Why don't you block us? Why is it necessary to follow our posts looking for posts to neg rep?

It's a heck of a lot easier for you to ignore us than for us to ignore you... since after all... you are the one instigating the argument.

I don't even read every post you make.

Admiral--

I personally don't care who you neg rep or positive rep. But to say you "aren't looking for a fight" when you know: (a) that people have posted numerous messages on your profile page expressing confusion or frustration and (b) that neg repping is viewed by the vast majority of the board as a way to punish blatant trolls and completely absurd posts rather than something that is freely used....doesn't jive.

I would suggest you place posters on ignore, avoid repping at all, or consider leaving the board. Because neg repping so much is, by definition, antagonistic.

I appreciate your input.

I still can't believe that all of this started from the seemingly benign "Post pictures of your dog(s)" thread!

It didn't. It started because I started a thread asking what's up with the Admiral and all of his negative repping of posters.

On a side not, the thread got closed and now Wooly is reaping the vBuck benefits.

Why does the neg rep make you feel harassed?

If he's leaving them because he disagrees with what you said, how is that any different than the reps you receive when people like what you've said?

In either case, it's someone stating their feelings on your post. Why worry so much about one poster's feelings towards what you're saying?

I could say the same about your post. It's our opinion that we don't want someone following us around negging us every time we say "god damn". Just like we could ignore his reps, you could ignore this thread.

BTW........Out of common courtesy, if a mod closes a thread or deletes a post, I think it would be appropriate for the mod to let the poster know why they did it.

That would be nice. Probably a lot of work, but nice.

I could ignore this thread, that's true. But the difference is that I'm trying to feel things out and actually have a conversation.

I'm not just simply showing my approval/disapproval, which is what the rep system is designed for.

As you know, I'm the OP, but I wasn't calling him out. After I saw the neg rep, I went to his page and saw quite a few people had questioned his neg repping of them. I was simply asking others if they knew what was going on?

If I was calling him out, you would have known it!!! lol

When a post is deleted the mod does put in an explanation usually like OT or something of that nature. Anything more, like Dshans pointed out, would be very time consuming. Especially when sometimes its deleting 10+ posts.

Right, true, especially the bolded parts.

Some posters in this thread have contended that repping is merely expressing disapproval or approval of a post, like a like/dislike or thumbs-up/thumbs-down function. The thing is, giving reps isn't just that ... reps, whether negative or positive, have an effect on a poster's numerical reputation rating. So a reasonable interpretation of a neg rep is to think not that the neg repper thinks your post is bad but that the neg repper thinks, based on a particular post, YOU are a bad poster and a bad member of this site such that your reputation rating should suffer.

So what, many of you say. Who cares. Your reputation rating on this site is like "Schrute bucks." It's meaningless in the big scheme of things. Of course that is true, and I agree that no one should get bent out of shape over the occasional neg rep. But at the same time, if you spend a fair amount of time on this site discussing ND football, and you interpret neg reps as an expression not of disapproval of your post but of you as a poster--as I have argued it is perfectly reasonable to do--I can see being offended or insulted about neg reps. I will not say that people shouldn't care about them at all, as some people are arguing. You could reasonably believe that a neg rep is inherently personal.

Let's not make excuses, let's look for answers! Koon has always wanted to be a mod. Let's make him the "Rep Mod". He can be in charge of monitoring negative repping and be the moderator between disputes. He can also send messages to posters when their posts gets deleted. No other privileges though. The power would go to his head.

Is one rep really intended to show one's approval or disapproval on the overall worthiness of the individual poster? If so, I have really been using it wrong as I usually award people for making a salient, original thought or an absurdly funny remark. In either case, it is based on one post and one post only.

If someone said something positive about FSU, and it was their opinion, they shouldn't be neg repped for it. Same concept. The reality is that he is going around trying to pressure the rest of the board to change to fit his values.

So what do you want done about it, wooly?

Almost certainly not. But my point was not really about how it was intended by the repper ... it was about how the person receiving the reps might naturally interpret it or feel about it, considering that it affects a numerical reputation rating.

What? I wasn't making excuses. When Mods delete posts there is a section that says reason. Usually the reason isn't a paragraph or even a sentence because it doesn't need to be.

Can anyone other than mods see the reason? Because I know that I have had posts deleted before, and I didn't even know it until someone else asked me why I took it down.

I'm not your homie.

How about we just get rid of the rep system altogether? What does it really do, other than stroke people's egos?

So much anger from you. What got your panties in such a bunch?

Is hombre, cool?

Neg.

Just trying to insert a little humor into the thread. Another failed attempt on my part, much like in the Question About a Girl thread where I got the neg rep.
