AP credits allowed. Maybe other paths to an ND degree allow for more AP's I just remember having almost none of mine apply
I think they changed the AP policy back around 2019.

My son who graduated in 2020 was able to use a ton of AP credits to knock out probably half of the Core Curriculum.

Notre Dame felt strongly that the Core Curriculum is an important part of the education at ND and can't be replaced by AP credits earned in high school.

Daughter who entered ND in 2019 could NOT use any AP credits to meet core curriculum requirements. It was up to each "school" within Notre Dame to decide if you could use an AP class to meet any requirements of a particular major. So I think she was able to use a few AP credits towards her major.

The change meant that it was going to be much harder to graduate early or to double major. In response, ND said that they were looking at scaling back some of the required courses of some of the majors.

What I am most hopeful in all of this is quality LEADERSHIP by our coaches. Hopefully there were honest conversations from Freeman/Rees with Pyne about expectations moving forward and then he choose to react how he has.

I know that in leadership roles at times it doesn't matter how well you handle a person/situation, some people will always react poorly. And then you know what their character was all along. Others will respond beautifully and you grow in your respect of them and look for ways to honor them for it.

Time will tell, but this looks like solid leadership from the coaches and a poor response from Drew that showed his character.

I hesitate calling this a poor response from Drew with how fast the QB carousel is moving. Somewhere like Iowa could have been good for him and that's already off the table.

I am also surprised. Wishing him well. He was good a fair bit of the time.

Why are we upset that our most limited starting QB in decades is leaving? I could see if he pulled this before the SC game, but before a meaningless bowl game? This is best case. Whether or not Buchner plays, Angeli will get that much more attention in the 10-15 practices before the game and, subsequently, likely more snaps in the game -- it's good not only for his development, but good for the staff to see how he looks against live rounds. Might help shape their strategy for the room moving forward.

I'm sure I am in the minority here, but I lost some respect for the kid here. Leaving before the bowl game, I don't like it but whatever I guess, but not telling the coaches and having them be completely off guard is a douche move. You battled and I appreciate you, but you weren't good enough to go ahead and pull this shit. IMO
On the other side of the coin: if Buchner is in fact healthy and ready to practice & play, and you know for a fact that we are bringing in a transfer QB, Pyne is staring QB3 (at best) in the face this Spring. You know it, I know it, he knows it, even if they said 'you can compete for QB1.

There are plenty of QBs who have already entered the portal, and some have even already found a new home (McNamara and Iowa).

If he doesn't enter now, he could be out of luck. Maybe he would rather compete for a starting job now than worry about his ND undergraduate degree. Doesn't add up to me, but it's his decision.

1) Pyne is one of my favorite all-time ND kids off-the-field, up there with KLM, Zach Martin, TJ Jones, and Drew Tranquil.
2) I wish him nothing but the best.
3) I wish he would have stayed as the backup (Rees-style...)
4) There was almost no chance he was ever going to be a NC-caliber difference maker.
5) If his stats were good, it is rock solid proof that stats can't be trusted. I watched Trent Dilfer win a Super Bowl with my Ravens. Dilfer stunk.
6) If he was was going to leave, I'm glad he did it early so Buckner and Angeli get a chance to play before the Spring.

Okaaay. I don’t really get the point you make and at all how it relates to Drew Pyne lol
That people shouldn’t be that shocked that he doesn’t care about not finishing his degree

Gotta wonder if maybe somebody reached out to him and offered him a position somewhere else. That or he just felt insulted by potential ally being replaced by Buchner in the bowl game.

Regardless, while it’s undoubtedly bad to lose him right before the bowl game, a lot of you guys are giving him too much credit. Yes his stats look good from a birds eye view. But in a decade of weak armed ND QBs, Pyne 8.0 Y/A were only better than Rees in ‘13 and Wimbush’s under 50% completion percentage campaign in ‘17. All season Tommy defenders were pointing out all the missed receivers by Pyne. He had a solid completion Percentage and avoided INTs, but played behind an elite Oline most of the year.

I think he probably would have stayed if he was going to be the backup. But he knows he is going to be QB3, at best. We were all wondering whether he was a MAC quality QB. Well, we are probably gonna find out lol.

Ooh. Honors program. Fancy. ;)

FWIW, it's been a bit but I AP'd out of freshman comp and most of my language requirement. Got to my major and minor courses a little faster that way.

Generally I feel like I either get what I deserve in life or get fucked over, but getting put in that program was one of the very few times in my life I got something I definitely didn't deserve.

And yeah actually I AP'd out of my language requirement too.

They foretold of his coming, Beano just got the wrong Ron Powlus when he said he would win 2 Heismans. The prophecy is about to be fulfilled.

I could see him landing at a smaller power 5 school like a Northwestern or Indiana?

I’d be surprised if Drew is starting for a Power5 team next year. Would be ironic if he ends up being the best of our recent transfers (Golson, Zaire, Wimbush, etc…)

Probably was already mentioned, not sure on the legitimacy on the reason for transfer:

Regardless of the reason, I don't blame Drew for making the decision to bail, and to do it ASAP.

He wasn't great all season, but probably thinks he did enough to earn the nod as the #1 guy until proven otherwise. He also probably thinks he is just getting started as The Man, and can play even better next year. I understand that belief, and I understand if his expectation is that he is the starting quarterback until someone else earns it.

If he's being told that former QB1 is being given his job back now that he's healthy enough to play, or even that he is on equal footing in a competition in the spring and isn't being guaranteed anything... why wouldn't he move on, or at least look for an opportunity where he will be given a QB1 job upon entry, based on his experience? Because those opportunities are probably out there, though I'm not sure they're necessarily at the top-25 level.

And if all of that speculation leads him to looking for a new opportunity, doing it ASAP is best for business, for both him and the new team, whoever that may be.

Tin foil hat time.

ND wants to see what Buch has before the competition with the incoming transfer in the Spring. If they just make Buch the starter with Pyne available, it might look like to said transfer that Buch is the incumbent starter. If Pyne leaves the program before the bowl game. The staff had no choice but to make Buchner the starter for the game. Still wide-open competition. They get their cake and eat it too. Now back to work.

I mean, if that's the case, that they told him Buchner is back to QB1 immediately after Pyne started all season, Pyne's justified in being pissed. I'd be surprised if it's that black-and-white though.
Probably Pyne just sees the writing on the wall with Buchner coming back and a transfer coming in and knows if he wants a good landing spot he has to move fast. What I don't know though, is there a reason he couldn't put his name in the portal and still play in the bowl game?

Notice Pete said transfer and not grad transfer in that tweet. Oh well, I’d tell Drew to go be a big fish in a small pond somewhere but it’d have to be a reeaaalllyy small pond. Ok, no more jokes for me today. My first one got way too many thumbs down.

Drew truly is a selfless ND young man. Best thing he could have done for the program is to step aside and let the future unfold. We’ve seen what he can (or can’t) do. The best thing he has going for him is his toughness. I don’t see him starting literally anywhere and I sure hope he has his degree when he leaves. If he doesn’t that is just flat stupid. Knowing he won’t see the field again for ND is a huge relief. I just can’t imagine I will long for a QB who doesn’t or won’t keep the ball on a RPO’s and just hands the ball off and throws short passes to his TE. Powlus can do that. Going to go watch some film on Angeli from the Blue Gold game. That game told everything we need to know about Pyne…….that he stunk. He left like this because he was butt hurt to be sitting 3rd or fourth string next season. With that said I hope he does well wherever he lands.

I find it hard to believe he won’t get the degree.
