He will not be the man at UK. His high school teammate is Landon Young. Wills is a borderline 5 star OT who has never played LT. If he goes to UK, he's back in not only 6-7 Young's shadow but the even bigger shadow of Calipari and his CBA squad.
Calling Bama a football-centric, top of the world show might be powerful when comparing them to Vandy or Duke but when you compare them to ND, not so much. Football is woven into the fabric of ND as much as Bama and is in the same Top 5 tier national brand. Every game is on tv and Showtime came to them first for their concept. All other schools like Bama, FSU & OSU need to be on top to get the daily national coverage. When they are 8-4 they go back to regional obscurity. When ND is bad, they get more coverage from clickmasters throwing shade. If ND wins a NC and goes 12-1, 13-1, a few years straight, they'd break the internet.
If winning a "guaranteed" NC is the most important thing then that's a difficult and legitimate feature to sell against in the sales process. Hard to tell a kid to blaze his own path and win a NC at a program on the cusp when high profile athletes like LBJ and KD sign for the ring(s).
