Too bad it wasn't a visit to Tennessee or he'd would have gotten a ride home with a "hostess."

I'm not that far, I guess I could go get him, get him some quality time in Mayberry.

So he went on his OV to his DREAM SCHOOL but just said on Twitter that he didn't commit and that he is stuck in Virginia for the next 3 days with $1 in his pocket and a Gatorade ?

Should have visited an SEC school. Then he could dip into that brown bag and buy a car to drive home.

Don't know if anyone cares, but he told Bartow that the VT visit was an 8/10. He seems to thinks of Virginia as the middle of nowhere ... he said twice how it was a cool college town even though it is in the mountains, haha.

Ole Miss and VT are even, but Georgia is apparently trying to enter the race late.

How funny that an OV to his "dream school" was an 8/10.

It's crazy to me how on other boards people are trying to blame ND admissions for this. Insane. But a buddy of mine who went to ND and later worked in the admissions dept at the University of Chicago (working closely with Michele Obama of all people) said it much better than I could have:

"I love that admissions has become the scape goat here. Even with this kids shitty grades and super low test score they were willing to meet with the kid, interview him and assess whether there was an academic spark there. How dare they want to actually meet the kid so that they could decide if this kid was serious about making it through ND or if he had no clue what would be expected of him in the classroom. How is anyone walking away from this blaming us? Even though every statistical measure told us not to take him we were still willing to get to know the individual to assess if he could in any way, shape, or form be able to handle the workload.

Sorry, I hope the kid makes it and is successful but ND admission has every right to ask for a meeting to see if, regardless of a putrid academic record, does someone have the chops to succeed. If you pass on that meeting because you Are a big shot and have other offers then best of luck to you. I wish you no ill but I am not bowing down to the altar of some kid who hasn't even learned to wipe his behind while failing classes that just a C- would open up new doors. I wish IM would have taken the meeting but he didn't. Such is life. Still, that doesn't mean ND admissions is to blame."

1000% agree

it really sounds like IM couldn't have handled these last 3 weeks in regards to his recruitment any worse.

oh well to each his own...good luck

Yeah. It is literally in the middle of nowhere.

I'm not sure if I feel bad for McKenzie or not. On one hand, tough upbringing and poor guidance are largely responsible for all of this crap. On the other hand, he had the ability to make mature decisions with many people (like his HS coach) advising him what to do and failed to do so. Easily could've said "I want to hold off past NSD so I can take a visit to ND as well as VT" and had all his options on the table.

I'd bet he's headed to JuCo regardless. Alford saved us some disappointment by giving IM a pre-NSD ultimatum.

Oh yeah, it's out there.

Oh that's interesting ... I wonder if he could still do that. If he called Alford today and said he wants to go to ND, can he visit this weekend and sign an LOI, what would they say? It seems we will have a spot for him.

I realize that's totally hypothetical. I think he is more interested in the drama of a NSD decision than in where he actually goes to school. I have a feeling that Ole Miss and VT aren't even at all; he just doesn't want to ruin his signing day moment and give away where he is leaning.

There is a part of me that thinks he signs a LOI on Wed and then we find out that it was fake the whole time......kinda like that kid in Nevada that committed to Cal when they never recruited him (I think the kid's name was Hart).

I say it's sad for several reasons. I wouldn't want my kid sitting in an airport with a couple of dollars and a bottle of Gatorade, but I also think his predicament was purely the result of a poor family support system. I have a suspicion that he's been left to fend for himself a lot and has not had the attention he's needed while growing up. Now that he's getting attention, he can't focus on the important pieces of the process even though his coach and Alford tried to help him.

I can definitely see him going Juco. Hope he gets things straightened out.

The way this has played out, it wouldn't surprise me and your Avatar still creeps me out! lol

I think this would be the least surprising outcome of this recruitment. It could be he's playing the recruiting game for all it's worth right down to NSD, but w/ him not being a verbal to someplace like UF w/ 2 days to go, you'd have to believe, after all that's happened, JuCo is a real possibility.

So he did not know that VT is in the mountains? Surisly? Beautiful campus but Blacksburg is fairly far removed.

He showed up at Berkeley for the first day of classes, but Hart wasn't in the right place.

So VT was his dream school but he did absolutely no research on the school and didn't know anything about the school's location (apart from the fact its in Virginia)? Shocking.

100% agree. Think if he had been all-in with ND he could've possibly made the grade. With one of these other places... maybe he is a late over-the-summer qualifier, but I doubt it.

Apparently he's leaning toward Georgia now? Has he even been there before? Seriously one of the weirder recruitments I've been aware of.
