Well, reading this whole dammed thing was a waste of time --- many neurons died in the process. Lack of imagination on IE always surprises me. I can think of many scenarios where no one except the "guilty parties" knew about this [they sure as hell had enough reason to keep quiet], and then someone pisses off the girl and she sh!ts on everyone's parade. Coach, parents, and athletes all get taken "with their pants down."

As to how we'd do if the Fab Four weren't available: I wrote out three deeps for every position on Defense and they were full of outstanding athletes. Our DLine was always going to be green, and we were/are going to rotate large numbers of people there. Ishaq hasn't proven anything to me yet, so my heart did not skip a beat on hearing his name --- it got sadder for him and the others, but not the team.

Russell is who hurts. He's our ZMart this season --- an Eraser. He plus Riggs gave us something that Van Gorder could build all manner of trickery around. If he's "gone", we're a LOT more vanilla. Daniels? I'm the unpopular IE guy on this. Give me Robinson, Brown, Fuller, Brent, plus Koyack and Smythe, and Luatua or Bryant coming out of a weird slot, and Kelly/Golson can beat you up proper.

But Russell would REALLY hurt... no matter how good Luke is.

You're not alone as I agree with you.

From: Notre Dame investigates academic fraud, removes four players

Notre Dame has removed four likely starters from its football team in the midst of an investigation into academic fraud, a person with knowledge of the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly told USA TODAY Sports.

The players are receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive back KeiVarae Russell, defensive lineman Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore, the person said. It is unclear if their removal is permanent or whether they might be able to return to the team.

It also is unclear if the investigation is limited to football.

It's quite possible that the four are just being held out of football activities until the investigation is completed....

I'm waiting for the 2015 offseason in which a police investigation reveals the entire team is a Satanic cult that sacrifices newborns.

Haha that is terribly hilarious. It's like the team is on a mission to one up itself every year in sabotaging the potential of the upcoming season. I understand every team loses players for whatever reason during the offseason but no school/team seems to be better then ND at shooting itself in the foot.

Agreed man. Sounds like Atkinson has been having good practices as of late, maybe we'll come in and be able to replace KR. I'm really excited to see Brent do big things this season. Luatua looks like a beast out there, hyped to see him in action. Don't forget we have Carlisle in the slot too.

There are people saying that it could be as bad as the North Carolina scandal. I am worried.

At this point, I am hoping the delay in response from ND is the investigation, and not contract negotiations with our coach.

I believe Tom Hanks and Martin Sheen will be covering that story as a pair of misfit no-nonsense cops in season three of True Detective.

Has anyone checked the student directory?

Wasn't Ishaq's recruitment the genesis of that joke? lol.

My buddy and I walked into town earlier today and grabbed some food at a local restaurant/diner type of deal, waitress rocking an ND football hat and I complemented her on it to which she said "can't wait" and I thought to myself holy shit neither can I, signed the check with a healthy tip and a "beat rice" meanwhile my phone was dead.. Had no idea any of this was going on. Woof.

Not "people". A single anonymous source told that to the SBT's Eric Hansen. Stewart Mandel (very unhelpfully) plucked that comment out of Hansen's article and retweeted it. No one else has reported anything similar.

I wouldn't worry about it. Academic fraud is pretty obviously not endemic at ND. Wouldn't make any sense to unilaterally suspend Golson for the 2013 season if it were.

At this point, I am hoping the delay in response from ND is the investigation, and not contract negotiations with our coach.

When the news first "broke" (and really, this is just one big rumor mill) Ishaq, KVR, Daniels and Moore were getting kicked off the team at 3pm EST today. Since then, Joe Schad has reported that the four of them have simply been suspended from the program while ND investigates alleged academic fraud. So it's very likely that the delayed response is the result of an on-going investigation, and not anything more serious.
