well.....we're down to two and a half weeks til signing day and if i remember correctly he's already used his official to clemson for a game against and FCS school right?

just going to have to hope the staff stays on him down the stretch, which i'm sure they will and he remembers why he committed to ND in the first place.

Almost none of those self-reported offers were committable. Florida wasn't. USC wasn't, even when they were in dire need of people during the Kiffin sinking ship. Michigan wasn't over the summer when he was looking to commit, but they showed some interest late. And that goes on and on.

He committed to ND basically by default when he realized that he wasn't wanted at any of his other top schools. That's why it came as such a "surprise"... he basically panicked and picked up the phone to make sure he could get on a commit list somewhere.

He had "interest" from all over because as we've said he's very versatile. You can find a spot for someone like him in just about every scheme. That does not mean he is "elite"... if he was, someone in Florida would've wanted him. He'd also not be rated where he is by the services.

And to all the talk about him as a LB, he's viewed by almost everyone as a pass rusher. Clemson is recruiting him at DE from what I think, but that might be out of date. The talk about him playing inside was all out of desperation early in the cycle when we were severely lacking at that position.

The Florida denial has merit, no question. But although you might be right about the USC thing, that (as far as I remember) was much murkier than you're making it seem (maybe you know more than me? Very possible).

There was crazy speculation during USC-ND week that Yeargin wanted to visit USC, but that was all denied by him and he said he's never once contacted them.

Let's be honest, I'm only fired up about Yeargin because he has really ripped abs! Lol. JK

And everyone has a few non-committable offers. But if player A has 22 offers, 18 which are committable, and Yeargin has 42 offers, 35 of which are committable, who's better in the coaches eyes?

Non-commitable offers can apply to 95% of recruits.

Yeah, I'm not talking about when he allegedly reached out to USC but before that over the summer when he was looking around and prior to committing.

I respect you opinion dude. You well-reason your argument and I can see where you're coming from even if I don't personally agree. At least you're not comparing a 6'3" 220 player to Mario Williams :)

It is what it is with Yeargin. I know the staff likes him a lot. I know there are lots of people that like him. I know the services pretty much consensus think he's a very-good-not-great prospect. I think we can all agree he's not nearly as "must get" as he was earlier in the class when we were scary thin at linebacker and pass rusher. We'll see if he signs in February, and hopefully he does.

I will give you this (and it contradicts my argument), I think Hill's tape >> Yeargin's. Although I think if we're moving to a 4-3, Yeargin probably grows into a DE much better than Hill.

You say he won't beat out Hill, Sykes, Trumbetti, Blankenship, etc., yet he is more highly rated than all of them.

Since when do high school recruiting rankings decide position on the depth chart? Have you watched the film on all these guys?

Except.....

Trumbetti is rated much higher... so you're wrong there. Yeargin is rated on .0058 points higher than Blankenship and everyone who knows anything about our defense would agree that Blankenship is a better DE prospect for what we want to do. Morgan is rated much higher, if you're including him in the "etc." And Hill is widely regarded as the most under the radar guy in our class, routinely referred to as a "steal" by people around the industry, and has uber impressive film.

I then also said you could make a case for him beating out Sykes and Martini if we stayed in a 3-4, who are rated below him. And floated that he could beat out Bonner, who he's also rated higher then.

This was all in respect to early PT, and the whole post was just pointing out how he'd have to battle a lot of people rated comparably or higher in this class for immediate PT at either ILB or as a pass rusher.

Soooo.... yeahhhhhhh...........

It doesn't end there. See vanderdoes, eddie.

Yeah...but when that letter of intent is signed and delivered there is skin in the game. Right now we just have someone's word. It may be my line of work but a signature on a contract is what allows me to sleep at night.

I'm sorry but iron but I have watched all of there films and Yeargin is not even in the same class as those other guys. If you honestly watch his film with a critical eye you will see a lot of the plays he makes is because either no one blocks him or he is blitzing. He doesn't tackle well in space and he does not read his keys at ALL. I can see how athletic he is and he will grow into a great DE in a couple years but he will not play as a true freshman unless it is SPecail Teams.

All I know is the coaching staff REALLY likes this guy. Versatile guy. He's been a major target all recruiting season. Have no doubt he signs with ND.

If you have no doubt, you haven't been paint attention to his recruitment at all.

Gawwwwwd...can it just be NSD yet?!?!?! I'm tired of all this!

Best thing I ever did was stop caring so much about recruiting. I mean, I still follow it like CRAZY, but I just don't give a shit anymore when decommits happen.

I remember when the Tee Shepard crap went down, I was beyond pissed. Devastated. I remember LOSING EFFING SLEEP over it. I had a 4 month-old and I was worrying about a 17 year-old kid's actions in college. Unbelievable. From that point on, I realized how sick that was and completely stopped giving a fuck when cramp like that went down. Yeah, it sucks royally when they decommit, and it will probably hurt us down the road, but I get pissed enough during the season...no need to keep it going all year as these kids repeatedly change their minds.

I ain't blaming you for being pissed, cause I was there once too; I'm just saying, I enjoy where I'm at MUCH more now...

I still really don't understand why there is an assumption that he's an elite prospect. Maybe that's just me. There seem to be a lot of people here that love him. I just don't see it, and his ratings don't reflect it either. He's not one of the higher rated recruits in the class, and isn't the top prospect at any of his projected positions. He's a low 4:s: by every service I think, and he's definitely a quality prospect, but who do we see him beating out for PT?

Morgan? No. Hill? I don't see that. Trumbetti or Blankenship as a pass rusher? I don't see that either. I mean you can literally go down the list and the only people you can really even make a case for him beating out would be Sykes and Martini if we stayed in a 3-4. As a pass rusher... Bonner? It's tough.

Actually typed that in a moment of haste..... was thinking about Morgan. Yeargin is my 2nd favorite LB though. I do think he sees the field a bit next year. Love his flexibility.

sacrifices meaning correct spelling...

that's for dshans.

If he wants to come to the University of Notre Dame, that's great. We will welcome him and treat him as our own.

If he wants to go elsewhere, that's great too. We will wish him well and treat him as a competitor.

That's the way it goes.

Ain't that serious.

Maybe he worked hard in life so he could choose to attend ND instead of UF or UM. Maybe he earned choosing ND. That's how I take it.

That's what I am hoping. After reading some of Lax's posts I had no idea he was "looking around" that much before committing to ND.

Maybe he's under a lot of pressure from his friend at Clemson and their staff. Could it be he's just saying I made my choice (ND) now deal with it?

Yup. Tee started my not caring and then EV finished it. After that debacle, I officially stopped caring because I wasted so much time and energy for nothing. Once I checked out, life was much better.

The staff is so good at what they do and I trust them so I have no reason to fault them over the little things. This is their their career at stake so no doubt they want to be succesful. So if they decide they want a low 3-star who fits what they want over some head case 5-star then so be it. Stars dont mean much anyway. That's just my opinion anyway.

Sorry for the rant.
