Hmm...clearly he's either still open to switching his commitment, or he's taking us for a ride for free entertainment at the two biggest home games we have this season.

Never been to either on, but does iowa state have a better weight room than ND? Seems silly to even think that.

Doesn't matter. Weight rooms will only get you so far. We have superior talent and coaching. That's what matters.

I agree but Iowa state? Possible he is just saying that?

He said that because they have a newer center. Notre Dame has everything they need to win in their weight room. And Longo is constantly looking for anything he thinks will help the team improve and gets it.

Our weight room isn't that old if I recall. I think it's within the last 10 years they put it in. Still, I have no idea what Iowa State's looks like.

The Gug opened in 2005, so it's 8 years old.

I had to unfollow Lazard on twitter because he's so pro ISU. He doesn't sounds like he's flipping anytime soon so I just don't see it happening. Hopefully Iowa State does really horrible this season.

Doest seem any better if at all. A weight room is a weight room to me.

The Iowa State weight room is world class. There's an article earlier in this thread about it. I'm on my iPad so can't pull it up right now but basically Iowa State decided they needed to have an edge somewhere and the weight room is it. It may be the best in the country. They went all out.

And with Lazard, it's not just the weight room, it's the strength and conditioning coach. He is mesmerized by him.

His dad being a former ISU player and formerly working at ISU doesn't hurt either. Plus Allen's brother is on the ISU football team too.

I'd rather just wrap up Holmes in July. That way ISU can celebrate winning a desperate recruiting battle against us, we can pat them on the head and then move on.

Take both :)

I doubt we would. Between Brent and Holmes, we'd already have two guys in Lazard's mold. We'll be taking at least one shifty possession WR (McKenzie) and holding a spot for a big name (Quick, Sims, etc.) If Holmes beats him to the punch, I think Lazard's outta luck.

Best in the country? Did you see 'Bama's new weightroom? It's HUUUUUUUGE!

I didn't know this before NDW247 posted but it is pretty nice.

This may be a silly question, but why are these weight rooms SO ENORMOUS, with endless rows of the same equipment. It's visually impressive, but seems a little much. There's only so many guys on the team. 85 men, 85 squat racks?

As for Mr. Lazard, I'm always dubious about elite kids who commit early to hometown programs that traditionally suck (same with Elam and Kentucky). Maybe his family ties keep him there and if so, God bless. But I'd lay significant odds that some point this season, he's going to see them getting drubbed, on their way to 5-7, and realize that he alone isn't going to be enough to change that. And then he'll call Bob Elliott.

I said MAY be the best in the country. Of course many are comparable, but bigger isn't always better...at least that's what my wife tells me.

Edit: Italics definitely needed for the last part :)

I've pulled for ISU every year since Chizik left but I guess this will be the year I root against them. I don't think he sticks with ISU if they don't make a bowl.

I replied this immediately after your post but apparently my post got eaten by the NSA. Here's another try.

The Gug opened in '05 and ISU's Bergstrom Football Complex in '12, so it's newer by 7 years.

Bergstrom is a 60,000 S.F. addition to the existing football facility while the Gug is 50% larger at 90,000 S.F. If I recall correctly the Gug isn't football athletes only.

Here are videos for Bergstom and the Gug. A more weight training oriented Phd ( mbeckha ... mbeckha ... mbeckha) than someone like me can comment on the state of the art of the equipment. The Gug has had 7 years of experience but I suspect worn equipment like old TVs gets updated as appropriate.

Why the Battle of the Weight Rooms?

Because they can until the NCAA sets a limit (like pages in Media Guides). It part of the Arms Race. Testosterone. Mine's bigger than their's. And WE can make YOU bigger than they can. (and you can watch more channels!)

Official for either the Oklahoma or Southern Cal game. Says Iowa State set the bar pretty high.

He is playing this like a pro. He is saying everything to keep the home town crowds happy, and to keep the coaching staff at ND interested. He is motivating at ND for the best possible showing. He can come and without making everybody feel bad, say either "Thanks but no thanks, I still have my first love,: or "Man, I was wowed off my feet!" He has it set up as a win-win for everybody except the school that loses his recruitment.

Does anyone know if his parents are really trying to keep him close to home?
