Really hope he takes the reigns next year. He and Folston should seperate themselves with the year of adjusting under their belts. I hope Amir lives next to the throw machine and can slide over to the Slot but, the better option for that will probably be Will Fuller. The RB position will be an interesting battle for sure next year. These next 6 games (Bowl included) hopefully sets up for more clarity moving forward.

Yeah, from all accounts, ND and Greg are on the same page and for now he see's the big picture. That is what going to ND is about..maturation. If he understands then he is going to be a better man for it. All it takes is perspective on what would happen if he stayed or left and that is what this staff excels at....being Brutally Honest.

With an emerging Cam along with Folston and Greg having the whole playbook and blitz pickups down, it will be very tough for GA3 to keep his role in this offense next year. It just seems like he hasn't taken the next step that I thought he would take this year.

And who knows, what if Bo decides to go to Notre Dame? The future isn't looking bright for George IMO

Agreed, and GA seems to have taken a step back in the return game as well. He just isn't hitting it up there like he was as a frosh. I don't get it. Pretty disappointing. Wiltfong predicted McKenzie to step in right away as a frosh for ND in the return game.

Can Whiskey get in here and remind us how his transfer is confirmed again.

I never said the transfer was "confirmed". A normally reliable source tipped off the mods here that Bryant was transferring. But it was an unsubstantiated rumor, so we didn't share it with the board at the time; especially with the way the season was going, panic over another alleged 5:s: transfer was the last thing we needed.

Then the rumor hit the board, and other normally reliable sources (jimmymac, etc.) seemed to confirm it. So rather than trying to keep it under wraps, I thought it'd be best to just let it run its course. That way, if true, everyone would have come to terms with it already; but if not, then it'd be a pleasant surprise. I'm happy to see this situation is trending toward the latter scenario, and I apologize if the way we handled this rumor caused any avoidable heartburn. Though I'm not sure there was a viable alternative.

I would advise everyone to remain neutral on this subject. There have definitely been rumors from VERY reliable sources that he wanted to transfer and other comments obviously disputing that. I think it is far too early to know either way. He literally could be changing his mind every week for all we know.

I'll definitely shoulder some blame for people buying what Damefan was selling. A couple weeks before Damefan "broke the news" I had heard from a couple different people that Bryant was strongly leaning towards transferring. Like jimmymac gave examples of... there was simply a LOT of information/evidence/smoke out there. So I wrote a PM to the other mods as a heads up saying to expect it... and then closed it with the disclaimer:

At least that's the way he's leaning right now. Don't post it on the board as more panic and sh*t is just not needed right now. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

The bottom line is that Damefan made a ridiculous decision to post what he did when he did. It was completely irresponsible, and coming on the back of what had been brewing it was taken at face value. No one should EVER post something like he did unless they have it 100% dead to rights... trying to scoop a situation like this is a total bush league move on every level. He went full Deadspin, when what he should've tried to be is Yahoo Sports.

The thing is, kids having second thoughts or being homesick or wanting to transfer is nothing new. A lot of times it gets worked out. Other times, it doesn't. But it has an infinitely better chance of getting worked out behind closed doors man-to-man than once Grubl & Co. get ahold of it on Twitter/Facebook and go berserk. Damefan's flameout is a perfect illustration of why dozens of people who had this information, including myself, did not run to the boards posting conjecture and rumors. It is a fruitless endeavor. If someone leaves, they leave. If they stay, they stay. Until the transfer papers are filed speculation can only hurt the odds of things getting smoothed over.

So in short... I don't blame people (jimmymac, Whiskey, myself, others) who had heard the rumors for taking Damefan's post at face value. I put 100% of the blame on Damefan for prematurely running with a story he didn't have his facts completely straight on.

I don't think anybody on here will blame you guys. Damefan is a complete douche and some of the turds on the II board follow his every move.

Reliable people on here have told me he has inside sources, but I still refuse to believe it. Grubl is a well-intentioned clown. Damefan is a douche. Plain and simple.

Yeah, I don't blame anyone on this site for anything. I don't know that there's anything wrong with writing anonymously (but credibly) on a message board that Bryant was talking about transferring. That's the kind of thing that message boards are for.

I would advise everyone to remain neutral on this subject. There have definitely been rumors from VERY reliable sources that he wanted to transfer and other comments obviously disputing that. I think this is the most important thing to recognize in all this. Even Greg Bryant doesn't know whether he is going to transfer, whether he realizes that or not. I'm telling you, I've seen it myself, guys promising that they are going to transfer as soon as the semester ends and then never going through with it. I think it's just prudent to remain skeptical until he takes concrete steps toward transferring.

After the Oklahoma game, everyone kept saying how 'GAIII had turned the corner' and how 'he finally gets it'.

I made the argument that that game was fool's gold. A strong game, amplified by one great run, against a small Oklahoma defense.

You don't simply 'get it' after 3 years at RB. He's not a natural running back, and as Cam/Folston/Amir pick it up, expect GAIII to get squeezed out.

About Bryant - I hope it's true, but I will do as GITF advised. Let's be honest, no one on the team looks better shirtless. He will be a beast.

Not saying you are wrong, but what other positions has a senior leader been squeezed out of a role other than at the quarterback position. I am not trying to be crude, I just can't think of one off the top of my head.

I am sure there are a few, but I don't see GAIII losing his "role" in the offense. His place on the team, even this year, is 5-10 touches a game. He may get more or less depending on how games play out, which was the case against Oklahoma and Arizona State.

IMO he may be closer to 5 rather than 10 next year, but he will still play the same role. We have a slew of "niche" running backs this year, and none that can do all the jobs. I believe Kelly actually stated something to his affect in a recent press conference.

I think GAIII's niche is the only one that cannot be replaced easily, because he held pretty much the exact same role last year, on a more limited basis, even though we had two outstanding senior running backs.

Jonas is one of my all time favorites, but by all accounts, Gray was simply not giving it his all until his senior year. He was good enough to play his freshman year, but fumbled in the red zone after a long drive nearly costing ND the Navy game.

Gray was built like an NFL RB and ran fine from day 1, it was a committment issue apparently.

I think he is a very differnt story than GAIII.

Jonas ran like a RB, GAIII does not. There's no comparing the two styles. Jonas ran low, hard, and made good cuts. GAIII doesn't run low with consistency and has never shown that he has the agility to make a RB cut. That will not develop enough this year or next. He's still decent because he's 220 pounds and runs a 4.4, but as we always say, what good is the 40 yard dash time? He's going to get passed IMO.

IDK what they can do with GAIII at this point. This year he's still very important, but as Cam/Folston/Amir/*Bryant pick it up, they simply have a talent he does not, and I don't see him playing much of a role at RB in big games next year.

I said this two years ago and suggested he be moved to a safety because he just doesn't run like a RB and it doesn't come with time. I was told 'the sharks are circling you on this board' because of that opinion, lol.
