Besides, if you get it now you'll be close to over it by Saturday. Just give them practice off and lots of nyquil.

Our trainers always had us drink mad amounts of pedialite. Tastes like shit but it is so full of good things that any virus is flushed within a day.

I can tell you with confidence pedialite does nothing with the virus. If you have diarrhea or vomiting it keeps you euvolemic and your lytes balanced though.

OK so the virus is going to do what is going to do unless you take antibiotic? And the best thing you can do is keep others levels normal?

I've just never fought things off so fast in my life than when we would hammer that stuff.

The virus is going to do what it is going to do no matter what you do. Antibiotics fight bacterial infections, not viruses. For viruses like the cold and flu, all you can do is treat symptoms and let your body fight the virus off, which it will do in due time.

Not sure if posted, but Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman (both now at Fox Sports) each picked us to win. Neither has been that high on the Irish all year, so probably a good sign. Mandel says 20-16 and Feldman says 20-13.

Also, Phil Steele picked us to win 23-20.

Seems like most of the talking heads on TV/Radio are taking Stanford, while the journalists are going ND.

I think it was Murtaugh of OFD who said it ... when the season started, I expected that this game would probably be a loss. Now, I'll be surprised if we don't win.

True, we have possibly not yet played a team that will go to a bowl game, so putting too much stock in us based on our 4-0 start is probably a mistake. But I just love the way we have played this year, for the most part.

ND -20
Stanford -13

If you have influenza and take tamiflu in the first 48 hours it shortens disease course by 1-2 days.

I can handle broken bones and I've stitched and crazy glued my own wounds, but when I get the flu I swear I'm gonna die and nobodies ever had it worse.

Trust the journalists. They actually watch and understand the games. That's what I'm telling myself this week, anyway.

Yep. This is how I feel most weeks. Plus I love when the ESPN guys pick against us for the off-chance it gets back to the team as bulletin-board material.

The only ESPN guy who I put any stake in is Herbstreit.

I'm torn on this game. Part of me think it'll be a low scoring, defensive battle. Another part of me has this gut feeling it'll be like the '12 OU game where ND was the underdog and came out and rolled them.

If Stanford plays like they did against USC or WA, and ND keeps the turnovers way down, this game has potential to get ugly for Stanford. I don't think it's likely, but definitely a possibility. Golson is the X-factor for this game. #HeismanMoment

I haven't seen anything about the flu getting to the team besides here. But per Jarron's twitter, he was in class yesterday so he can't be that sick IMO.

ND didn't roll Stanford, that was a dangerously close game until about 5-8 mins remaining in the 4th, then we put the dagger in.

My wife has just gone 12 hrs with a pitocin drip and the stubborn little guy still doesn't want to come out. She tried to go natural but finally gave in on account of exhaustion.

I say all of this because the ND football team owes me a laid back Saturday where they straight-up curb stomp Stanford.

James and I need to celebrate a Notre Dame victory tomorrow! Go Irish!

Good luck man. Take care of your wife, she sounds like a warrior.

Koon's keys to the game:

- Field position. If we can return it to the 35 yard line every kickoff, I'll be a happy man. Their kicker cannot reach the endzone as far as I know. Hopefully Brindza brings the boom. No reason to expect him not to.

- Scoring TDS. But if not, making field goals. There's going to be a lot of FGs kicked IMO. Probably 3 for each team.

- Turnovers. Duh.

- Kelly rolling out Golson. Haven't had a roll out since the first game when he threw the bomb to CJ. Why not? Golson's going to be pressured, so let him be on the run in a natural play. Worst case scenario on a roll out? Throw it out of bounds.

- Not letting Hogan run for 1st downs on 3rd down.

- I think Redfield and Shummate are going to make a game changing play in this game. Big hit or interception.

- Being able to run on 3rd and 1-2.

- Crowd noise. We need to bring it!

- ND 23, Stanford 17.

The Irish's ability to gain positive yards on first down. Can't play behind the chains against a good defense. That's my biggest key to the game. Along with most everything else you mentioned.

Agreed. But you could say that Stanford has to do the same thing. I don't think Stanford's offense is good enough or consistent enough to convert those all game long.

I would also add weather as one of the keys to the game. It looks like it's gonna be wet all game long. I expect both teams to get some plays to go their way thanks to the weather.

Agree. If the Irish can control the point of attack on defense, it goes a long way in helping BVG being able to utilize his defensive packages better. I think the Irish can get it done tomorrow.

Koon's key to the game.... Must score touchdowns and/or field goals.

Perceptive analysis...

Check out the spread for the ND game.

Detroit News college football picks: Week 6

Those 4 have an outstanding record picking games. The most successful is +6 in 75 picks, 40-34-1. The next most prodigious picker is +5. There's one at an even .500. And then there's Wojo at -22 for a 26-48-1 record. He's one game above a 33% success rate.

The best part is their Best Pick rate. Collectively they are 5-15 with only one of them getting more than one of their Best Picks right.
