And this is why you oversign 2, possibly 3 each year, especially at thin positions. We ALWAYS have attrition between signing day and fall camp. We should also know, based on recent history, that 1-2 players we sign on NSD don't even make it on campus.
Have 23 spots??? Sign up 25 and it will all work itself out.

Okwara and Trumbetti are not pass-rushers, and they never will be. Like you said, Trumbetti is the better player (not even close) but he is not a rusher. Okwara was the team-leader in sacks with only four, and Matthias Farley was second with 3.5 sacks. That tells the whole story.

OK, so I'll ask you again. How does losing a guy who was 3rd string, behind guys who you say aren't even pass rushers, suddenly make our pass rush non-existent? That's my whole point...it was already a bunch of unproven guys. Losing a guy who couldn't even beat out our unproven guys doesn't suddenly doom our pash rush, as you insinuated in your OP.

LA, I don't think it'll do much good arguing with the ones who already thought he was this year's saving grace as a pass rusher.......he had a reason not to be in South Bend, let's just wish the young man good luck in his endavors, wherever they may lead him!

This is easily the most devastating, unsettling, and horrible ND related news I have heard all morning........

My opinion, almost always based upon the concept of significant gains by people who have real talent and are growing into the "Man-transition" between sophomore and junior years [AND whom the staff have already seen as good enough to play some snaps] is that we will not only be OK this season and next, but WAY better than good on the DLine, run or pass.

My main intuitions about this are based upon:

a). Romeo Okwara is now a full man in age and experience. I believe that he will generate pressure every game; four sacks last year = several more this year;

b). Trumbetti was REAL good about every third play in terms of penetration. This year it will be real good every other play at least. That's plenty good for a DE; 2016 will be a "watchlist" year for him;

c). We will get much more pressure right up the middle from our DTs. Remember JJones vs FSU. That support for Sheldon will give Sheldon some occasional one-on-ones which he will either buffoon or destroy. Our other bigs will power up and drive OLines back as well. By 2016 Tillery will be a terror show, and Hayes probably like Day Mark-2.0. Those guys plus Trumbetti will be ferocious;

d). With Luke-Island and Russell-Island both in place, BVG will be able to blitz people's brains out from all directions. Jaylon Smith and Matthais Farley will kill people. Once in a while Redfield will stunningly show up in an unsuspecting QBs face. BVG will be able to call these even in the case of fast offenses, because he will not have to alter his DLine much nor his corner play. Only the strong safety and the linebackers will need rapid adjustment --- hint, some of those guys' names are Schmitt and Sebastian and Farley --- smartest in the business at it.

As always with me: God Bless your future young Kolin, but Pass the Koolaid anyway.

Because i think he was the only pure pass-rusher left in the roster (i am curious about Bonner though). Every team needs players who can get after the QB on third downs. I really like the way Northwestern uses Ifeadi Odenigbo as a pass-rush specialist (He has 29 career tackles and 15 are sacks lol), he has never started a game, but is very important for their defense because he can pressure the QB.

But yeah, I exaggerated a bit because at the end of the day, Hill is just an unprove guy but i honestly think this team need some pure pass-rushers and then i see Deon Hollins who is a great, great pass-rush specialist at UCLA and i want to cry lol

From the Bonner thread... 8-1-14

Don't take this the wrong way but there will be some defections in this group. Prediction #1... Williams becomes the next Justin Tuck or he's at Western Mich. after 2 years. If Blankenship and Trumbetti stay at DE... Hill or Bonner will leave. If Blankenship slides inside one of the DT's transfers from '13-'14-'15.

Is this something else that you picked up at Buffalo Wild Wings, because I can't wait to hear more.

Pass it around, I want some.

Time for a sig bet?

4 DE's in the same class... I will stand by my assertion that one leaves.

As far as a DT leaving if Blankenship slides over... I may pull back on that one now that Cage and/or Mokuwuah will get more minutes this year with Springmann's early retirement.

Still don't know about Matuska if he gets behind the class of '15 players...

I bet you Rochell has the best year of all of our defensive ends this year. See? You had so much to talk about that you didn't even mention him!

The point is all of these kids are two young to make absolute statements about.

And, if nothing else is becoming clear, Kelly's staff has had an uncanny ability to attract guys that have extremely high ceilings, but take a while to come into their own. In fact, I think the thin depth chart forcing many to play too early, before they were ready, has been a detriment to more players developing at a much higher level in the Kelly era.

Fox, Jackson, etc.

That's not bragging, that's a message board mic drop. Bragging was what I did when Daelin Hayes hit 6-4, 250lb. ;-)

Anyways, humble is for IU football boards (if there is such a thing). No need for that weak $hit 'round here.

...and I'll add, never under estimate the BWW intel.

Nice call. Props.

I look forward to you bumping the dozens of threads when you told us over and over and over not to worry about DB recruiting bc we were getting 2 from CA and that it was already fait accompli.

Haha, not 'hating' at all. I even said it was a nice call. A really nice call. But if you're not going to wait for others to brag for you and you make sure everyone knows how great you are at predicting things, then my thoughts are you gotta man up when you are utterly wrong, especially when you continually throw it in everyone's faces how right you are going to be.

I do hate on your ridiculous period thing you do though lol. Takes up space on my phone when I'm reading for no other reason than you needing a 'schtick', when in reality your posts should be good enough to stand on their own merits.

THAT'S ^^^^ my 'hater' speech lol.

Hahahaha...the guy with the 'period' thing as his schtick talking about someone being on the rag. Love it.

Anyway, if I was on the 'rag' I would complain about the night you wasted everyone's time by bumping 20 recruiting threads, none of which had any bearing on true ND targets. Or I'd complain about the 40 recruiting profiles you started of guys who will never in a million years choose ND. Or I'd complain about the night you needlessly bumped like 10 recruiting profiles for the sole purpose of saying "He looks like a ND type of kid." Or I'd complain more about that stupid period thing you do.

I figure since you're the "period" guy, you would know a thing or two about the rag, but I guess not. You're wrong here my man...I'm as happy as a lark.

And why are you telling me to 'seriously' put you on ignore? I don't see what is so hard about YOU putting ME on ignore if my responding to you bothers you so much. Problem solved. I don't have anyone on ignore and I doubt I ever will.

Smile more buddy!

Interesting thing about larks.....

The phrase happy as a lark comes from the fact that the melody of a larks "song" is very pleasant to the human ear. However, the male lark's song serves two purposes....to either defend territory or to attract a mate. I will let everyone decide for themselves as to which is the case here.
