I guess when your families THAT wealthy, you can walk away from the degree even knowing you have no shot at the NFL.

That's assuming he didn't graduate in 5 semesters... did he? I know they have access to so many more classes online now and some guys banked hours during Covid. Who knows.
Isn't it 6 semesters and summer courses he would have completed.

So what happens when we bring in a grad transfer like Hudson Card and he wins the job, then Buchner decides to transfer. Our depth chart will be Card, Minchey, Angeli?
You grab a depth QB or two from the portal since you'll need bodies. Transfers are going to happen, this is why it's crucial to nail the evaluation of the QB that is your starter.

I feel a little bad for Pyne, he is a lifelong fan that only got a shot because TB got hurt. Played as well as an undersized backup should have all while being pretty disliked by us fans. I agree this is best for everyone involved, and wish him the best wherever he lands!

They foretold of his coming, Beano just got the wrong Ron Powlus when he said he would win 2 Heismans. The prophecy is about to be fulfilled.

This guy was weird as hell - particularly didn’t like the newsboys cap he insisted on wearing. The McGregor references and celebrations are cringe. That said, there is no denying his toughness. Thanks for your service, #10, and Godspeed ☘️🥲🫡

Realistically, a kid from Fairfield County with his background is going to get the same job regardless of his diploma says ND, BC, UVA, Duke, Wake Forest, Northwestern etc... on it. He values playing more than the ND degree which I can't really fault him for.
Plus according to many posters around here just by the mere fact that he was the staring QB for ND he must have been making millions in NIL. 🙄

I mean Braden Lenzy and Chris Tyree had NIL deals with a sports retail giant by the mere fact they play snaps. I doubt you’ll find anyone that said the starting QB is making millions plural. But a stud QB at ND 100% makes 7 figures in NIL. 100%

Pyne saw what happened with Cade McNamara and said i'm not letting that shit happen to me.
I can’t see Freeman bullshitting him and telling him he has a realistic shot at winning the job. Even if he did the writing was on wall. You’d have to be delusional not to understand the situation.

Just read Pyne was top 20 nationally in QB efficiency & was 4-1 against top 25 opponents & 5 of his 10 starts were against ranked opponents.
That’s pretty good.

Yet, we have seen Angeli do absolutely nothing in real games, yet people think he is better than Pyne? And would pass Pyne up next year?
Why?

As far as the staff being caught off guard, maybe he didn’t want to be left without a chair seeing all of these QBs entering the portal so early.

Agreed. But what about a pedestrian QB who was not supposed to be the starter when the season began?

At this point is there anything that restricts a team from recruiting someone else's starting QB mid season and paying him more? Modern college football is just a mess no blame to Drew for doing what he needs to do to be guaranteed a starting job.

Or you can go to Oregon and have that money in hand. No uncertainty about it. No risk of losing it if you don’t win the job, if you get hurt, etc.

Pretty sure you're not allowed to play for two teams in the same season, if that's what you're getting at.

And as of this offseason there are windows when transfers can transfer (we're about to enter one, I believe). Post-regular season and post-spring ball. But yes I'd guess that's one reason Pyne's declaring now instead of waiting until after the bowl game. If he waited, he'd only have a couple of weeks to shop himself around before the window closed again.

Braden Lenzy isn't going to start at Oregon. Lol. Maybe Oregon State.

I haven’t seen anyone say Angeli will be better. But the transfer almost definitely will be and Buchner already beat Pyne out once. He surely would again. Pyne isn’t getting any taller.

Also we all watched the games. Pyne is severely limited. Stats can be misleading, particular ones that say Pyne was good….

I wish him well. He played as well as he was capable of playing which, honestly, isn't good enough for a QB at ND. That said, WTF? He has to know he's not going to play in the NFL, right? Seems strange to leave before getting his degree so he can go be a starting QB at, uh, UMass? UConn? Temple?
