C'mon fellas, I am disappointed in all of you. Twenty-some posts and not one about Rees coming out of the tunnel and raising his arms to perform some sort of EMP-esque miracle to wipe out the light bracelets!!!

So, they'll be flashing prior to kickoff and once the ball is kicked and music shuts off they stop. Is that what your thinking?

Yeah, I'm thinking they would be turned off while there is play on the field. I can't for the life of me see how officials would allow those bracelets strobing while the teams are playing.

It seems like this is the case every damn year but here we are again… regardless of what happens, if Notre Dame wants to make a BCS run they probably have to win Saturday imo… with remaining games against OU, ASU, MSU, BYU, USC and Stanford I don’t know if a team can start 1-1 and then rebound against those six games (while avoiding the dreaded trap game Notre Dame always seems to find) without dropping another game or two… I really think they have to win Saturday to keep ten plus wins realistic.

Yup, agree. I have Stanford down as a loss ( I would like to see a few more games, but as of right now that's my gut feeling).
If we can beat scUM on Saturday I have a good feeling about going 6-0 heading into the SC game.
Get through SC and we can sail through the rest of the schedule until Stanford. Then who knows.

Well at least that's how I would like for it to play out ;).

There is also another factor to consider, if this is a ten plus win team you beat this Michigan squad imo... no disrepect but we all know they have been down and are on the way back up... they aren't there yet... if a team is truly a 'big boy', you beat this Michigan team this year.

I'm not as knowledgeable about schemes as some on here, but I have a question to pose:

I understand containment and ILB blitzes. Whiskey linked this article by OFD earlier which explained a lot. But what about running some stunts with Tuitt stunting inside to take on UM's interior OL? My sense is that it would be tough to pull off and still maintain "contain".

i know there's not a lot of fans of the team from cbus ohio on here, but still one of the coolest things ever is when they came out of the tunnel and tore down the go blue club sign in the 1970s....a repeat of that would be pretty awesome imo

So I just talked to a lighting engineer we use on some garage jobs and he said unless they are EXTREMELY high powered (Maglite level) LEDs that in a well lit stadium of ~100 foot-candles they will be practically unnoticeable.

If they are done like the Coldplay then they're going to be barely perceptible with the lights on... so he supposes they'll use them for a pre-game intro of sorts with the lights off or halftime show.

Damn straight. I want ND to be the bullies of college football again. If we want to be the standard bearers we must beat teams like Michigan consistently. Michigan is a good, not great team right now. If you look at our schedule you can make an objective case that we are better than every team on our schedule excepting Stanford. If we want to be the man we need to handle our business and it starts on Saturday.

I know BK isn't big on style points but if we can destroy Michigan we should. Show them no mercy. We'll ask Brady Hoke who the chickens are after the game.

I took my girlfriend and her family to a U of M game last year and I believe they had some interactive halftime thing going. It didn't involve lights as it was daytime, but some sort of signage we held up at times and it made the whole stadium say something as you followed around the bowl.

Are you still planning on writing that article? Sorting opposing QBs by mobile/ immobile might be misleading here as far as schematic weakness is concerned. Some of the mobile QBs we've faced recently have been insanely good (Luck, Robinson, etc.)

It's up now: Defending Mobile Quarterbacks | Irish Turning Point

It's pretty long... but I actually cut about 2 full pages worth of stats and nitty gritty. Had a lot of help on it from people who know their sh*t, and shoutout to NDWorld247 on this board for his input.

ND stunted a lot against Temple, but it was Williams that stunted inside, as he was outside of Tuitt in our 4 man front with Nix inside and Shembo outside on the other side.

Williams Tuitt Nix Shembo with Day rotating inside.

Kyle Kalis is 6-5, 300+ and was recruited for that type of offense. Graham Glasgow was a preferred walk-on but he also happens to be 6-6, 310 pounds and he played even better than Kyle Kalis against CMU. I think Glasgow is a legit option going forward. Jack Miller, like I thought he would be, was the weakest link on the OL against CMU. Borges said in his presser that Glasgow was still taking snaps at C in practice and that they might toy with the line-up. If Glasgow moves to center and Chris Bryant gets the start at LG, that is pretty big interior OL and a much improved one over what they trotted out last year IMO.

There is nothing more I'd like than for this game to be a brawl in the trenches. Bring it on with your bad *** offensive line.

I was thinking that there would be no way that those tiny blue lights could be noticeable with the big lights being on at the same time

I don't think it's laughable at all. He's a similar type of player. Gardner has incredible potential, his talent is very real.

Have you ever seen Vince Young run in person? I have, as I lived in Nashville when he was a Titan. Young is incredibly fast and explosive, which is why during his redshirt freshman season of 2003 he ran the ball 135 times for 998 yards, an average of 7.4 yards per carry. You should know all about Young, because the next year he ran for 192 yards against Michigan on 21 carries, that's 9.1 yards per carry! That year, he had 5 games over 100 yards rushing.

Comparatively, as a redshirt sophomore QB, Gardner ran 47 times for 101 net yards. That's 2.1 yard per carry. In the 5 games Gardner has started as QB, his highest rushing total is 52 yards, against Central Michigan. Against OSU last year, he rushed for -28 yards!

See a slight difference?

Gardner's a nice dual threat QB, but he's not Vince Young. He has nowhere near the speed and explosiveness.

I can't imagine scUM would do something bush league that would affect the game, but Hoke likes to grandstand about ND killing the rivalry, so you never know.

Who's an ESPN insider around here? I see Phil Steele picked ND and I'd love to see his analysis. He is one guy that truly knows his stuff and does his homework.

You gotta say though, they do their under the lights way better than we do. We got dark blue towels for our first game, they got yellow pom-poms, the entire stadium. Now this?

Pretty cool

Not to go all ndnation but its really an awful idea. I would hope we would never do something like that.

And, Gardner is something like 20-25lbs lighter than what VY was when Young was in his final year. Young could run around or over LB's and definitely run through DB's trying to tackle him, Gardner is more one to just try to run around them (he won't punish DB's trying to tackle him like VY would).

After us letting the temple qb run like he did if we play like that we do not win. Also special teams have to get better or we do not win. I hope we have put it together this week cause if not it won't be too fun. That being said Tommy Rees still rules and I hope he plays as good as he did against Temple.

Frankly not a whole lot of analysis. Predicts it'll boil down to line play. Picks us by a point.

The key matchup could be a relatively inexperienced Michigan offensive line (except for All-American tackle Taylor Lewan) against one of the nation's best defensive lines (led by Louis Nix III and Stephon Tuitt). Whoever wins that battle up front will go a long way toward determining the outcome of the game.

There has been some well-noted banter between the head coaches. Hoke made waves this offseason, saying the Irish are "chickening" out of the series with their move to an ACC-dominated schedule, and earlier this week Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said he considers this to be a nonhistoric rivalry.

Regardless, expect both teams to play with a chip on their shoulders, and this one will go down to the wire like each of the last four meetings. This is an underdog-driven series as there have been nine upsets in the last 13 years, and I will call for another upset this year.

Pick: Notre Dame 24, Michigan 23
