Furthermore, you can't blame his neg repping for someone else's inability to use the proper channel for their frustration.

What exactly is the "proper channel" for their frustration? I mean, you can't address it in the thread, none of the mods see it as an actionable offense and I frankly don't see any recourse.

Again... that is if it bothers someone, which obviously his negs bother some people.

How about you PM the person who sent the neg rep and ask them why? Something along the lines of, "Hey, I just got a neg rep from you, but there was no comment with it. Did you really mean to neg rep me, or did you mean to pos rep me, and just hit the wrong button?"

I've been neg repped for the dumbest of things. The all time great was the 'injury thread', where I posted 'Cam McDaniel - bruised ego - day to day' after he went through the RB machine backwards.

It was funny, but I didn't care to hear an explanation from the clown that gets upset by something like that, lol.

As long as you know you're not doing something wrong, IMO it's best to chalk it up as the other poster being _____, have a laugh about it, and move on.

How about you PM the person who sent the neg rep and ask them why? Something along the lines of, "Hey, I just got a neg rep from you, but there was no comment with it. Did you really mean to neg rep me, or did you mean to pos rep me, and just hit the wrong button?"

Everybody that has been neg repped by him (and its a lot of people) have tried to pm him, message him on his page, and even ask him in the threads. But nothing garnishes a response. He simply ignores any recourse and offers no explanation.

Hence... this thread.

I've lost about half of my rep points/power then. My bar is almost always half 'NA'.

I don't think you lose the rep. You only lose the ability to read the original comment, since it's been deleted. Thus the "NA" instead of the usual comment link.

Not a bad idea, but (1) I doubt vBulletin supports such functionality; (2) even if it does, it probably wouldn't get used much; and (3) mods already have the ability to edit or delete rep comments, so the simple work-around is to PM a mod.

That implies that there is such a thing as "propriety of neg reps." Is there a rule other than "I feel like neg repping you"? I don't see reps as anything more than Like/Dislike or Upvote/Downvote.

The community moderates itself to a large extent through basic social dynamics present in any group. You guys have a big impact on the tenor of the board by choosing which topics to discuss, which posts get praised, when to neg rep, etc. So I'm not talking about "propriety" in a legalistic sense, but in the sense of community norms.
