Ha. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw him.

On Hayes, he's all good. A little outspoken and it'll get him in trouble until he learns that he's on BKs rules. But he'll be fine. Enjoy the ride young man.

So there is an update at II from Steve Hare about Ray Marten TE/LB prospect from Poly Prep, same school as Jay Hayes. The part thats interesting is Jay has relayed to Ray that he's moved from 4th string to 2nd string since being on campus. Now, this could be an excited teenager making himself sound bigger than he is to a former teammate or Jay might be showing pretty good so far.

It is great news if Hayes and Cage are already showing they can contribute, it just keeps adding quality depth. Really excited to see what we field this year.

So, I'm reading the SBT NDInsider magazine for the season preview and they have a little Q&A with every 2014 commit. One of the questions is "Toughest school/coach to say no to?" and Hayes says "UCONN head coach Bob Diaco. He's a heck of a recruiter, a very charismatic guy, and a great coach."

So, does this mean Diaco was trying to poach some guys after he left for UCONN? Kind of a dick move.

Or he committed to Notre Dame because Coach Diaco was very persuasive?

i'd do the same thing if i was diaco. you gotta cover your own rear and i would imagine that happens quite often in the business of recruiting.

It's one thing to recruit head to head over an uncommitted kid. I think it's pretty dick move to try and steal recruits weeks before NSD from ND/Kelly. Maybe that's not what Hayes meant by the quote, but just my opinion.

Remember that Hayes committed to Notre Dame BECAUSE of Bob Diaco. Diaco had convinced Hayes he was a perfect fit at the school before having ever even visited.

Is this preview mag free? And does anyone have a link?

True. Pretty funny that Diaco was such a poor recruiter overall (lack of effort) but he was able to lock this up very early for a kid that would've garnered more attention.

Nah its the South Bend Tribune NDInsider one, I think cost $10. Pretty good read.

But that's the entirety of the quote.

Some pretty good Q&A stuff in there. I forgot Brent committed to ND after he had a one-on-one meeting with Urban on a visit to OSU just days after his ND visit and meeting with Kelly.

I read it as he is saying Diaco is hard to say no too but he said UCONN coach because that is where Diaco is at the time of the Q&A.

Agree. He was simply talking about when he was being recruited.

Only recruit I have ever heard say a nice thing about Diaco.

Diaco lost us a hell of a lot more recruiting battles then he won

9. Jay Hayes, DT, Notre Dame – Notre Dame is playing a lot of freshmen right now on defense and though they lost to Louisville on Saturday, they got some encouraging play out of Hayes. On the day, the freshman played 36 snaps with one tackle and a QB pressure but he was disruptive all game. In Hayes, Brian Kelly noted that "we've got a guy that played really hard, played physical and never was overmatched out there."

My hunch is Elston is gone to CMU.

jay hayes getting emotional on twitter tonight. He actually tweeted he hated this school. He of course deleted it..the guys that don't want truly be here, might as well not waste your time if you can't appreciate what's in front of you.

WTF? I doubt that was him. Since the day he walked on campus, he's been quite vocal about how much he loved ND and the staff, teammates, student body. It'd be concerning if he actually meant it, but I don't see it.

Just recently posted that "he can't wait to graduate from ND. I just want to win a national championship and leave. Straight up." Seems like he's in it for the long haul and does want to win and graduate, but I'm not too optimistic about the way that tweet was worded. There's definitely something stressing him out.

Especially when twitter is so secure! AND, especially since it a young man, still a teenager; not like we ever said or wrote anything in the heat of the moment when we were that age! Is it?
