Take this for what it is but this is something I heard from a local and friend of EG while I am Myrtle..

Everett not to return to ND but opt for a school in SC.. looking at Clemson or Coastal..

For me, both don't make sense.. I know Taj is leaving after this year but Kelly is in the barn...
Coastal...I mean, outlandish.

But it's what I heard while here... can someone in the know please dispute this with real info, or does this line of thinking have traction...

Go Irish!

I don't buy it, not saying you haven't heard this but I just feel like unless things have gone south with the coaches he has no reason to not come back to ND

To add to rikki, it seems like the general consensus around here is that EG is in consistent contact with the coaching staff, and has been working with Whitfield in anticipation of returning to ND.

Impossible. I've already won the 2014 heisman with him as the ND QB on ps3 so you better check your sources.

I guess anything is possible, but seriously don't think he would make that decision. If he doesn't come back he will get to play only one more year, as he'd have to sit next year due to the transfer (short of a waiver - which, given the recent past is I guess is feasible he 'could'' get). I just really doubt it though.

I am sure he is getting some good instruction during his time away, at least when Whitfield isn't on Gameday, but 2 years of dodging brooms and doing footwork drills in the surf isn't preparing him for his final year of CFB were he to transfer.

So, unless he is absolutely convinced that Malik will beat him out, why would he transfer?

Silly talk of Golson going elsewhere. In 3 months he will be HANDED the keys to the team, the team he just took through an undefeated season, the team ready to give him immediate national notoriety, a team loaded with offensive talent that he can run virtually sans competition for the next two years--providing the perfect showcase for any NFL dreams.

He is going to walk away from that for costal Carolina or to start from scratch at Clemson, its ridiculous.

It could be silly. It could also be tempting. He won't have to worry about the ND Honor Code, du Lac, parietals, competing in the classroom against academic elite, or being required to attend class and turn in assignments. No class, no play wouldn't be a factor there.

Freedom to focus on football as opposed to focusing on Student AND Athlete.

It's a decision he has to make. Last Spring he said all the right things. In early January he'll show what's important to him then.

Just as Nix and Tuitt will do some heavy thinking about what is right for them at that point of their lives.

Ha... Has a random poster with "inside info" ever been right? I mean, even a single time?

Well my best friends neighbor across the street, heard from this guy who knows this guy that use to wear the same shoes that EG wears, who has a dog that takes a dump on the same practice field that EG use to play on in High School, well that dog barked twice this morning, and based on the translation from Cesar, EG is heading to Clemson next season.

Truly do hope he comes back, become immediate threat to make playoff run with him. Feels weird to say that. Anyways, if he don't so be it, Malik will do well and represent us right until he doesn't. I am more sold on the coaching than ever before. At some point we will get the right kid back there and this thing will really take off. Honestly to me, it already has. 33-13 for BK and 3-1 vs USC. Somehow the only thing on my mind is getting a rematch vs Michigan in a bowl game. Beat them and I will have enjoyed this season more than last years. There is no better feeling as a fan than watching your team rally as a group and get wins like the last 2 games. Very proud to be Irish always but especially right now!

I'll believe it if it were to happen. But I doubt it. As far as the 'he was able to go to the other schools already if he wanted to' argument, that is true, but he could have also made his decision after the semester started which would mean he wouldn't be there yet.

But why wouldn't he announce that he's not coming back earlier? That would give him a chance to visit schools or talk with coaches. Last year, Butler basketball player Chrishawn Hopkins got kicked out for a hilarious reason, and he was at Wright State later the same semester. I'm not sure if he was taking classes, but he was definitely in Dayton. Golson has to see the opportunity here. I don't think people will be super pissed at him, and he would be able to prodigal son it.

To further this line of thinking, people transfer mid-semester or mid-season or whatever you want to call it all the time. There is never an issue with reporting to campus and getting acclimated. For a home grown example, look not further than Demetrius Jones.

If Golson was going to attend another school, he would already be on campus working out and getting acclimated. He would not be biding his time for the whole summer + a semester. He was kicked out in May and had all summer to find another school if he wanted for the fall.

Hearing that rumor in SC makes absolute sense.

It is kind of like the response of an old girlfriend you dumped when your current relationship hits hard times . . .

As hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, neither does an SEC state like SC.

I seriously doubt Golson is going anywhere else. If he was struggling with academics and couldn't cut it, maybe he tries another location. If we're strictly talking football, he has a chance to come back next year and walk right back into a starting role essentially for Notre Dame. He'll get plenty of attention, more than just about any other QB in the country, and that's good for future NFL plans if he has that dream. IF he goes somewhere else then he has to sit out a year, and he's probably going to have to compete for the starting job after that (Depending on where he goes). It's also unlikely that he'll get quite as much attention in comparison to the ND job.

Last I saw, Kelly said he talks to him once a week while Martin talks to him a couple times a week.

I understand all of this. But you have to leave your mind open to the idea he possibly won't return until he does. Nobody could have thought he would have had to leave until he did. And what if he worked his *** off and then recently decided not to return for his own reasons. Look at the players/recruits we've lost recently. And for the reasons they left too. And lets not pretend like Clemson isn't a great opportunity as well. Like I said previous, I think he comes back.

It's stupid that this rumor, if you can even call it that, has to be addressed.

Rumours tend to grow legs around this program, just saying. My bet is that he doesn't end up back here. Thats just going on a gut feeling.

After this season's QB drama....ND is def keeping tabs on Golson's every move. If there was something up, that Jet would be fired up to Cali.
