Hope GB can get his stuff in order and get back on the field next year. More importantly, I hope he can get his academic issues in order. Hate seeing young men that don't seem to recognize and/or appreciate the opportunity before them.

Wasn't there a DII RB looking to transfer to ND a few months ago?
He ended up at.... Vanderbilt?

He's not on the 85 man travel roster, which is what most of us care about. I'm simply saying it may not be the best move to post quotes of people's negative comments now that he we know he won't contribute this year (and he may decide to leave).

It's best for us to wish him well and acknowledge that Greg is still growing up.

I agree. I wish him luck on whatever path he chooses. But I do hope that he realizes that this is on him.

I would prefer MZ to spend his energy being in the corner of players that care about winning and are putting in the work. Mentoring young players with desire, not suspended veterans that haven't produced on or off of the field.

Well, that's his best friend so I hope he pushes him everyday. I would be highly disappointed if he turned his back on him as you suggested. If the staff doesn't feel like the time has come to part ways with GB... MZ shouldn't either.

Where did I say he should "turn his back on him"?

I didn't say he shouldn't stay friends and be there for support. But he needs to be pushing and mentoring players on this team. If Malik's only goal is to win a championship like he says, then put your money where your mouth is, son.

Malik doesn't owe Bryant sh!t. Bryant let Malik down with his actions, so outside of being supportive, he shouldn't feel bad for marching on without him.

I stand corrected. You did not say he should "turn his back on him".

You said, "I would prefer MZ to spend his energy being in the corner of players that care about winning and are putting in the work. Mentoring young players with desire, not suspended veterans that haven't produced on or off of the field (Greg Bryant)".

So paraphrasing:

You would rather MZ not spend energy being in Greg Bryant's corner.

You want MZ mentoring young players with desire, not Greg Bryant.

If I did that to my best friend, I would be turning my back on them. He is still a part of this program and a very important variable of the 2016 and 2017 seasons... until he isn't.

Not to speak for wooley but I would think MK would be spending the overwhelming majority of his time with the players that are actually playing in 2015. Hopefully GB is back next season and I would expect that Malik will spend the appropriate amount of time he feels necessary to help keep GB in the fold and on the right track. But, that time will be less and less as the season draws closer I would suspect.

All true TTT. Maybe Wooley didn't mean exactly what he wrote.

I'm sure Malik will spend the appropriate time with those who need it. It's nice to feel you have that type of player leading your program.

I didn't read it that way at all. Greg Bryant screwed up big time. There are(or at least should be) consequences for screwing up that big. One of those consequences just might be that you have to earn the trust of your friends all over again. If Greg Bryant were truly a friend to Malik Zaire; he would encourage Malik to focus on the team, not him.

Bogs,

I can't see ND assisting him in filing a petition and the NCAA would never award a 6th year under these circumstances.

You can't use an academic issue as reason to petition. It has to be season ending injury (or non football related illness / injury from a car accident, etc.) Besides physical injury / illness, having to leave school to care for an ailing family member and or take care of siblings as the result of the death of a parent / guardian is grounds for petition.

I was awarded a 6th year based on knee injury and the deaths of my parents.

.

NDC, a chara,

First, my condolences, even at this late date.

Second, I was musing if with his first redshirt year being due to medical reasons if that was enough for the extension.

It makes perfect sense to me that if one year missed is due to loss of eligibility, the granting of a sixth year would be contrary to the original intent of withdrawing eligibility.

But after all, this is the NCAA, and I would put nothing irrational past them! Sorry, but yes, I am that jaded. Thanks for the verification!

Beir bua agus beannacht,

Bogs

PS. : About this pushing Bryant thing. I bet he has been "pushed" all his life and look how that has worked out. Above and beyond everything, I think this kid needs to sit down, and think some things through. Then he needs to make a couple (or more decisions.)

At this point I must say, that history and common sense are not in his favor; he has to be clear that his way isn't getting him what he really wants. He has to get off of his own ego train, and that is incredibly hard for anyone, let alone someone with these kind of maturity issues, (assuming that is all it is.) So the locus has to be from inside. The outside is only a minor influence, that looks like support for someone that wants to effect changes within themselves. My two cents.

Very true, I get the impression GB isn't the most popular guy on the team. MZ has that "friend of everybody" vibe about him but he must be careful who he shows favour to now that he is the leader of the team

Thank goodness Bryant Sr. is so committed to his son getting a degree.

This is very good news and not for our football team. I hope he returns and has a monster senior year but I really want Greg to learn from all of this and still get his ND degree. He'll be able to reflect on this in a few years and laugh at how young and stupid he was. Let's hope this is a pivot point for him.

Apologies, that came off the wrong way. I just meant that it's great to actively see parents push their kids to see the value in a ND degree. I'm sure there are some parents out there that would say "screw this" and look onto other places (DD).

All the best to GB, but is doesn't it see ironic that Justin Brent is platooned at RB in response to this? Seems like a similar maturity issue is keeping him off the field so far as well.

it'd be hard not to respond on an emotional level. Not gonna rehash how he got "here", but it takes serious discipline to guide a kid in this spot. Glad to see both are on the same page.

I hope GB does an awesome job, and as I've said before of others who've chosen the high road during difficult times...he'll always be Irish to me.
