Always a fan of offers to kids who earn it by showing their stuff in person. Seems like diet Tavon Austin.

And the countdown is on...3, 2, 1...why hasn't he committed yet?

I'd be surprised if he already didn't and they are just waiting to announce it.

The kid can play and wants to be at ND 100%. That is exactly what BK looks for. What more can you want? This kid will do whatever he can to improve the team and will be a great asset even if (God-forbid) he gets injured day 1 and can't play a down of football.

Samspon is hearing that ND's first impression was that he's not in a rush to commit.

Real happy for the kid. Must have been a nervous experience standing by on an offer you really want.

I would welcome with open arms a faster Robby Toma who could also return kicks and punts, especially with the attitude he has in regards to being a true team player.

I'm apparently the only one not salivating here.

Faster Toma? A taller Toma ran a 4.50 for pro scouts carrying an additional 20 pounds. A faster Toma was Joey Getherall. I have Getherall's HS tape. It blows this one away.

Is he really only 5'8" or does he play against shorter competition? Watching the highlight clip he didn't look like a small guy against the other players.

He makes people miss with his change of direction but I got the impression he does it alone not utilizing blockers. On the pick on the far side of the field, he's returning the ball with a convoy of teammates on his left shoulder and a clear lane down the sidelines. Instead he throws on the breaks and cuts right into the bulk of the opposing team's players and gets tacked at midfield. Exciting run back to midfield but simply sliding left between his blockers he had a TD.

The offer list looks more like a MAC list. I see ND and WVU those are a good start. UC, RU, BC aren't "A" offer list.

Now I realize it's only June, still early in the cycle but are we that desperate to be drooling over a 5'8" 160 receiver? I thought Kelly like tall receivers and corners.

He's not going to be returning kicks for ND at 160. He might be a punt returner but not K.Os he lacks the mass. And looking at those well developed biceps, there may not be a lot of room on that frame.

Congratulations on earning an ND offer. I'd like to see how he does in 7 on 7, head to head with Div 1 caliber talent and not the defenders on that HS video before getting excited.

No, you're not alone.

I'd be kind of disappointed if the staff took his pledge in the near future.

Gonna agree with BGIF here. Ran a 4.55 40 at a recent combine which at his size isn't really that good. If you are going to recruit someone at that size, they better be a blazer. Plus his offer list is extremely mediocre. Best case scenario IMO for him at ND would be a little quicker Robby Toma IMO. I think they're other prospects on our board that we have a good enough shot at that we don't need to reach early but obviously the staff saw something they like.

Dexter Mccluster ran a 4.58 in the NFL combine and he was one of the fastest guys i ever seen in college, and he has similar measures. A lot of small players, who we think they will fly against the chronometer, then disappoint in the 40 dash time, but on the field they are bullets. Every year some guy who we think is a sub 4.4, then goes to the 4.6 range.

You can see in the video that he is a faster, more explosive and smooth in his cuts than Toma, and without putting much effort. Give me a guy with acceleration, a guy who can change direction and break some ankles and not a guy who only has straight-line speed.

If the staff offered him I'm cool with it. They know a lot more than I know by watching 5 minutes of film and looking at numbers and measurement from recruiting websites that aren't always too accurate. I know American Heritage (Plantation) and they play solid competition, the private schools in South FL are no joke, a step above most private schools in other states, pound for pound. Are there "better" prospects out there? Probably, but once again I have only a tiny bit of info in a big picture to judge him, not nearly the info the staff is going off of.

Ha, you got that right. Gilliard played at a school just north of we're I live now and they arent known for their level of competition. It's almost like BK has done this before...

I'm sure you aren't alone, but I for one am in the completely opposite boat. I love this kid. There are guys just like him playing well on teams throughout the NCAA. One could look at offers, stars (star chaser?) and fake 40 times. But those are all just easy ways to pick out well evaluated prospects. This kid is not well evaluated. What I see in McKenzie is a great competitor (as evidenced by his interviews), a kid with great "football speed", a kid with fantastic football instincts, a kid that has a great deal of amazing tape at a good level of FL hs football (he plays against good talent, not poor talent as you inferred in your post), played both ways very well, has good hands, lays the wood for a kid his size and finally... stood out on a team that had several D1 recruits playing on it (including our beloved Deeb).

This kid is not a Heggie type offer. I would expect McKenzie to contribute to this football team, be drama free, lead by example and have a sincere desire to make our football team better.

I got excited about him when Deeb said he was the most explosive athlete is South Florida. He doesn't strike me as someone easily impressed.

You're also comparing McKenzie a 17 year old HS player to Toma who has gone through 4 years of the ND strength and conditioning program and probably trained for that 40 and all the ins and outs of running it for months.
