And I will call you out as I see fit.

See... this is your deal. What thrill do you get out of wriling everyone up like this? If your schtick wasn't framed around christianity, a mod would have stepped in and put you on a break. What you are doing is trolling, and doing so in cowardly way. One where you hide behind your religious convictions.

Wooly, the only problems we have ever had with negative reps are the nasty messages people like to put them. We have never had to tell someone to just stop using the button as much, so no, the religious thing doesn't matter.

As well, if you're going to call him out, you better do it in the right way otherwise we will have more problems.

Because I will rep or reduce rep? Yup, a cowardly Christian for neg repping something of distaste to my God.

Nope. Cowardly because you run around the site looking for people posting anything that you deam unchristian and neg rep them without every responding until now.

Feel free to keep using neg reps as you see fit. I'm personally offended by every post you make, so I will neg rep you back. But if you want to know why, you wont have to worry about someone making a thread. I'll talk directly to you about it. I wont hide until I feel safe that mods will protect me.

You take IE too seriously whereas I don't.

I'm not your homie.

How about we just get rid of the rep system altogether? What does it really do, other than stroke people's egos?

This is a good idea. I've never seen so many panties get so seriously bunched.

Maybe you can just send a private message and explain your position to the poster that may have offended you. I really didn't care that you neg repped me but I was a bit confused, if I'm being honest. If you would have PMed me instead, I would have had a better understanding of your position and probably modified or deleted my comment.

I have posted before that I personally do not care for the phrase. With that, I won't negative rep someone who does. Christian values are set on being an example and not being divisive. This thread has become divisive if nothing else.

Maybe negative repping someone for using it sends the signal that one is judging the person. While that is probably not true, and instead of allowing that to be assumed, maybe a PM explaining why the phrase offends you would be more appropriate. I would think most posters out here would respect that - like Wild Bill just posted - and apologize and attempt, with good intentions, to try and refrain from using the phrase in the future. If not, then one has done the "Christian" thing and should thank them for their time and move on. Just my opinion... and probably my last one in this thread.

I said it before in another thread, but it was deleted.. I think there are people out there more worried about reputation instead of character.

Just to be perfectly clear... I was not only talking about the people who have received negative reps and are upset about it.

Yet you neg rep people? Is that not taking things seriously? What is the purpose of the neg rep then if you are not seriously involved? I am trying to understand.

The same as liking something on facebook. I don't go all out for likes, and maybe he doesn't either. It just seems that he is focused on his reputation to a foolhardy degree.

Let's not make excuses, let's look for answers! Koon has always wanted to be a mod. Let's make him the "Rep Mod". He can be in charge of monitoring negative repping and be the moderator between disputes. He can also send messages to posters when their posts gets deleted. No other privileges though. The power would go to his head.

To be clear, I only want to be a mod so I can un-ban Pat. Immediately following that, I'd go back to being a member so I could look myself in the mirror.

I still believe Brick should be a mod. He's got more game than anyone on this site and is the only one with the balls to show his face and not hide behind an avatar.

That's not a moderator power. Only The Phammer can un-ban. A mod can kiss the hem of his cloak in supplication on a banned poster's behalf but the unhammer rests with The Phammer.

You mean that's not ACamp's real face? No way!

Yet you go out of your way to make sure people know you are displeased by neg repping yet do not provide any response. Surely you realize this is at a minimum aggravating to some posters? Then you get upset when people call you out on it.

And I don't see the similarity to liking something on facebook. You can't dislike something on facebook without posting to that page and typing in a negative response. The common theme with you is that you typically neg rep without providing any response.

Does it make you feel better to do this? What do you personally get out of neg repping posters constantly?

I don't negative rep people all day. In fact, I give out much more positive reps than negative.

I am upset? You upset? We upset.

I am not upset really. I forgive people who 'call me out.'

I am not upset I am trying to understand the purpose of your neg reps. The social convention here seems to be that most posters typically only give out neg reps for egregious or trollish behaviors. I personally give reps out to promote good posting behavior and I dont even think I have ever even issued a neg rep to any other member. So I dont understand the need to neg rep anyone really. Further recieving reps in my opinion is a great way to enhance the experience here at IE and for many regulars here, the experience in this community IS important. Not the reps themselves but the experience that is associated with posting. Some may consider it a message board but to others it is a great place to get, info, banter and discuss some things with diverse people. For example when I get positive reps from posters I respect, it does mean something to me. I might be alone in this but I dont think so. So its not hard to understand that if I were to recieve a neg rep it might be worth taking note of and reflecting on the reason for the neg rep. It is also nit hard to understand that your neg rep behavior might upset people because it is dissonant of the typical social convention.

This is not reddit with upvotes and downvotes. This is not a facebook page. This is a community with thousands of members with a pretty well defined "culture."

I am not a fan of some of the language that is used on IE.

The one thing I would suggest to others that have a problem with the language is that as Christians we are to hold each other accountable for how we act but, we are not to hold those that are not Christians to the same standards that we hold believers.

I remember a few years back if one would use foul language here they would be banned. It was a place where one could have their child walk up to the computer and not see bad stuff. I am not a grinch, just ask that we use language that would be said in front of grandma's.
