Not enough "politicking" going on in this thread. I want more House of Cards and less Little House on the Prairie. WHO IS GOING TO BE MY FRANK UNDERWOOD?!?!?!

Fine. Time to break out the big guns. I'm buying votes.

I will trade Tom Loy's personal phone number to anyone who votes according to my wishes. What can you do with Tom's number? Everything.

-Feeling gloomy? Call him up and ask who he thinks is coming to ND. Hint: EVERYONE. Will cheer you right up.

-Don't like him? Crank calls. At 3 AM. Pretend to be Isaiah McKenzie asking out of your Georgia LOI.

-Lonely? Who better to develop a bond with than the nicest, smartest guy on the planet? He has almost 4k Twitter followers, so you know he's cool.

The possibilities are endless. #VoteSTL/Wildman/Whiskey.

*No, I'm not actually going to give you his number, though I have it. I would never betray my BFF like that.

Fuck it. We'll do it live.

Ironman-- Mastering the art of embedding to beat us all to the most recent twitter news is a huge achievement but not worthy of Member of the Year. Craig Biggio of IE. All-star numbers and will ultimately make the Hall of Fame but shouldn't be the MVP.

...

Look, I chide Ironman for going to Don Bosco but that was his parents error (Original Sin) but the Craig Biggio comparison is just cruel. Biggio would have been bigger if twitter was around then.

I love Craig Biggio and think Ironman is a great poster. But like Biggio, he is a singles and doubles hitter with about 14 home runs sprinkled in per year. Chicks dig the long ball.

[apparently disclaimers are preferred on IE so I need to explicitly state that I'm just poking fun at people rather than being malicious]

Warning... I just poured myself a nice, tall glass of Hatorade and am going to spit some honesty for a second.

I do not understand why Ironman garners the votes he gets. I love him as a poster and he got my vote for All-Poster Team. He's one of maybe a half dozen guys on this site where if I see him as the most recent post I open the thread every time, because virtually every time it's something worth reading.

But for me voting on this award it was a very tough decision between STL, Wildman, and Whiskey. Ironman wasn't even someone I'd consider for this award, which I think is the equivalent to an MVP or Heisman style award. He's without a doubt one of the best if not the single best poster on this site, but what makes him Member of the Year? What did he do this year to earn it? What was his "Heisman" moment?

So I'm going to briefly campaign for the three guys I listed:
-Who'saWildmanNow must be the most underrated member of this site. How many of you have watched his various videos? How many of you enjoy Protect this House Friday? Do you guys appreciate the level of talent and effort it takes to produce these artistic gems? He brings something to this site and the Notre Dame nation in general that no one else does. He deserves a LOT more props than he gets.
-STLDomer brings as much if not more information than Ironman. He also took the reigns of the Master Lists and did a WONDERFUL job with them. He puts a lot of effort and time into things fro this site that everyone uses/enjoys. Master List 2014 had 1230 posts and 162k views, far outpacing last year's Master List. Why? Because it was awesomely done.
-Whiskeyjack... not much needs to be said here. He brings uniquely awesome analysis. The ROI thing was revolutionary, and has been used as an effective recruiting tool by the ND staff since he crunched the numbers. The board would simply not be the same without that unique contribution. Whiskey is at least running solid in the votes, which indicates that this fact is not lost on everyone.

In summary... I love Ironman, #1 poster on my list. He is not deserving of member of the year for a second consecutive year. It's a disservice to some other members, like the ones I mentioned above, that he is running away with the vote right now. It's the equivalent of Kobe being named an All-Star over less-acclaimed players with superior performance on the court. Don't vote for Kobe. Don't be that guy.

*drops mic*

Lax, can't say I agree with your opinion on Ironman (I don't think he needs a Heisman moment ... it would be like saying Andrew McCutchen shouldn't have won MVP because he had no MVP moment),

and you may be right about Wildman but I don't know (I don't watch the vids, but maybe I will this season),

but I def agree with you about STLDomer. He was overlooked for rookie of the year last year (I felt guilty about that) and he is getting overlooked again. Dude brings tons of info to this board, and he contributes as much as anyone to making this site as close as a free site will ever get to being a comprehensive recruiting database. Hats off to Slu, for sure.

STL has one vote. ONE! When I cast mine, I thought for sure that he'd be leading or at least out near the front. It's borderline criminal to me that he only has a single vote.

What makes someone THE Member of 2013? I'd say it's that you've made the most valuable contribution to the board. I think you'd be very hard pressed to make a case that STL isn't the guy who did that this past year. He brought his A game on every level.

I just do not get it. Shame on all you lemmings.

Screen-Shot-2013-01-14-at-9.45.23-AM.png

Agreed completely that SLU and Wildman have contributed far more than their votes are reflecting.

Since modesty likely prevented him from adding his own name to this list, allow me to briefly campaign for LAX. His combination of genuine insider info (which is the primary purpose of this site), reporting, moderation, and blogging on The Irish Turning Point was unmatched in 2013.

IM8 is the incumbent MotY, and while he certainly deserved it in 2012, LAX brought the goods in 2013. Vote LAX!

Allow me to play devil's advocate and 'entertain' from a different POV.

STL is his own worst enemy here IMHO. All the work he put in, you would think he'd get more than your vote only. And there is no doubt he put in TONS of work and contributed mightily to this site.

But like me, he gets into with people, and several times needlessly. He pissed a lot of people off. It's one thing to talk shit to me, but to continuously needle TP? You and TP are boys, so this should come as no surprise. Like many who rip TP out of the blue, it came off as petty and jealous. And he also used to lord over his threads like Fidel Castro...if you posted anything he disagreed with he was all over you 5 minutes later. He's not doing that anymore, but 2013 was a long year and people remember.

Case in point, last June I believe, TP wrote on one of STL's threads that there would be some surprise visitors to ND a certain weekend. Good inside info. And he was right, but he got the dates wrong. Well, I gave TP props for letting us know and getting the visitors right, and STL jumped all over me for doing it bc TP got the dates wrong and didn't deserve any props. It was stupid.

Hell, he ripped me in a thread for no reason and you yourself got on him and told him (paraphrasing) "There's a reason he calls you a little shit."

I haven't seen this from him in quite a while, but for 2013, guys like him and I (and some others who shall go nameless) simply cannot be members of the year bc we were in the middle of too much shit to be the MOY. I'm the first to admit that about myself...even if I was dropping incredible knowledge (lol) and the daily, my spats with bogs et al take me completely out of any 'member of the year' category.

For me it was between Lax, Ironman, and Whiskey. It was extremely close. All 3 brought it all year long, and all (especially Whiskey and Ironman) know how to argue their points without really arguing with the posters (I sorely lack in this dept). I went with Whiskey but could be talked into any of them.

I will also say IMHO mods shouldn't be in this category. It should be a layperson. Mods have Mod of the Year and if they post a lot they are shoe-ins for All IE, as they are all quality posters. I'm OK either way, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Fire away lol...

This is a quality observation. It is a quality I have in real life, but for whatever reason don't show on this board.

Not attacking STL, but just making a general point piggybacking off of NDinLA; lots of posters bring stuff from premium sites. I do appreciate it in general, but somebody is going to do it. Same thing with starting threads, etc. If it isn't one person it is another. That doesn't make a good "poster" even if it DOES make them a valuable part of the community. That stuff requires time and/or money, but there is nothing about it that differentiates the poster from anyone else with a bunch of time on their hands. Good posters bring quality insight of their own that they aren't buying from other websites, or information that only they have access to. The poster I'd vote for in this poll could bring something to the conversation just by popping onto the board and giving it a quick read and adding something to the conversation by posting a quick take.

Being really good at bringing info in from other sites is like being a terrific secretary. It is important and we couldn't function without it, but you aren't getting paid as much as the CEO. It requires effort but not talent. The ideas and knowledge are what is valuable.

I'm sure I'll get smashed for saying that, but whatever. Everyone already thinks I'm a jerk. Just sayin' how I feel, man.

Find me the last time I ripped TP. I rip his posse all the time but not him. Even in the example you gave it didn't mean to rip TP, I meant to rip on u haha. But thanks for the negative campaigning, didn't even expect to nominated for the award for the reasons Rhode just posted.

Just so you know, my post really wasn't directed at you. Shouldn't have even had your name in it, its just that your name has been thrown around this thread a lot so for whatever reason it ended up in my post.

And I definitely wasn't trying to say I don't appreciate the info you and others bring, or that you don't bring anything other than info. Just want to clarify.

Notice how you said 'last time'.

I can say the same. Name me the last time I ripped bogs. But just because I haven't done it for awhile doesn't mean it didn't happen. So any shit I get for letting it go too far, I deserve. same for you. Anyway, Lax wondered why you weren't getting votes and I gave him a possible answer.

I knew you'd focus on the 'negative' and ignore the positive, but its all good. Go Irish.

I removed my name from the ballot, for several reasons:

1. I truly don't think I deserve this award, and while I honestly appreciate and thank those who did use the vote to effectively acknowledge and validate the fact that I do try and put in a lot of time and effort (seen and unseen) to make this board and community run as smoothly as possible, I don't want to be a point of contention or debate, especially when it comes to what should be the pointing out of good deeds by exceptional posters. Which brings me to my next point:

2. While I love the campaigning for certain individuals, several of which I truly think are deserving of being recognize for their great contributions to the board, I think that by using backhanded compliments and/or disparaging others in what should be a righteous campaign to get deserving individuals the recognize they clearly deserve completely undermines the whole spirit and meaning of these awards in the first place.

These awards are supposed to be a function so exceptional posters who have had a great positive or memorable impact to the board, in one way or another, can be recognized and lauded for those deeds. I personally don't care too much for those who have a problem with me or my posting style as such a thing is an occupational hazard of being a moderator, but I think that in such cases like the "Overrated Poster" award and negative campaigning against good posters just defeats the entire purpose of the 'award'.

3. Maybe mods should be excluded going forward, as I had an extremely tough time trying to decide who I should personally vote for. I honestly think that every single one of them are truly great individuals and posters on this site, and I could easily make a case for all of them - particularly GITF, Whiskey, Lax, Clashmoremike and Beau this year. ALL of them have made significant contributions to this board this past year, a lot of which goes unseen by most posters.

Personally, I voted for Whiskey in an extremely tight decision, but it should just be a tribute to the rest of the guys that such a great poster should only be the choice by the slimmest of margins.

If mods were excluded, I would probably have to choose in between LuckyLucci, Emcee, STL and a few others (sorry to not name you, I'm on a tangent). Again, it just speaks volumes to the fact that we have so many quality posters now that such a decision is an agonizingly tough one. Which again, transitions to my next point -

4. If you get the chance, read through BGIF's MIA thread. Then come back to this one, and the All Poster Team thread. I'm proud to be a small part of the transition from the dregs of IE to what we are / have now, and consider this board to be at it's high point right now. Hopefully it just keeps getting better.

Sorry for the soliloquy, but I just wanted to get those thoughts across before this thread went any further.

See above for why IM8 was deservedly in the lead. He put things back in perspective quite nicely.

I agree with LA that mods should be excluded from this. We naturally post a lot more than others, so we have an unfair advantage.

If LAX and I are removed, can those who voted for us reselect?

That's a noble thing to do IM8, but I disagree with you removing your name from contention. Others thought enough of you to cast their vote for you. Doesn't matter if someone agrees. disagrees, etc. Everyone votes for different reasons and no one person's reason is any more just than another persons. The poster I voted for has very few votes but it doesn't take away from that poster's contributions to the board. I could give every reason why I voted for that poster and could give you a thousand more reasons for others out here that are just as deserving. I encourage you to reconsider your decision.

I voted for STL. Dude puts in a lot of time to make the recruit profiles and bring good info from other sites to IE. It may seem easy to cut and paste Ht/Wt/40s/offers/etc....but it really is time consuming. His efforts with the Master Lists are very well done and to be able to keep up with all the offers is extremely time consuming and enough to drive you up the wall. He does it all for IE. He is a machine. Good to have him on IE.
