Yup, don't always understand the "guys that want to be here" argument. It doesn't make much sense, because in the end, we truly do get "only the guys that want to be here" lol. With the rare exception (like Lynch) of course. But usually, the guys that "want to be here" are the ones that sign their LOI. As a phrase, it means almost nothing.

Even if the recruit is wavering, it doesn't mean he "doesn't want to be here."

I would listen if Malzahn gave me a call as well. But it wouldn't mean I didn't want to be at ND. Maybe I like both places equally, and want to be both places, hence my wavering?

You guys know that Jaylon talks to ohio st and usc still right? Im sure more than 3/4 of the class are still getting and taking calls from other schools. Thats what happens when you are recruiting the top talent in the country. ND isnt recruiting the John Ryans of classes. They are recruiting the elite kids at their position..which means everyone else is too. The staff knows how to seal the deal, and knows how to hold on to these kids. Its not an exact science but BK has been doing this for 25 years. Trust the guy

Irishlion, I think you some good points. What I would point out is that if they offer their commitment then at that point they should say to themselves that ND is where I want to be.

You know, a simple "All is well" would have sufficed!

Because the close to last year's class warrants so much trust....

I'm actually downright shocked that Jaylon still talks to people. Why? Why don't kids just stop picking up the phone?

Just another reason why an early signing period is 100% necessary. Kids who really want in sign early, and then for everyone else you know that a "verbal" is completely meaningless. Clears everything up in a hurry.

i guess cos the kids develope genuine friendships with their recruiters, and im sure alot of recruiters are doing the "oh you are going to School X and not us?... well thats ok we still think you are a stud" just in case down the line the kid wants to transfer etc.

Early signing period leads to more transfers as well. Sure everyone hates a de-commitment but at the sametime ND gets their fair share from kids that change their mind. If a kid changes his mind so be it, but if a kid signs in April and theres no chance for officials to make sure he made the right decision. ND benefits from this just bc it gives them another chance to sell ND.

Here's my prediction: we get a top five class or better. Kelly, Martin, Diaco, Elliot et al coach everybody up, Everett and/or Gunner figure the offense out very well, we roll to 11-1 and a BCS bowl next season, Notre Dame experiences glory again, while being saddened because multiple IE posters have dropped dead prematurely [in every sense of the world] due to personal angst, then Kelly does it again for 2014.

Is there preliminary soft data supporting this scenario? Yep, think so.

Although I don't agree with it, thats why everyone (except us) oversigns.

Riddick wore it well during his senior year especially.

Really excited to see what this kid can do bc I think his ceiling his much higher. Holding onto him is crutial. My faith lies in Alford!

How dare you, he gave his all to ND, it's not his fault that ND couldn't recruit back then. Not sure if I should use italics or not.
