In an article on ISD, Denbrock told a California receiver and his coach that we aren't giving an offer to him because "we have only about 18 scholarships to give next year". Denbrock also said that we were only going to take TWO WRs [counting the one already committed as one of those two.

This might be mildly stretching the truth by Denbrock, but if literally true then it casts interesting light on the idea that we are looking at four OLine and at least three DLine plus three or four LBs, and a QB and a TE. If two WRs is true, then that's 15 accounted for of the 18. One RB? makes 16. Only two slots then for DBs [and no specialists].

Our own data-poor estimates have been in the 20-21 area. Hopefully Denbrock is slightly going conservative for gamesmanship reasons.

Wow, that tells me the staff is very high on the WR's already on the roster as well as Brent. Not that they shouldn't be but telling to say the least.

He may not be counting Tate Nichols as a possibly medical and may not be counting a possible transfer or two. I bet he is going conservative with that number growing in a few months.

Todd or another Wr told 247 3 total recievers I believe

Todd may have misunderstood in the ISD article

2 outside and 1 inside

I mean we are pursuing more outside guys than inside

the other reason could be just to keep the coals warm w/ him and see if higher rated indvs want a spot 1st w/out

1. losing his interest
2. losing any extra momentum w/ our recruitment of Tyler

The Tunnel Vision this week was really info packed. Wow. A lot of really good prospects we are in with for very limited spots. Was most shocking to hear about the number of talented guys we AREN'T pursuing who would have interest. Does it make you wonder about guys like Justin Brent grabbing an early spot? I don't know.

Really hope staff is still ready to take Trumbetti if he wants in.

Anecdote on Sam Hubbard was really interesting... didn't know he was a serious football prospect... but he has 3 BCS offers now which might make it difficult to keep him. Was recruited by all the big boys for lacrosse... Hopkins, Duke, etc.... very academics first... but a full ride for football might be > a small partial ride for lacrosse. Boston College and Illinois aren't bad schools either. Reallllllly hope we hold onto him.

for the topic adressed above about WR #s

per 247 the staff wants 2 WR and 1 TE but they would most certainly take a highly rated or jumbo athlete WR/TE in addition to the 3

Gibbons, Snodgrass, Casey Tucker, etc. I mean... speaking frankly... all of those guys are MUCH better prospects than certain other players we've taken in previous cycles. Snodgrass is a very legit WR and Gibbons, to me as an untrained idiot, seems to have the athletic ability to have tremendous upside.

Tucker is flat out a top OL recruit that we could steal from a rival. Mind boggling.

Wow. Snodgrass and Drake Harris? Maybe the staff is really going for gold? I guess?

You gotta remember last season, going 12-1 should translate to the 2014 class more so than 2013. It's just kinda how it works. That is saying something though because the 13' class is amazing! Swing for the fences this year and should hit quite a few home runs!

Anyone else taking any east coast commits with a grain of salt since this could be Diaco's last year?

Let's fire up the Diaco talk in another thread. I'd like to discuss it since we're at a slow period if anyone is up for it.

I doubt that will make a huge difference. The program will need to have another great year for Diaco to leave and at that point htese kids SHOULD be married to the school, not the coach who's selling it.

Overview for those without premium:

Basically a hypothetical class that we could end up with in 2014. Has us taking 19 commits:
QB Dawkins
RB Hood
WR Andrews
WR Brent
WR Scott
TE Blazevich
OL Bars
OL McDermott
OL Byrne
OL Mustipher
DL Hayes
DL E. Smith
DL A. Williams
DL Trumbetti
LB Martini
LB Morgan
LB Bates
DB Quick
DB Gibson

Definitely lacks the star power of class of 2013, and obviously has no chance of playing out exactly like this, but if you told me this would be our exact 2014 class I'd be ecstatic. Nothing but 4 and 5 stars, 16 of 19 in the original Rivals250, and hits needs.

Seriously. I'd sign up for that right now.

This right here adds the type of depth that championship teams possess to sustain a run.
