What will your 2014 game day ritual look like?

If I don't attend the game a buddy and I will probably watch 75% of the games at Chili's, the bartender is a cool guy and turns the sound on for us, it's between both of our places. The other 25% of the time at my buddies place. I don't like to drink during the game, I like to remember what happens. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I don't know why but i don't normally wear an ND shirt.

What does your ritual look like?

I always DVR the game and start about 1 hour late. That way I can skip the commercials for most of the game. I typically catch up to live around the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Drives some people nuts. But, hey, its what I like.

ill be getting up and studying as much as i can before kickoff, may have to get up super early and get my studying in by 10 so i can watch gameday(the only espn product i enjoy)

I used to head to an irish pub for every game with my family, but that was getting a lil expensive, so its usually parents coming to my house or I'm going to theirs. My dad and i are the big fans, my fiance and my mom just try to understand the craziness. lol.

And I've got to be sporting my latest ND gear, cant wear the same outfit twice in a row either. for most games i rep the coaches polo, but i have some dri-fits and regular tees as well.

Haven't gotten any of the new under armour stuff though. but i probably will soon.

I usually watch at home since the ND club of Dallas does their game watches in a different city (still have no idea why). I always wear the shirt and make sure to have polished off at least 1 beer before kick off (superstition from freshman year that doesn't really work, but hey TRADITION). By about the 2nd quarter, my wife and I are usually completely ignoring each other and focused on the game (she's a crazed alum too).

After the game, celebration beers or sad/angry beers.

oh yeah my dad and i used to have a pregame Guinness; for some reason we stopped doing it at the beginning of the 2012 season. needless to say we don't have pregame Guinnesses anymore.

Same ritual every Saturday for years:

1) Wake up at 8, and eat breakfast (always same meal)
-1 pound of fried bacon
-6 scrambled eggs with cheese
-2 pieces of toast
-orange juice
*This is all I eat the whole day

2. Watch ESPN/Gameday (I nap during this time as the season goes on, but am too excited the first few weeks)

3. Drink a sugar free Monster, explain to wife I ate all the bacon because she took too long to wake up

4. Start watching first slate of games and open first beer (usually around noon)

5. Start to get antsy around 1, and spend a few minutes deciding which shirt/jersey/hoodie will be the "lucky" one for today

6. Head to bar for game, turn off phone while watching game, and drink heavily

*The next part of the day is solely dependent on the outcome of the game

7. Continue drinking heavily in celebration or misery

8. Win=get home at a reasonable time and have functionality for whatever the evening plans are

Loss= get home later than promised, get yelled at, and am a pouting drunken mess for whatever the evening plans are

9. When home for good, depending on how much I've imbibed, fire up YouTube on the TV and watch old game highlight or PTHF videos.

10. Go to bed in the wee hours of the morning

*My Sunday ritual for the Bears is lay around on the couch hungover from Saturday and sleep half the game.....

I could not even imagine the "movement" on Sun with a breakfast like that in the a.m.
Mine changes from week to week with the four kids. This week I am off Tue afternoon and off to my sons 9-10 year old football practice. After that I will take all helmets and paint them chrome in a drunking blur until I go back to work on the 2nd. Also Fri night Plant City comes up from Tampa to play our local high school team. Going to be great week! GO IRISH!!!!

Wake up and be productive until pre-game comes on. Watch until the end. If we win, I try to enjoy for a bit before going back to projects. If we lose, I remind myself that my life is ultimately unaffected and it's one of the cruel tricks of my brain's circuitry that I feel bad/negative/sad/defeated when ND loses, then I go back to doing a project.

Right now working on building a toolbox and some sawhorses and my wife and I are re-finishing a dresser before our first son arrives in Sept.

this week I get off at 4 friday and make the 3 hourish trek to Columbia city. then drive the rest of the way to campus early Saturday morning. Grab some new under armour gear at any shop other than hammes due to it being a nightmare on gameday, a couple smithwicks and some nelsons prior to kick off. Grab my program INSIDE the stadium (its just un-American to me to ever buy a program outside any stadium. my own little quirk) after the game hit brunos for some pizza.

North Carolina week we are going up on Thursday and doing the whole tour. legends, BK radio show, trumpets, pep rally, etc.

when I am not at the games its usually up by 9 grab a workout then catch the end of gameday and watch the nooner games. my family always gets together for games and has a massive spread of food. with a win drink and enjoy every last piece of college football including Hawaii late nighter. with a loss drink myself to sleep and try to watch anything but football.

I don't have too big of a ritual. I have the game on, got my laptop by me, I chat on IE, and if the Minnesota-Duluth game is on at the same time, I stream it. I wear my ND jersey, but that's it.

One thing I love about living out west is that I don't have to wait as long as most to watch the game. The gf is OSU alum and those games start at 9:30 am and are directly followed by the ND game at 12:30.

I drink early and often.

My 2 year old and I will have the shirt on. My 8 month old will have an ND shirt on as well. I'll be playing ND music in the am and my boys will watch the Notre Dame Baby Irish dvd. I pray I can watch the game without them freaking out. Can't wait. Go Irish!

Ha, usually have the same exact ritual on game day except we're usually leaving the hotel by like...7am to get a good spot in the parking lot in front of Legends. I don't typically drink beer, so if I'm drinking then it's Vodka around noon and then I'm in good shape through the 3rd quarter.

I always wear some type of ND gear: pants or a shirt or a hat.

My wife surprised me with this for game days:

Sleep in. Try to catch Game Day. Grab a bite to eat. Head to campus about two hours before gametime. Swing by and chat with Legend for a minute before heading into the stadium. Don't tailgate and don't care for being around the crowd on the Quad. Grab a coke and watch the show. Leaving the stadium try to catch up on the other game happenings from the then too drunk tailgaters. Head home telling myself it is much easier watching the game at home in my recliner. Pretty basic.

I'll wake up just in time to turn on Gameday and piss and moan groggily at Desmond Howard and David Pollack.

I'll get some breakfast while it's on and not really pay attention until celebrity picker, game picks, and head gear time (unless there's an ND feature, in which case I watch the whole show).

Then two things happen:

I get to watch the noon games

or

My fiance wants to get some shit done before she loses me for the day, so I miss the noon games I REALLY wanted to see.

If I get to see the early games that I REALLY want to see, I get super antsy about ND anyway and ignore the games I REALLY wanted to see. I fire up the PS3 and play my ND dynasty. It makes me feel "in control" of the Irish, since the real-life waiting for 3:30 is out of my hands.

Once 3:30 hits, I'll be on my couch or on my buddy's patio drinking beers and freaking out for the next four hours.

If it's a night game, I'll get the fire pit fired up, turn on the outside speakers, and watch the game through the sliding door by the fire.

If I'm at work, I apologize to my co-workers that I won't be much use to them during game time, but I'll make it up by shouldering the workload after the clock runs down. If I'm off, I usually watch the game at home with a spread of food and booze. I'll scream and yell at the TV while my wife shuts herself in the bedroom, puts on her headphones, and wonders who this crazy person is that she lives with.

Early in the season... get up and watch Gameday to see who's talkin' shit and hope Desmond fails so bad that the Football Gods understand how much better Rocket would be at doing DH's job.

Make a run over to McD's for 2 Sausage MCMuffins, a hash brown and a large Coke. ($4.32 w/ tax in Arizona)

Then 1 hour and 5 minutes before game time, head over to the Scottsdale Plaza Resort to catch the game with the ND Club of Phoenix. Gotta be there an hour before kick off or someone who doesn't normally attend game watches might think it's ok to sit at my table and that would be an epic disaster as far as the order of the universe is concerned.

I will flip a coin to see what shirt and hat I wear. Usually start a season off with my 1977 Green Machine National Championship t shirt as it has the highest winning percentage of any in my inventory but as soon as ND loses... it's on to my Montana jersey. After that if necessary... it's back to the coin flip.

As far as drinks. Buckets of Coors Light. That way I can drink as many as I need without ever getting into trouble.

Afterwards, chat with the group members, complain about play calling and players who are getting (or not getting) clock then shut it down for the night because the NFL is at 10am in AZ till Day Light Savings expires and Bears fans are everywhere in AZ which leads to another day of festivities that are not as high brow as Saturday afternoons with the ND set.

.

I miss that the most. If Hawaii has a home game, you literally have games on from 8AM until midnight.

Then read II at the minor meltdown going down over there
Come up with a decent thread to get everyone's blood pressure up
Watch Game day or something else on TV
Usually around noon I start pacing like a crazy ass
I have to be by myself while I watch the games and I refuse to watch them anywhere other then my basement. I like the quiet, usually because I am screaming. Girlfriend usually leaves for the games because she can't put up with me. I don't know about you guys but I usually can't sit down.
Then after we win I am usually in a great mood and start drinking
When we lose, I usually just sit on my ass and cry and pout like a child. ND losing games honestly drives me nuts.
Then I will finally eat something, I get to nervous before games so I really don't eat.

Then at the end of the night I hear the same damn response "It's just a football game" Usually leading me telling my girlfriend fuck off.

Same as every year for me I start getting nervous about an hour before the games hoping and praying this will be our year. Then I watch the games completely alone. I stand during the game and sit on the edge of the couch during commercials. My wife goes in her studio to work and only comes out at halftime and after the game. If we win I have a feeling of relief/enjoyment, if we lose I'm a miserable bastard for the night and sit and try to convince myself it's just a game, there's nothing i can do, and it doesn't affect me personally but to no avail. Although the loss to Bama did crush me to the point it put things into perspective last year I'm staring to feel i'll be back to my old self this year. haha

Sounds a lot like my game day. I make my wife wear my ND Fleece jacket. No joking, ND has won every game the last two years when she wore it all game day. The days she tricked me they have lost.
