With a daily dose of this kind of shat...I can understand why a college coach would opt for the NFL. They work so hard and spend so much time at recruiting and then this. With you TT Tommy...early signing period!

Only way I would be for an early signing period is if recruits could take official visits during their junior year.

Probably because they are all too busy laughing at our fans.

I really can't believe that some of you who follow recruiting closely would be so gullible as to believe Hopkins is doing something shady or illegal.

Sometimes I think you hate all of us who don't follow recruiting night and day and/or don't share your journalistic opinions.

I didn't want to say it because I've been emo enough in this thread, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a correlation between BK's time at ND and Barnett signing with ND.

He's the type of QB a coach prays for. EE, perfect measurables, extreme work ethic, great personality, coachable.

All seems true for Malik, but I just think Barnett is on another level.

Even if Barnett stays on board ND should keep actively recruiting QB's and accept a commitment if any suitable one is willing

If he decommits I really hope he gives it time and doesn't go straight to Oregon.

Seeing our offense at full capacity this year with experience and mobility at QB for the first time ever in the Kelly era, it's going to be a lot more like Oregon's than he knows.

He'd be giving up so much to gain literally nothing as far as 'fit' goes.

If he does decommit I hope he does it immediately. More time for us to figure out a backup plan because this staff never seems to have one until shit hits the fan.

If he decommits and remains uncommitted, don't you think the staff would already be working on a plan B either way?

But if he remains uncommitted, we'd still have a shot with him. If he commits to Oregon, sounds like he's shutting it down.

Is a QB an absolute must this cycle?

I wouldn't think so, but with the crop of QB talent this year, it'd be pretty bad to not pick one up. Missing on the QB this year may help with '16, but it'd just make the need all the more pressing to land an elite prospect.

While Barnett would be a nice get, it's not going to ruin my day if he decommits. I will be watching ND every Saturday with or without Barnett. I will be supporting the players who want to be here, Barnett included if he wants to play football and earn his degree in South Bend. Those who choose to go elsewhere are irrelevant. I'm perfectly happy with Golson, Zaire, and Kizer taking snaps.

I don't expect him to decommit and remain uncommitted. I would expect him to commit to Oregon.

Either way, he sounded like he was shutting it down when he committed to us, so I don't believe we will ever be truly out of it.

I think it more likely that Oregon's sales pitch went something like this:

"If you go to ND, you will be spending a TON of your time doing homework for classes that are not going to mean a thing to you, once you get out. What does an NFL QB need to know about Post-WWII literature in Russia, anyway? Come to Oregon, where our professors have a better understanding of how much time it takes to prepare for an NFL career, and their grading policies support that. And............. we have hotter cheerleaders and great pot!"

Cynical comment about homework and hot cheerleaders, but why would anyone want to go to Oregon and pass on an opportunity to read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich(Solzhenitsyn)? Anyway, of Oregon's four commits, only scatback Taj Griffin will be attending this week's Rivals Challenge. 2015 quarterbacks in attendance - Barnett, Francois, White, and Wimbush(Eason and the rest are underclassmen).

I say offer Tommy Stevens out of Indianapolis. Poor man's Barnett - love his highlights. That's if we don't hold onto Barnett or get any traction with the kids committed to other programs.

I didn't say that I agreed with the sentiment, just that that was probably a big part of the pitch that they used. Let's be honest here..... most of the top talent in High School football is looking for the best opportunity to position themselves for the NFL, NOT for the opportunity to "guarantee" their success after football.

Huh? You mean he's looking at Oregon because he's worried Kelly might leave?
Wow does this "will Kelly leave and what does it mean for recruiting" topic grow tiresome. Also any recruit who's getting any sort of good advice (and I'd think Barnett is) has to realize that no coach has more than three years of job security anymore.

Not to mention that Oregon's Coach Kelly actually left, and they weren't exactly the same unstoppable force this past year as some of their better years.

I get the appeal of their offense to a QB like Blake. I think ND offers more though, and I hope he sticks.

You want one every year so you don't wind up in situations like we've had the last few, starting guys we probably shouldn't be. That's beauty of Barnett, too. He gives us a pipeline of four straight talented QBs who fit very well in our system. Even if, (worst case), Zaire transferred and Kizer didn't pan out, he could have stepped in in '16.

No. I'm saying if I were BK, I'd be more likely to stay put with an A+ QB like Barnett for the next 4 years.

I read A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich in high school.

I don't think it's wise for any college football coach to hedge his career on one recruit.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion, but it's a lot harder to leave an Andrew Luck type where you know you have a legit chance at the playoffs and title every year.

I'm not saying it'll make a difference, but I guarantee you BK would be happier at ND or anywhere else with a legitimately elite QB locked up. That's the funnest position for him to coach I'd bet and I don't think that's going out on a limb to say.

That's what I was thinking. Who is the last Oregon QB who has made an NFL team, let alone become a consistent starter?

I honestly have no idea if Oregon has produced a starter, but we aren't exactly on fire in that department lately. BQ and Clausen both flamed out rather quickly.

Well I see our emotions are a little more in check than last night! lol

Given that his parents are pro ND, I still like our chances. They will listen to why he wants to go to OU, then they will
1. Tell him how much more a degree from ND means.
2. Tell him that playing in the NFL isn't a certainty.
3. Remind him on what attracted him to commit in the first place.
4. Make sure BK gets an opportunity to reply back to all of the positives and negatives OU sold him before he reaffirms or de-commits.

Does anyone know if BK can do an in-home at this time?
