Andrew is a tremendous punting talent. A big, tall, strong athlete that will one day dominate the D1 level. Has a great D1 punting frame. Continues to improve at a rapid rate. Punts for great distance and hang time. Punts very well under pressure. Also a strong KO guy. A top 5 national combo prospect. Has a great attitude and work ethic. Big time D1 prospect.

Andrew's ball striking was amazing during the drill work phase of the Western Showcase Camp held 5-1-11. He was consistently making 50 yard FG into the wind off the ground. His ball striking and overall coordination on kick offs needs work to match his FG skills. His approach on FG could improve by shortening his drive step slightly. Overall Andrew is a big-time prospect. showed improvement on his KO at National Scholarship Camp, punting is improving, could be a factor in early recruiting, has talent to move up in rankings

I thought Andrew had an offer from us. So he is passing up the scholarship to be a walk on?

No Ivy League schools give athletic scholarships. They still recruit and take commitments like anyone else though.

Yeah. Switching from an Ivy to a walk-on, at any school, doesn't change the status of paying for school or not. That's kind of what I was getting at.

I hope this a new trend. Most specialists are too inconsistent to justify spending a scholarship on outta high school. Taking promising candidates as preferred walk-ons and putting them on the roster only if they earn it makes a lot more sense.

Offering a guy like Brindza makes sense: nationally ranked combo (K/P) prospect with a huge leg. But if you can't get a guy like that, save the scholarship for a lineman.

Makes me wonder if we ought to be carrying a LS on scholarship. Why not just train an OL to do it?

This guy is actually nationally ranked combo guy.

For all we know the staff told him he gets a scholly if we miss on remaining targets... right now if we don't land EV then it's Jake Golic or Tyler Stockton for an open scholly... might as well give it to a punter at that point if he's good.

I know that blurb from MaxPreps (and a similar one from Scout) says so, but he doesn't seem to be ranked by any of the four major services.

True or not, if you can get 'em with offering, that's obviously preferable. Not sure if we could have gotten Brindza without an offer.

J. Golic or Stockton would be dead weight, but only for one more year. Offering a high school specialist ties up a scholarship for 4 years.

But I fear you may be right. Aside from the fact that he could eventually earn an athletic scholarship here, makes little sense to decommit from Harvard for ND.

If that ends up being the situation, I would give it to Stockton. This takes a scholly for 1 year not 4. I actually like not maxing out this year. It brings balance to the 4 year outlook and prevents booms and busts.

I agree whiskey no schollys to st players...

What's the point? It's not like scholarships are at a premium since we won't even have a full 85 this coming year.

Actually, a really good point. Can't be too much to ask a 3rd string OL, can it?
