"Injuries, transfers, and the NFL will wreck this projection"

How can we all agree that missing out on a stud like Clark isn't a huge deal because of ND's great TE depth, but not take the same approach to Eason (whom ND hasn't even missed out on)? Put me on the record as saying I want Eason's commitment, I guess I'm just preemptively talking people off the edge should he decide to not be Irish.

2013: Zaire :s::s::s::s: .9268 #5 DQB
2014: Kizer :s::s::s::s: .9073 #12 PQB
2015: Barnett :s::s::s::s: .9628 #3 PQB

2016: Eason? :s::s::s::s::s: .9984 #1 PQB

Yep, he's a stud, but the other guys aren't slouches.

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with you about our depth. We'll be fine without Eason and we are even in a good position with other elite '16 QB's too. But that's neither here nor there.

Where we disagreed was where you projected who the starting QB would be for the next five years and the comment that it was probable that he wouldn't play until his 5th year. That type of projection is completely innacurate based off of historical flow of the depth chart.

If it wasn't... Then Golson would have been our QB last year, Rees would have never played a snap and Clausen would have been BK's first QB.

Because a QB can effect a game way more than a TE.

Barton Simmons on 2016 5-star QB Jacob Eason

quote:

I don't see him signing w ND unless they change up their offense. He's a pro style kid and he recognizes that ND's system is more catered towards the more athletic guys.

While I certainly do not disagree with that sentiment, Tony Pike sure looked good at Cinci and truth be told, if Tommy had a bigger arm he would have probably set all the ND records for passing. I think if Eason had his heart set on playing for ND, even under Kelly, they would make a pretty good match and do just fine.

Would rather have the dual threat guys, if you wanna run the spread they gotta be able to move.

Agree. He is a for sure take if he wants it. The rest would work itself out.

There's a lot of DT guys that I like in 2016 that this won't kill me if he goes elsewhere. Love him as a prospect but with Barnett this year and a fair number of DT type guys that's where I stand.

I think the Barnett commitment would have more to do with him looking elsewhere than the style of offense ND runs. Eason appears to be a good one. Hope he does well wherever he lands. Grew up cheering for his dad. Dang... I am getting old.

a good coach can tailor his offense to meet the needs of an elite QB...eason could be elite in any system

While I agree with what your saying if there are other elite guys that do fit your system there is no reason to force the situation. It very similar to Rosen and Barnett. Rosen is very very good but Barnett is better for BK's system. Which I would bet actually puts Barnett higher on ND's QB board.

I hope he realizes his grandpa is very wise, smart and that he listens to his advice.

“They have Everett Golson and they’re getting a couple more dual threat guys,” he said of the Notre Dame quarterback situation. “But I talked to their coach and they said that they’d change it to fit my style. They’d move the offense to fit my style instead of the more run-based.”

Said he was visiting ND in late June

Didn't realize, or forgot, this was Tony's boy... interesting. Someone said there was little to no chance here yesterday... why would that be?

Living in the south, it seems odd to hear that phrase with the word "Tony" used. It's almost always, "Archie's boy."

I'm just guessing that whoever said that was making the assumption that a top pocket passing QB would not be interested in coming to a ND offense that is set up for more of a dual threat QB.

I'm assuming Jacob's interest will hinge on how much he loves ND and whether he thinks he can be successful in the ND offense (either currently structured or modified to fit him).

I think if Notre Dame ran a pro-style system, or even a passing-focused spread, Eason to Notre Dame would be a no-brainer. Based on their offense, I had thought it was basically a no-brainer he'd go elsewhere initially but he really made it seem like the ND offer hit hard within his family and I think he's going to really listen to how ND plans to use him.

Run the offense exactly how it was run with Tommy at the helm, except now there wouldn't be a noodle-arm limitation. It would be fantastic.

Of all of the highlights I saw on the few 2015 possibilities, I think I'd rather Eason is our next QB commit.

If staff could get him to commit early, I bet they'd pass on 2015 all together.

If Weis taught us anything it's that you take a QB every year no matter what. Not taking one in the class below Crist killed ND fball.

Imagine Golson plays 2 more years. then Kizer beats Zaire out, Kizer goes down with injury and you have one QB on the roster. You always take a qb in every class.

Just watched his highlights. Kid is a freak. Stands tall in the pocket and has broader shoulders as a high school sophomore than some NCAA quarterbacks. Cannon arm with an effortless motion and a swift release. I'll take him.

I'd take Malik Henry slightly over Eason, but if either looks like they want to make a solid commitment you take it and never look back. Kid's going to be a monster.
