Actually Wooly, I guess it would matter who Pittsburgh gets with their 2nd and 3rd round picks. If they can get a guy like Jason Verrett in the 2nd and a good receiver in the 3rd, then I'd love the Zach Martin pick lol

Yeah. If you feel that WR is your biggest need, than that is even more reason to not use your 1st rounder on it. This is the deepest WR draft I can remember, and there isn't a big dropoff in WR talent from th 1st round to the second.

Shoot... you can get TJ in the 4-6 round.

I'm not as high on TJ as some of you on here. I see him as a reliable #3 receiver in the NFL and that's about it. I really hope he proves me wrong though

You might not be as far off as the rest of us. Most of the guys that want him, want him as a #3 Z receiver.

That is something I think he can do day 1. That being said, he is 21 years old. He got better at ND every year, was a 4 year starter and 2 time captain. His NFL blood line doesn't hurt either.

When you think of a 4-6th rounder, you are looking at a developmental player in most drafts. In this one, you can get kid like TJ, who is a young receiver that can step in day one and productively start. Furthermore, there is a significant amount of evidence that he will continue to get better each year. Making him about as safe of a later round WR pick I have seen in many years. Not to mention, he is high character.

You think he can start day 1? I guess it would matter who drafts him. He'd be the #3 receiver right away in Chicago. I think he will have a career similar to Lance Moore

I personally hope Pittsburgh goes cb or Nix in the first since like Wooly said I think this is a very deep draft for wr. Ideally I would like Pittsburgh to trade back to get another pick in the second or third depending how far they go and grab the remaining cb available out of Dennard/Gilbert/Fuller or even Roby or go D line if necessary in the first. Then if they get the cb in the first then look to the d line or wr like Matthews, Robinson or Benjamin if they are still there in the second. They brought Moncrief in too, I don't know where he is rated maybe 3rd round.

They brought in 3 top cb's for workouts and seem to be the only players they have brought in worth a top 15 pick so I could see them trade down if they get the right offer. Never know with the nfl draft though since I really doubt they plan to draft Pryor even though they brought him in so these workout could mean very little. If Martin is the best player available you have to take him although I would prefer them to trade down and grab a few more picks since they have a bunch of holes to fill.

Prince Shembo, OLB, Notre Dame
He lacks one crazy workout number aside from a 38.5-inch vertical, but Shembo is good all around at 6-1, 253, and with long 33-plus inch arms. He can run sub-4.7, and has good strength at that arm length with 26 reps.

You guys been seeing the buzz about Savage being a 1st rounder? Unreal if that happens. Make's me wonder if these guys even watch football or are just utterly obsessed with measureables.

Savage's game film is UDFA level. He absolutely sucked in college.

I haven't seen anything with Savage in the first, but have with him at the top of the second.

Lots of steam on Buffalo sports radio this morning about Mayock saying that he has multiple sources saying that the Bills are in talks with multiple teams in the top 5 to trade up.

Most are thinking it would be to grab Watkins.

I hope some team is dumb enough to draft him in the first round ahead of the Pats. It simply leaves one more strong option on the board for the Pats when they choose. I do believe this type of draft is one which they will trade out of the first to add a pick or 2.

If Watkins is still there when the Raiders pick 5th, I'd be pleased as punch if they traded that pick for Buffalo's 1st and 2nd picks this yr.

Pretty close in value. 1700 vs 1840. Close enough to get the guy you want if you're Buffalo, right?

Yeah, that's some stupid stuff. I maintain that idiocy like predicting Savage in the 1st rd is a product of the lateness of this draft. Ppl just need to print stuff to fill time and column space, so that's what we get. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some team makes the same mistake, tho - over think it because they have so much time on their hands and pull the trigger on Savage in 1. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Hell, maybe that's what those mocks are based on.

Yesterday I tried to get caught up on this topic by reading a few articles. I don't get it either. Your spot on his film is bad for an NFL QB.

I think last year we traded the 29th overall pick to the Vikings for their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th rounders. You'd have to think BB would be thrilled to get something similar this year.

Dan Shonka, the general manager and national scout for Our Lads, a highly regarded draft service with a great pre-draft publication, is a former NFL scout with the Redskins, Eagles and Chiefs among other independent services.

In a recent conversation, we asked him to break down his seven-round mock draft for the Giants and where he felt the team's biggest needs were.

For the short hand version, Shonka projected the Giants draft to go as follows:

Round 1: Zack Martin, OL, Notre Dame
Round 2: Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame
Round 3: Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State
Round 4: Josh Huff, WR, Oregon
Round 5: Lamin Barrow, ILB, LSU
Round 5: TJ Jones, WR, Notre Dame
Round 6: Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB, Coastal Carolina

Shonka breaks down his reasoning for some of the picks down below...

"Jerry calls the shots more than the coaches there, but I could see them going one of two ways. I could see them doing something with Aaron Donald, but first I think that Zack Martin would probably be perfect for the Giants because he's a five-for-one guy. Ideally, you don't want him on the edge (at tackle), but Justin Pugh has short arms and isn't exactly Jumbo Elliott size-wise and he'll probably end up at guard and he got by at tackle. Martin will get some reps at tackle but ideally he's a guard and, ideally, five or six years down the road, he's a center. His brother starts at center at Notre Dame.

"The way our mock draft turned out, they're getting three Notre Dame guys. They got Martin at No. 12, tight end Troy Niklas at No. 43 and then wide receiver T.J. Jones at No. 187.

"We also gave them Will Sutton (Arizona State) a really good one-gap defensive lineman at No. 74. He was a player of the year out there on defense but he looked a lot more sluggish. He gained like 20 pounds and showed some quickness still but he wasn't as explosive as he was his junior year. If you get his weight down he's a hell of a football player.

"We gave them Josh Huff (wide receiver, Oregon) at No. 113 and a linebacker, Lamin Barrow, out of LSU at No. 152.

"At No. 174 we have Lorenzo Taliaferro, a running back at Coastal Carolina. He's a great size guy, like 230 pounds."

If TJ Jones goes in round 5, whatever team that drafts him will be getting a steal. My Cowboys need a #3WR and if they took him in round 5 I would be insanely happy. Plus he's the perfect fit for our slot needs. Cmon Jerry don't F this one up, haha.

I think Tj should go around 4th-5th round, but this draft is so deep at WR I could also see him going undrafted

You are expecting Jerry Jones to not fuck up in the draft? Come on man... :)

I'm curious about this. I could look at their draft history, but I'd rather hear it from you or other Cowboys fans...How has Jerry Jones f'ed up previous drafts? I feel every year I find the Cowboys taking players I was really high on and the Patriots passing on. For example, Dez Bryant. I'm still upset with Bill that he let a talent like Dez go when WR was such a need at the time. I've always thought Jones was a good "drafter" and his mistakes as a GM were more free agent related. But, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just curious why people feel this way about Jones?

Its funny you ask this because I was reading an article (not the one below but it works) about a week ago on this topic. I'm not going to remember them all but Bryant and Demarcus Ware are two home runs in my eyes. Your right though most of his mistakes are free agent related. Trading away too much for a player or paying too much for a player.

I'll add that way back when they were actually winning stuff Jerry drafted Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, and Jason Witten.
