told both 247 and ISD there hadn't been any contact by the staff for a while and had eliminated ND but would listen and consider ND if coaches reinitiated contact. Elston called him tonight and said they are still interested and want to get him to campus. he is visiting Florida this weekend and wants to get visits set up to Syracuse and Notre Dame.

IMO Notre Dame is 10-0. arrow pointing up. Mattingly was supposedly a life long fan. Now he's looking around. Train is leaving the station with or without him.

So it would be the banquet for him to visit if he's coming for a fb event. I find this interesting they are pursuing him. They obviously know something we don't.

If he can grow into a DE in the 3-4 i'd take him over Mattingly. If not than i'd give a slight edge to Mattingly.

Ogundeko (0.8947) is rated slightly higher than Mattingly (0.8898), but I'd still much rather keep Mattingly for his versatility. Not to mention that Ogundeko just doesn't seem like good fit to me.

I'd have agreed with Whiskey, but Sapp is saying that ND does see Ogundeko playing DE down the line. I hadn't thought of that but I guess could see him growing from OLB to a 3-4 DE, a la KLM.

I still think I'd rather have Mattingly, as Ogundeko would basically be just a less-explosive duplicate of Muhammad in this class, whereas Mattingly brings a skill set that we don't already have, but the fact that the staff thinks Ogundeko can play DE definitely makes him more attractive. I'm worried about DL depth.

Hmmmm.... this would seem to indicate to me that the staff may believe:
a]. that they're likely to lose somebody in this general area, and
b]. this particular athlete has enough of the right stuff to fit in here.
c]. add to that, it is my intuition that this guy has the body type to become a true DE. 230+ now, and who knows what as a freshman? An accomplished pass rusher [the number one need in modern football --- along with great DTs and cover corners]. Perhaps a Prince Shembo aggressive fast bull-rusher. And potentially bigger.

I don't know why I'd want to make too many assumptions about whether he's a desirable recruit for us at this moment. I'll bet that the ND message is: we MUST see you on campus.

Per Sampson Ogundeko reached out to ND and ND is recruiting him for DE.

I don't think AQM has the frame to get to 280+ and retain his explosiveness while I think Ogundeko can. We need DLs. Look at his offer list. If Mattingly leaves I'd gladly take Ogundeko.

I'll take him or Mattingly. Whoever wants to be here I'll take.

Still don't understand why the ND fan base hates this kid.

I'd like Ebenezer and AQM. With Hayes and Ishaq in the fold that is some serious tri-state representation in the front 7.

I think some people just got all hot and bothered when he kept changing his commit date. Liked as a player, annoyed by the emotion toying.

I'm in line with what ND said. IF Danny leaves, I'll take him. If Danny stays, the only way I'll take him is we have spots left at NSD.

Still really wish we could have gotten Dajaun Drennon. That kid is gonna be a star.

I really wanted drennon as well. The one take away from everything that I've read is that ebenezer is going to take sometime. Maybe a lot like an ishaq. A lot of potential but 2-3 years of coaching before reaping the benefits. Where as I think AQM could be ready to be a 3rd down pass rusher from day 1. Good news is if we were to take him we'd have the luxury of giving him that time

Not bad, but I agree with RI and IM77. I do trust BK and Diaco though. If they want him, I'm sure they have a good reason.

That's interesting... Sapp has said that the ND staff sees AQM growing into a DE, but maybe if they get Ogundeko as well they figure that allows them to keep AQM lean so he stays quick enough to play CAT throughout his career. I like that plan.

When I watch AQM's tape I see a lean guy with a long, broad frame who looks like he could put on a lot of weight, but sometimes when a guy is that lean to start with extra weight really slows him down. I'll be interested to see what Longo does with him.

Maybe this is an indication that we're coming in 2nd for someone like Redfield, and we're looking to finish up the class with a high-upside project.

Seems like AQM is the only sure-thing we have on the board, and even he has visits to take.

The word is Ebenezer reached out to us, and we invited him for a visit. Sounds to me like we are simply keeping all our options open, as we should.

If that's the case, it is exactly what previous staffs failed to do. This is the time of year where things get interesting and winning keeps you in a lot of recruiting battles! Kudos to the coaching staff for keeping their options open!

Agreed. This is one of the biggest recruiting distinguishers from the previous staffs to this one. They recruit both committed and non-committed kids up until NSD regardless of position and spots, just in case anything happens. The previous staffs' inability to do this left our roster with several gaping holes when their top targets went elsewhere. This staff, however, has been much better at having plan B ready and keeping roster management a priority.

you gotta think when the inevitable coaching carousel kicks off in December that alot of recruits will be back on the market. This is where ND coaches do the real work. Always worth keep a spot open for any late decommits from other schools.

Right, I think this has more to do with Mattingly than Redfield. Since Mattingly is taking visits, we are preparing to fill his spot should it become available. If Mattingly weren't taking visits, I don't know if we'd have invited Ebenezer in for a visit. He was off the radar before Redfield was even in the picture.

don't see the problem with this at all...kid wants to visit sure come on up, but just know we can't take your commitment right now should that be your decision. just goes to show you how recruits are taking notice into what's going on in south bend

I am wondering if Coach thinks that only two 5ths will be back [Fox and Watt]. The situation with Cierre looks a little sour from Cierre's point of view, and Jamoris will probably not get a 6th [unless I've missed the news here]. Big Zach is going, I'm betting, and sad about it. When asked about Zach, Kelly said: "He's lapping the field. Grading out in the 90s all the time while others are in the 70s". That's a major consistent O-Lineman and therefore highly valued. That of course still leaves Carlo, who has played better, but if it came down to it, since Fox would be there, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelly counting just two spots as "out" at least in the flexible plan.

I suppose that this is relevant to these recruiting threads even without mentioning the recruits' names.

any ideas on what zach is grading out as in the draft projections??

he doesn't have ideal size for tackle in the league.

sorry to highjack the thread.
