Pyne balling and making reads! Can't remember the last time we had a QB go through progression past 2 reads. BQ or Jim Claussen? Great game 5'9" pimpin Pyne!

He is pretty great in the pocket. Who would have thought that after his first half against Cal.

I’d love to have a grad transfer but most will want assurances of starting.
Then find someone who's willing to come in and compete for the job.
With a few exceptions - like some multi-year P5 starter with legit NFL prospects who's just stuck on a lousy team - grad transfer QBs usually aren't THAT good. There's a reason they're transferring. Don't just hand them the job, especially when we have two start-able QBs already in the room.
We need a transfer but we also need to have a wide open three-way competition in the spring.

I'm outraged at how much tolerance and near-praise this shrimp Pyne is getting.
You only have to look at his height to realize that he stinks. Clear from the beginning.
Bench him. Fire Rees.

... should have won by 50.
... life sucks.

I agree. I just think it’s gonna be difficult to find a starter quality QB that doesn’t want the job basically handed to him.

Isn't this the most ND story line though? We've watched the season's starter get hurt or get benched, only for the backup come in and surprise the doubters, 4-6x in the last decade?

Crist/Rees
Golson/Rees
Golson/Zaire
Zaire/Kizer
Wimbush/Book
Buchner/Pyne

It's almost bizarre at this point.

CJ Carr should be our backup when he enrolls.

We might have a type, and apparently it's the lesser mobile QB.

You might be on to something here...and then send a patsy in as a starter and call QB Power runs every play until the inevitable. An acceptable sacrifice?

He seems to be a poor mans Ian Book right now, which the way the season started I'll definitely take it.

Tommy knows how to call this kind of offense. He wants an accurate QB that is going to convert the opportunities that are there. I keep thinking back to that walk in TD that Diggs had against UNC on the throw back and how easy/effortless that was... Buchner honestly might've thrown that ball 5 feet over his head, etc.

Pyne might not have the arm talent to beat a "Georgia" but he's more than good enough to beat 80%+ of CFB teams and he allows the players around him to make plays.

May need to exorcise the qb room. Maybe some bad juju in getting named the starter.

just a reminder tho that we had a coach that could do this and deemed it not good enough.

That can work this year, but to get past the BK ceiling, more will be needed. I am concerned though that Pyne is going to be QB for 2023 too. Not saying TB is the better option either. But ND should still be shopping transfer portal for QB talent.

I think with the way Pyne has settled in, especially playing such a great game against BYU, we might be surprised by this offense the rest of the year.

1. Our run game has gone into beast mode. O-Line is sured up and looking stout, Estime seems to get better each game, and Diggs finding his place
2. Pyne is showing he can handle pressure and make throws. Such a GREAT game against BYU. BIG throws, going through his reads. Playing with lots of confidence.
3. Mayer is being Mayer. Ridiculous catches against BYU and such mobility for a big guy
4. Jaden Thomas finally getting in some big time game day catches. That's another BIG target for Pyne to let go up and get some catches. Mayer, Styles and Thomas is starting to look like a solid receiving core.

With Pyne starting to look for more guys outside of Mayer, we could be VERY dangerous on O going forward. Dare I say, a complete offense.
