"Set the bar pretty high" sounds like someone who is looking for something better.

This may be a silly question, but why are these weight rooms SO ENORMOUS, with endless rows of the same equipment. It's visually impressive, but seems a little much. There's only so many guys on the team. 85 men, 85 squat racks?

As for Mr. Lazard, I'm always dubious about elite kids who commit early to hometown programs that traditionally suck (same with Elam and Kentucky). Maybe his family ties keep him there and if so, God bless. But I'd lay significant odds that some point this season, he's going to see them getting drubbed, on their way to 5-7, and realize that he alone isn't going to be enough to change that. And then he'll call Bob Elliott.

Football off-season training focuses on intensity and explosion. Time is limited and you want to squeeze every drip of effort from these players. If, for example, you can work out in pairs as opposed to groups of four, you will increase the intensity of the work-out b/c there is less standing around waiting for someone else to finish their set. You want these guys under the weight, exploding off the floor, handing off to their partner for a quick set and coming back for more. Crazy old coach I had would always scream "intensity equals density."

Those racks are multi-functional too. You can do pull ups, squat, dead lift, power clean etc.

The more space you give a guy like Longo, the more creative he can get with the work-outs.

No it doesn't. "Set the bar pretty high, BUT..." sounds like someone who is looking for something better.

Yes it does. You don't say that unless you're looking at other options. You don't say that if you're a solid commit.

I could argue the exact opposite based on that quote. You're grasping at straws here.

I don't think he's grasping at straws.......as well you could make a good argument! I do tend to agree with Nuke, in that, you're saying school A set set the standard, what can school B do to rise above that standard.......if he were completely satisfied with school A, then tell me why he's still looking at school B???? Something tells me he's not completely satisfied with all the answers presented before him, but that's just my opinion.......

So you're saying Northern Iowa under the lights to kickoff the season isn't doing it for you?

Kak, people will come Kak. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the sidelines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Kak. The one constant through all the years, Kak, has been ISU footbball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But ISU football has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Kak. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Kak. People will most definitely come.

Everything this kid says screams "steal me please". He won't end up at Iowa St, I hope we get him and not some Cali school.

The atmosphere at both of these games will be phenomenal and nothing Iowa State can compete with.

Saying 97% does seem to be pretty inviting! Just wanna make a quick point here. I grew up in Ames, Cyclones fan my whole life. Best game atmosphere I've ever been a part of was the ISU vs. Oklahoma St game under the lights in 2011. Even a bit better than ND vs. Stanford this year. Jack Trice gets pretty loud.

97%? Wasn't Darby 98-99%?

Lot of spin on the Cyclones website over the 97% "He's just saying that so he can see some good games at other schools this fall." "He's 100%" "Lazard is all in." Of course theres some more realistic guys that realize that 3% can only grow if their coach is gone after this year or if they tank.

My favorite things they do on that site:

1)Suggest that we pay players

2)say that he's visiting to turn kids onto playing for ISU. If I was a recruit visiting places like ND, USC, Stanford, etc. I think I'd honestly laugh if some kid told me he wanted me to join him at ISU.

Things must have really improved since I was in Grad school there in the 60s. While continually wasting my time playing pick-up BBall in the gym, I often faced the ISU star [leading rusher in the nation] Tommy Vaughn. In basketball we were pretty evenly matched, and a conversational relationship arose. Vaughn actually said to me that he'd signed with Iowa State thinking it was the Big Ten school, and nobody told him differently until he reported to camp and it dawned on him this was Ames and not Iowa City.

Well, he said the girls used to recruit him were hot, so there was that.

Vaughn played many years at safety in the pros, so that worked out too.

{someone here just asked me if I was any good at BBall... well, debatable, I guess. "Late bloomer", that at least is true. I'd like to think that i could play [beat Vaughn head-to-head in our pick-up games 80% of the time; played on a grad school barnstormer which would scrimmage, and beat, the local small colleges in Cleveland] and... well, he!l, sure I was good. Could I have taken "you" when we were both in our primes? Maybe. You would have to have a lot of game yourself though.}.

That is a wonderfully brilliant story. Happy Independence Day!

Anything new here? Is he still 97% to ISU or have those percentages changed?

Allen Lazard discussed Iowa State commitment and Notre Dame

He says he's firm to ISU (family ties are huge ... brother is a walk-on, dad played there, mom went there), but he has a great relationship with Bob Elliot, who has been recruiting him since he was at ISU himself, and with Alford, and he will OV to ND for either the OU game or the USC game.
