Dude chill out, I'm sorry I thought a that looks like he could be slightly Polynesian and is good friends w/ Mama & Luatua & went to a Polynesian camp might my Polynesian.

Has someone told u he isn't? Have u read that somewhere?

The only thing I have read about his race is you telling me he was Polynesian. My statement that he is not Polynesian is just as ignorant as your statements he is. Neither of us have facts to back it up besides our perception of his images online, so, I'm sorry if my posts on this subject came across as hostile. That was not my intent. I have a strong belief he is not Polynesian and perhaps one of our beloved twitter stalkers (here's looking at you, Paul) can confirm one way or another. Either way, doesn't matter. We can agree to disagree and hug it out.

The thing I did have an issue with is your attempt to discredit my belief (again, based on a lot of experience) that there is something about Polynesians that screams defense. There just wasn't a need for it. I could dig of facts (i.e. Polynesians in the NFL and/or College) to prove my OPINION, but it was just a really poor attempt to discredit what I was saying. You disagree? Fine, let's discuss it. I just don't really understand what the point of your response to me was.

False, I said I read he was, u didn't believe me. I then tracked down the info instead of just saying you we're wrong

Smith is not Polynesian and he doesn't look Polynesian in any pictures. And, Adoree Jackson, among others, played for the Team AIGA (meaning family in Samoan). That does not make them Polynesian.

But let's get back to the point you were trying to make by listing Polynesians that prefer to play offense to discredit my belief (based on a lot of experience with Polynesian players) that there is something about Polynesians that screams defense. Oh wait, there was no point. Moving on...

Wait, what?

There have certainly been a lot of great Polynesian defensive players. Seau, Polomalu. Lately there's Star Lotulelei. But all Polynesians "scream defense"? Don't plenty of them play offense too? Particularly OL, but there have been some skill guys too. Chris Fuamatu-Maafala and Marques Tuiasosopo (sigh) come immediately to mind, plus that Toilolo at Stanford and that RB from Arizona who I remember thinking was a good-looking player last fall.

EDIT: Did some google research to try to come up with that running back's name (apparently Arizona has two Polynesians RBs and I can't remember which was the one who impressed me ... I think it was Antolin), and I found this article. Lots of Polynesian offensive players mentioned here, in addition to many defensive ones:

Juju Smith is half Somoan according to the USC 247 reporter.

Go tell him he's wrong

I will. What's his email address...

If your information is correct, I was wrong. It happened once back in 93' so I'm vaguely familiar with the feeling. He doesn't look anything like the Samoans I've seen and I've been to American Samoa.

How bout u just completely give up that your wrong instead of insinuating my report could be incorrect?

I'm half Filipino which is not the same as Somoan but there are facial characteristics I could name that many Filipinos and Somoans share. I see them in Juju

I was wrong once in 1993 too......I was convinced Pete Bercich could catch.

I just talked to a 247 UCLA reporter and he said Smith was not Samoan at all. First one to post proof of their conversation wins...

I never said they don't play offense. I was responding to a poster about why I wouldn't hesitate moving him to defense and simply said I have spent a lot of time around them and there's something about them that screams defense. Meaning, every Samoan player I have met ages 16-18 absolutely loves hitting people and playing the defensive side of the ball. I am assuming Luatua shares the mindset that I have personally seen in 100% of the Samoans I've been around. I have also seen Polynesians that play offense and I think Luatua would be phenomenal regardless of what side of the ball he plays. Hopefully he is playing at ND.

I said I was wrong based on your information. I wasn't insinuating it was incorrect. I don't know you to post false info so chill out.

Why don't you stop ignoring the fact there was no point to your response of my post about why I wouldn't hesitate to move him? I wasn't arguing player preference so not sure why you would try to make that point.

It was a fun fact, I agree Polynesian and defense go together so it's ironic that Luatua and Mama (and possibly Smith) prefer O.

The USC 247 guy was at the camp, I don't see why he would make that up. I guess we'll never know.

And let's not pretend you saying you we're wrong wasnt backhanded.

"If your information is correct"

"I was wrong, it happend once..."

He doesn't look anything like the Samoans I've seen"

Sorry, I didn't interpret it that way. My apologies.

The wonderful thing about Polynesians (and guys that are rumored to be 50% Poly :) ) is there are just incredible football players. All three of the guys you mentioned could be 4-star athletes on either side of the ball.

EDIT: Through some extensive google searching, I have found evidence that would strongly suggest JuJu Smith has Polynesian bloodlines. I was wrong.

Bruce Heggie is 50% Polynesian. Tommy Rees is a 1/4. Wes Welker is 62%

Why are you guys arguing about Juju's ethnicity in this thread? He has his own thread.

The wonderful thing about the Polynesian people is that they historically have been sexually active with a variety of nationalities. Just ask Lieutenant William Bligh, and he will confirm, that Polynesian girls just want to have fun. He had a hell of a time getting his crew back on board the Bounty for a return trip to England. Once the Bounty lifted anchor from Tahiti, all hell broke loose. But that's another story. Conversely, Adoree Jackson definitely does not look like a full-blooded Polynesian to me, nor 50% or even less, but if Adoree wants to play with Polynesians, and it will get him to verbally commit to Notre Dame, I am in favor of his participation in Polynesian games.

Do we discount that composite ranking of 75 because we "don't like" Scout and ESPN? Or are they cool in this case?
Either way, he appears to be our next elite tight end. Just waiting on a commit at this point, yes? And, technically, people from the British Isles are Polynesians (Greek for "many islands"). So he'd fit right in.

That'd be fair. ESPN and Scout are generally less reliable than 247 and Rivals, and they're the clear outliers here.

So maybe he's a top-100 recruit instead of a top-75. Still the #1 TE.

ESPNs rankings, in my limited experience here, are out of control bad.

They are usually so far out of whack with everyone else. It's like they're just trying to start controversy.... wait... oh.

edit: I'm not trying to say that Latua isn't the best TE in the country. Just that ESPN is terrible at telling us whether or not that's true. If he committed to ND tomorrow, chances are he wouldn't hold that ranking for long.

I hadn't noticed, but apparently Luatua dropped to #3 TE on 247 the other day when they did their new rankings.

I was reading tBB on 247 and JC had this to say:

Q: Just curious what Tyler luatua has done to keep dropping in the rankings. Is he not what you thought he was or what?

JC's response: Yeah when we've seen him this spring/summer, he doesn't look the same athletically. Plus, there are questions about his hands.

The "keep dropping" remark is in regards to 247 dropping him from an original 97 rating last year to 95 in March and then 94 in May. His rating did not change in the latest ranking update.

It will be interesting to see what Rivals does with him in their next ranking considering he performed at the Rivals100 Challenge in June.

a couple of pages back stated at a camp or 2 he wasn't giving 100% and therefore didn't look the part of #1TE ....he was playing receiver instead of TE and i guess he wasn't happy about it

Anyone hear rumblings of Tyler wanting to commit?

Something on ISD Intel from what I've heard

He would be a great in line blocker and working down the middle of the field. He could play cat but could also play inside possibly. He is just a great prospect to have on the team.

Good news on Luatua for ND? Bama offered TE Trevor Wood from Scottsdale, Arizona yesterday.
