Landing a kid from Texas with a Texas A&M offer is more impressive to me than with a Texas offer these days.

Obviously the staff likes this kid a lot more than Hendrix, but I can see the comparisons. Love big, hard hitting safeties that can move well. Great (surprising) pickup.

Think this is one that probably fits in with what BVG wants to do on defense. Get a big, fast, hard hitting safety that can cover when needed and blitz with effect.

Love when we add TX kids. High school football doesn't get any better than down here in Tejas. Welcome aboard, Prentice!

There are several things I like about this commit :

Physically; everything. The kid is probably still growing. 6'2" is turning into 6'3", and the kid has some frame to put on weight. He is not as slow as people thing, he is another fluid strider. Again, my oldest son was always accused of dogging it, then as a freshman he ran in the states for Ohio big schools, in the 100 meter dash and the first two hurdles.

He brings attitude; Not the b. s. smarmy self concerned stuff we see with so many of these pampered kids, but a I want to advance myself and am willing to put in the work, kind of attitude. Also, if you watch his film, players around him go flying. I don't know that I have ever seen another h. s. player that has that kind of impact affect on the other players, let alone one that is listed at 180lbs. This kid is nasty, and focused, I will bet!

An early solid commit in Texas. Today one, tomorrow, the world!

The early commit caught me so off guard I hadn't written a write up for the TP...being sick doesn't help though.

Anyways, psyched about this commitment. I think his rating would have started to really rise, but now that he is committed he won't see the offers pour in.

3 stars out of TX. Doesn't hurt my feelings at all. Cooks is a stud.

Hell yes! Didn't see this coming at all, but looks like a solid prospect, and I love the TX talent pool we're starting to tap in to.

-Coach Cooks was speechless when Prentice told him the news last night

-He had wanted to commit for some time now, he was very anxious to do so. His parents encouraged him to commit as well.

-He says it was a win-win situation for him. If football doesn't work out for him, he will have a great degree to support him.

-He set up his April 12th visit last night

Also to everyone who keeps referencing Hendrix from last year when referring to this kid saying this kid is just a bit better here and there from Hendrix...

Hendrix has this guy in length by just a bit, but when it comes to skills, this guy beats Hendrix in every category soundly IMO. And I really liked Hendrix. This kid is good.

Kids Junior film is great...he's only going to get better in his senior campaign. He's defintely a thumper (may have to dail back some targeting) but he closes like a freak. Love the work Cooks is putting in in Texas.

Oh, I agree. I was only comparing the two in length, they both seem to have a little extra than most S's and playing downhill. I think Prentice has better feet, hips, ball skills, and top end speed. Though I liked watching Hendrix hit people he was a tad stiff for a high end BCS safety.

I'm familiar with Luck Charms, Cheerios, etc.,but not Super Cereal. Is it a limited super hero edition? Sorry Lax, couldn't resist.

Kuehnja is probably perusing the web looking for pics of McKinney with his shirt off. lol

The rate at which Prentice covers ground is what I love most though. 15 yards deep as a safety and he tackles a bubble route BEHIND the line of scrimmage. That's some big time D1 stuff right there.

A&M fans on their 24/7 boards are very, very salty Prentice committed to ND. They think they should have offered earlier and are bashing ND and why he would choose it. They also think (wishfully) that he will reconsider later and that since he hasn't visited ND yet he is a candidate to do so.

I only take it as a good sign another fanbase, especially one that has crushed it in recruiting lately, it angry we pulled a kid with an offer from them. Hope he sticks, but for A&M fans to be so mad when according to Prentice they weren't in his top 3 is kind of funny to me.

Hope he loves his ND visit in a couple weeks.

I'll add that I found it interesting that last night when Bartow (who I don't think very highly of) had great things to say about Prentice but then Charles Powers from Bama's 247 site came over and had glowing things to say about him. That doesn't happen very often.

Is it your opinion (BB, IM8, Lucky) that he is currently way underrated by the recruiting services?

Relative to other S's I can't comment on at this point as I haven't had the chance to see that many on film or at camps. Do I think he is a 3 star player, no. I don't think he's an instant impact guy outside of ST's but I see a solid four star prospect. Somebody that with time will be a starting player on a BCS team.

Vaguely, I categorize stars as followed.

5stars- Can't miss prospect that will have an instant impact.
4stars- May need sometime to develop either physically or skill wise but will be a contributor to your starting 11 at some point during his career.
3star- Has a lot of work to do phyically and/or skill wise. Some may be very raw with a lot of upside and some may have too much to over come physicaly at his specific position (too slow, too small, etc.) However, he has the ability to provide quality depth and play ST's.

Most people think he was under the radar, as over the past month+ he started blowing up with offers and interest from a lot of very big programs (A&M, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc.). Texas was also definitely recruiting him and he had visited there, but they haven't offered yet. I don't know if this'll translate to a big ratings bump.

I think just based on his film he is a four star for sure, however, that is only based on film. There are a lot of things that you learn about a guy off the film. If he's earned a commitable offer from ND though, I know he has checked those boxes as well.

I think by the start of fall, Prentice would have had all the Texas schools and probably all the SEC after him too. With his commitment, he probably won't climb the star ratings ladder as quickly though.
