Let's see how strong Malik's leadership skills are now. He and Bryant are tight so here's to hoping MZ can be a good example and get his friend back on the championship path.

And here's to hoping MZ ain't the "other" one! ......... I kid, I kid.

Why do so many people think Greg Bryant is a problem? Inside the locker room and people think he's a troubled kid. Besides this what else has he done? If BK can deal with Cierre Wood I think he's been able take care of Bryant who up until today hasn't been problem. Plenty of ND players smoke, he's just dumb enough to get caught.

I don't think anyone specifically said that Greg Bryant IS a problem. I speculated that him being a pain in the ass MIGHT be ONE reason why it seems that there is a disparity between his consequences, and those for Rees and Floyd. Another could be that Rees' incident was internal to ND; no NCAA rules were violated. In Floyd's case, DUI is illegal, but alcohol is not. That might have made a difference. And yet another could be that, as someone else pointed out, Rees and Floyd were not easily replaced, whereas Bryant is.

I think Floyd was a matter of timing. He missed the entire spring, no practice or workouts or anything.

I think that's a pretty hefty suspension in its own right. He may not have missed any games, but he missed out on a long period of development with the team.

I see what you are saying now, fair points. Bryant punishment shouldn't be four games just because he's not one of Kelly's guys. Be fair to everyone in this aspect and don't play favorites.

My buddy text me wondering what was going on because he was just drinking at the bar the other night with MZ and GB. He was surprised this came out a day or two later because he said they both were just talking about being excited for season and couldnt wait for camp to get here.

I would imagine if MZ was the other one we would know by now.

I don't think BK has "guys" in the sense that he has a group of favorites.

I do think BK has "problem children," and that he has little-to-no tolerance for any shenanigans with those guys after a first incident.

Plenty of evidence from his days at UC follow what we've seen it terms of his dealings with Bryant and other players.

This could also be a repeated test failure. Like in the NFL, I think the first test is just a stern look and a "don't do that again", and it isn't even part of the public record.

Hard for an outsider like me to look at this suspension as a positive from a mere football perspective. Asking Folston to carry the ball 20+ times a game may be a reach. Maybe the suspension will allow GB to focus more and become the player we all think he can be. Sometimes losing something that is so important to you can have a way of changing you for the better. Let's hope so in this case. I know I will be cheering for him.

greg will be missed. has tons of potential. we all know that.

You all are going to be astonished on how good CJ is going to be. Kelly's praise of him during the spring was 100% correct

I can see why a fan of another team would think this is a bigger issue than what us Irish fans are thinking.

But Bryant, at the most, would be taking about 5 carries away from Folston per game. Folston has turned into a work horse of a running back and would probably be getting 15-20 carries a game anyway. If I had to guess, Bryant's carries will just be additional carries to Prosise or will be an opportunity for Dexter to show people what he's got.

Yeah...maybe I overreact a little when it comes to RBs. Barring any injuries at RB, the Irish will be fine.

limited carries, left and has bounced around the nfl trying to make a team

Exactly. He's now high on the BK dog house list. I don't see how this ends well for him at ND. His best option for his future at this point may be to transfer out.

Why is missing 4 games a big deal to anyone? I just don't understand the hubbub. He's going to miss one meaningful game.

All are meaningful if we want to make the playoffs. ;) I think the 1st three will be challenging with Texas (just because its the first game) and GT (because the triple option with better athletes than Navy) being the toughest.

I don't understand why Greg Bryant is getting a four game suspension for smoking pot. Unless this is second or third failed test. I mean Tommy Rees punches a cop and Floyd gets a DUI and doesn't miss a game.

This definitely NOT a first time offense. He knew what he was risking when he toked up again. Some people just really love their pot, enough to take these risks. It's all on him.

I don't think people think he's a problem in the sense that he's a bad kid. More of a problem in the sense that he's a high maintenance kid who hasn't brought the goods for being such a high maintenance player. I can tell that from the very first game, he's bitches and complains LOUDLY about his lack of touches. Definitely not shy about making his feelings known. Apparently he's gotten better about the public sulking/bitching on the sidelines, but he's been a problem there. And then you have his threatening to transfer (it was absolutely real) which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. And now this.

So it's not that he's a bad kid...it's just that he's been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
