These new helmets look amazing, but I am really bummed that the students will no longer paint them. That being said, these are miles better than the old ones and are much better than some new jersey.

Kelly sure has been changing traditions this year. I haven't been to a game this year, but to those that have, what do you think of the new player's walk? Better or worse?

Player walk is worse, but it is better for the team so we should all just deal with it

according to the ND facebook page " The new method of painting is not in the skill set/ capabilities of the student managers" Basically, they still paint them, and THEY STILL HAVE REAL GOLD, its just a different method, look at the comparison to the old on the ND Football Facebook, its amazing, the detail on the helmets up close really does look just like the dome

To be fair, the comparison shots use a round chipped up "old helmet" while the new helmet is pristine and is one of the more angular helmets. Don't get me wrong, I like the new helmets a lot, but I think ND did this intentionally to make the current? helmets look old and outdated.

It was a great tradition having the student managers painting the helmets.

A dorm mate of mine was one of the student managers whose task it was to paint the helmets. He wore the gold paint that he got on himself as a badge of honor.

He didn't mind missing the Friday keggers, either, since the paint fumes left him one happy Domer.

I think that given normal conditions the change in the helmet would warrant the team debuting the helmets as a surprise one weekend. However, I think they (whoever knows what the unis are actually going to be) are deliberately giving this to the public to generate a little hype. (IMO) There is something huge planned for the SC game and this is only a small taste of what the whole uniform will look like.
