I'm wondering where the five minutes came from? What's the deal with that?I don't know shit about soccer. That's some stupid rule?

ha, I laughed when you first asked, "Someone knows nothing about soccer"...

During each half the ref has a watch, whenever someone: scores, kicks the ball far out of bounds, gets injured,... anything that stops the game, he is supposed to turn the watch on and turn it off when play resumes... when the end of the game comes he adds THAT (whatever the total time amounted to) time to the end of the game... it's called stoppage time.

It's intent is to prevent teams from scoring one goal and just faking injury after injury purposely wasting time.

Yup, like others have said, 1-0 would not sit well IMO with this team. It would feel like they held on for their life for that victory. The fact that Ghana drew even and then JAB headed his way to victory is a big confidence boost. They played well in the final 10.

Michael Bradley, where were you tonight?/

Lots of poor plays and fatigue lead to loss in possession.

And be honest: who's cardio would out last Ghana's?

Reports indicate Almedia and Coentrao will miss next two games from injury.

Deuce has a broken nose. Altidore hammy reportedly strained. No word on Besler or Bedoya.

Question... how was that kick to the face not penalized? Is that not a foul?

Only thing I can think of was that it was deemed incidental but still that was one high leg kick.

That was my first game watch with AO and I can definitely say I will never not watch a game with the group again. Really great time and rowdy crowd. MERICA!

Thank you! Now I know.

Yeah that's the first soccer game I've ever watched in entirety.

USA USA USA! :) I'm a bandwagoner.

My biggest concerns for the game was 1. we went into prevent/defensive mode way too early 2. on attack our players were not moving to space, they looked crowded 3. on counters there was no supporting runs. Ghana is a way more physical team than Portugal so with Klinsman making adjustments and first game "jitters" all gone I think we fare well next Sunday.

Good thing the Spurs took care of business early so I can 100% hop on the US bandwagon without any distractions.

Speaking of, soccer gets crapped on for players flopping, but there is WAY more contact in soccer than in basketball.

Definitely a yellow card. Officiating was spotty but consistent tonight.

The officiating was like Juice from SoA.... just consistently terrible decisions.

I would be more confident about Jozy playing on Sunday if he had walked off but him needing to be lifted off puts doubt in my mind. At worst, he'll be back for Germany, as long as it's just a strain.

If all goes well hopefully he is NOT on the field versus Germany.

A draw versus Portugal should suffice, given Germany gets 3 points from Ghana. (We would be on 4 points forcing Portugal to win vs. Ghana and make up a large GD).

Obviously winning vs Portugal puts us through (technically, barring Ghana defeating Germany and Portugal, and Germany beating us all and GD does not go our way. (AKA not going to happen).

Hopefully Altidore is healthy. Not having him really hurt our possession and countering ability. Besler was very solid before he went out as well. Hopefully he is back (though JA Brooks played very well after his first 5 or so minutes).

Glorious win. But we will need to play better than that offensively if we want to keep winning. From the time Altidore went out, we looked out of sync. Hopefully he is back soon.

Johansen is not a point man like Altidore. They need to devise different tactics for him. He is better running onto balls than hold up play. Klinnsman can get it right.

Can someone please help me understand what is so special about this Bradley character besides his shaved dome? I thought his play yesterday was atrocious and cannot understand the hype. How many turnovers did he have, 15? The announcer was so on his jock as well, SMH.

If he goes, we go. It is amazing we won yesterday considering Bradley played his worst game. He is our best player IMO. If he plays well against Portugal, we win. If he doesn't, we draw or lose.

How many USA injuries are we away from allowing Kobe Bryant to play?

Yes, I know this would never happen, but hear me out.

He's arguably the most popular athlete in the World.

By all accounts, a good soccer player and huge enthusiast of the game.

He has nothing better to do right now.

No, he's not good enough to beat someone out who's currently on the team (at least I doubt it, but it's Kobe, who knows?).

But he's 6'6" and the fiercest competitor on the planet IMO.

He could sit at the goal and cherry pick for head butts, much like the black guy from Italy does. Would it really be that different?

Every borderline Soccer fan, and even Soccer haters would watch. This would be bigger than the NBA Finals, and every single TV in America would be on for every game.

This would change the landscape of Soccer in the USA, and as an investor, Team USA would benefit wildly from this in the future because of the hype it'd bring to Soccer in America.

I'll leave you with this. Featuring the baddest man on the planet:

He was atrocious. His passing and decision making should've cost us the game imo. Why doesn't he attack the defense ever? I admit I haven't paid much attention to the U.S. team, so i'm not up to speed on who the key guys are. Certainly losing Altidore hurts big time. That's why i wish Donovan was on the team for his veteran leadership, but hindsight always 20/20. The ball control overall sucked as well. How many turnovers did they have?

Isn't Kobe still recovering from a torn Achilles?
