If Aaron stuck it out at ND and was held accountable for his work ethic, he'd be at worst a 2nd rd. pick.

Its funny you ask this because I was reading an article (not the one below but it works) about a week ago on this topic. I'm not going to remember them all but Bryant and Demarcus Ware are two home runs in my eyes. Your right though most of his mistakes are free agent related. Trading away too much for a player or paying too much for a player.

Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones' 7 Worst Draft Picks | Bleacher Report

I'll add that way back when they were actually winning stuff Jerry drafted Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, and Jason Witten.

Jones built that "dynasty" via the draft (via the ridiculous bounty Minnesota gave him for Herschel Walker). That's another reason I've always thought he was a strong drafter. The other reason may be that he always seems to draft guys that I'm familiar with (i.e. real solid college players that may or may not pan out in the pros, but at least I know who they are). At the end of the day though, what makes the draft so intriguing is that we really have no idea if it's a good or bad draft for a team until 3-4 years into it. What may look like a great draft in April (now May), or on a "draft simulator", can't be confirmed for years to come.

Since some of you brought up Troy Aikman, I went back and looked at the 1989 draft and 4 out of the first 5 picks are HoF with additional selections of Steve Atwater and Andre Rison in that 1st round.

ESPN loves talking about this QB class and Kiper has cited that he believes there are 12 potential starters....or 12 potential busts in this class. I don't think there's much debate that pretty much top to bottom the QBs are Boom or Bust. Excluding the Projected Top 4 of Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater, and Carr, who are the next five guys you like the most?
My List
1) Aaron Murray
2) Zach Mettenberger
3) Jimmy Garoppolo
4) Logan Thomas
5) AJ McCarron

There's something about Murray that I just love, the kid has the intangibles a high completion rate and a rough supporting cast towards the end of the year. He, like Mettenberger, went through the gauntlet of the SEC and came out alive...along with ACL injuries. Garoppolo's release is incredible and I loved watching his combine.
Logan Thomas is the wildcard here. He, like Keith Price, had stellar soph years but just never developed. I love that he worked with Whitfield and is an athletic monster. I think if he goes to a team like the Chiefs where he can sit behind an established starter but not an elite QB, and get some reps.
AJ may never get rid of that gamemanager label but the kid can play. Even though he looked awful against OU his resume is incredible.

For me...

1.) Zach Mettenberger
2.) Aaron Murray
3.) AJ McCarron
4.) Jimmy Garropplo
5.) David Fales
6.) Keith Wenning

I added a 6th because I think Wenning is extremely underrated

Jerry didn't draft any of those guys, it was Jimmy and Bill.

EDIT: I'm not a Cowboys fan FYI, live in DFW and have lots of friends that are though.

Read on another board that there is some smoke that the Rams could trade Bradford to Minnesota and they will draft Johnny at #2. I wouldn't have put any thought into this rumor, but the Rams did go to College Station on Friday to watch him work out.

This is why I love the draft

Or it's a smokescreen to get the Browns to trade for their pick because the guy they like will be available at #4...

In this scenario what was Minnesota giving up?

A bunch of my Cowboys-fan friends were psyched about Manziel slipping to 16. When I asked how drafting him would help the team in any way, they just mumbled something about "JFF". I suggested if they wanted Manziel, they needed to unload Romo's contract and build from there, and if the Rams are willing to do that with Bradford, it could be a major long-term advantage.

Then again, Manziel could pan out to be a turnover machine who can't stay upright so unloading a known entity at QB is risky.

A lot of mocks have the Rams taking Robinson at #2. Maybe they trade Bradford, take Johnny at #2, and draft someone like Zack Martin or Lewan at #13? I guess it's possible.
