Hate to see him give up, had tons of potential and was going to contribute all year. All of a sudden that D Line is getting pretty thin.

This is a worthless thread. Pump dog called it clear(ly.) Who was the kid that left a couple of years ago because his girlfriend was having a baby, and he transferred back home, and never had much to do with her or the kid? Then it came out that he was a bud arborist? Big time?

On top of that everyone is pissy, when we have an incredible group of freshmen on campus! Who could hassle OMM? And why?

The kid is gone; say goodbye, and move on to Team 127!

I was asked why the "probably" next to Ishaq's name, and to that I offer:

a). Coach has been very relaxed when he mentions Ishaq, and I simply sense that he believes that Swarbrick and company's due diligence has done what they can here with the NCAA;
b). Though sometimes glacial, the NCAA has tended to be more lenient than strict on individual people/students in the end --- I don't believe that they really want to seriously hamper young mens' lives if those persons are not criminals of some kind --- and Ishaq is very far from that.

I'm looking at recent practice and putting myself in their position, as I had to do similarly as a professor all the time. If I could rationalize giving a kid a chance I did.

Right? At this point, whatever exactly he did, Ishaq has almost certainly served his time (there's a lot of people playing college football who've done far worse things than cheat on some papers). He wants to be back and is putting in the effort to do so. And Notre Dame - which as we all know has tougher standards than the NCAA - is OK with it.
If there's any reason beyond pure bureaucracy to keep him from suiting up, I guess I'd like to know what it might be.

Anyway, too bad about Kolin Hill. Always thought he had potential to be another Prince Shembo (minus the problematic off-field stuff of course). But if he looked at the depth chart and decided he wasn't going to make it on the field, there are worse problems for us to have.

I think he looked GREAT against Michigan, he was my sleeper for this season. This team has no pass rush right now.

Players currently on the roster who had more sacks/TFL than Kolin Hill last year:

Hill: 2.5 TFL/2.0 Sacks = 4.5

Jaylon Smith: 9.0TFL/3.5 Sacks = 12.5
Mathias Farley: 6.5 TFL/3.5 Sacks = 10.0
Sheldon Day: 7.5 TFL/1.0 Sack = 8.5
Jarron Jones: 7.5 TFL/1.5 Sacks = 9.0
Romeo Okwara: 4.0 TFL/4.0 Sacks = 8.0
Andrew Trumbetti: 5.5 TFL/1.0 Sack = 6.5

I wish Kolin Hill nothing but the best, and don't have any hate for him. But I don't think his production on the field will be particularly difficult to replace.

Your point that Hill was not the only, nor most prolific loss maker is well made. However TFLs and Sacks are not cumulative. Sack are TFLs.

A defender tacking a ball carrier behind the LOS gets TFL. A defender tackling a QB behind the LOS while attempting to pass gets a both a TFL and a Sack.

From the NCAA Statistician's Manual:

Player A is solely or primarily responsible for a pass sack. He is credited with a solo pass sack, solo tackle for loss and a solo tackle, and the entire yardage lost.

Hope you're right, but I'm not seeing it. The best source we have - the Williams family - doesn't see it either.

Wish the young man the very best. But the Irish will be just fine while he goes his own way.

This year will be no problem. Him and Williams could affect us in a couple of years.

Why is that? Because this coaching staff has done such a poor job of recruiting Linebackers and Defensive linemen?

Everyone on this list except Trumbetti could be gone after this season. That's whdre Hill's transfer hurts. Plus, you're comparing his cumulative numbers to a bunch of guys with more experience and time in the weightroom.

Have you seen what we have coming up into the program?

So what? I wasn't making a standalone point about Hill not being very good. My comparison was in response to the claim that ND now has NO pass rush, with Hill transferring. And the fact of the matter is............ that's not true.

Yeah, I don't think we're in a bad spot. But Hill would be a nice depth piece to have moving forward. I think it's foolish to simply dismiss the loss of a pure pass-rusher, though, especially when the guys coming up are just as unproven, if not more so, than Hill was.

My apologies. I was more concerned with the depth after this year, so I failed to see your initial point.

And he thought South Bend was boring and in the middle of no where. 300 miles from civilization.

Go to Rice Kolin!
