Who do you want to replace Brian Kelly?

I'm obviously not sold on Fedora which is why I said I was going to watch them going forward. But the question is whether he could do better at ND with ND's resources and prestige than BK. It's not a straight comparison. It's embarrassing that their overall numbers are that close given Fedora coaches UNC.

Like I said though, they are the same age which would pretty much eliminate him in my book anyway.

All it took for me was seeing that he has a worse record than BK and plays a much easier schedule. What makes me think he'd do better with a tougher schedule? It's not like he doesn't have talent on his team. UNC classes the past four years have averaged almost in the Top 25.

You know, I don't think I've seen his name thrown out there, but Tom Allen has made some masterful defensive turnarounds. (Thought of this after Urban said IU would be the toughest defense they have faced to date.) Currently at IU, who has gone from 105th in defense last year to 37th so far this year (opponent adjusted). Allen is from New Castle, IN and has coached at Ben Davis High School, USF, Ole Miss, Ark St, as well as some smaller schools all with pretty damn good results.

He currently makes just $500k in his first year at IU as an Associate HC and Defensive Coordinator.

Who would be your top 3 replacements for Kelly and BVG?? And make them realistic as possible

HC -
Herman ( I would hope this would be realistic)
Chris Petersen ( If we throw enough money at him?)
Whittingham (Always has a strong D)

DC-
No idea...
the Dr. Pepper guy?

If you watched the last ND series on offense and you don't want BK fired then you need mental help.

What about Packers OC and former Irish QB Tom Clements? I know he was a name to watch in the hiring process last time before we landed Kelly.

Ok, so it's been a long time since I've posted on here or even logged in; but on this topic I just can't resist. As it relates to BK staying our head coach, I'm on the side of getting rid of him AFTER the season should we fail to reach the .500 mark.... However, I would be ok with BK getting a lifeline if he brings Charlie Strong in as the DC (Not likely, I know...Rockne rising from the grave to shake the crap out of BK to get some sense back in him is probably more likely; but hey, this is a wishful thinking / speculation type of thread).... So BK only stays if he brings in Charlie Strong as the new DC.....

So who to replace BK??? Again, alot of wishful thinking here....

#1.) Dabo Swinney - My clear cut #1 choice. Do whatever it takes to bring him here. When Dabo retires from coaching, he could be one of the winngest head coaches of all time. Not sure he would leave Clemson, as we all know the differences in difficulities of coaching at a Clemson compared to ND (admissions, academics, overall integrity standards, etc.) and I know he has criticized ND's independence in the past, but it would be worth checking the interest level. Would be an absolute homerun hire.
#2.) Tony Dungy - Class act. Would never throw his players under the bus. Would fix defensive issues; could become one of the most honored and revered coaches in the college game should he entertain the idea of coaching at ND.
#3.) Stoops FAMILY - meaning I only want "Big-Game" Bob as head coach if he brings brothers Mike and Mark to fix the defense.
#4.) Jon Gruden - Don't know how his complex schemes would translate to the college game; but his enthuthiasm and intensity would rival that of Harbaugh and Gruden's work ethic is absolutely insane. Would love to see him match wits with Saban in a Nat'l Championship game.
#5.) Skip Holtz - a true college coach; never been a great or a "hot" coach, but someone who is consistent and understands college football and, perhaps most importantly, understands the ND culture. Probably the most realistic candidate on my list. I think he would embrace the challenge's that being the HC at Notre Dame would throw at him and would be a helluva sleeper pick as a Head Coach.

#1 is the only coach on that list that I would want, and I think Dabo will keep doing his thing at Clemson for 1-3 more years until Saban retires. Then he will return to mama and take the Alabama job.

Sounds like a lot of guys on Irish Envy would be great replacements for Kelly.

I'm not sure Dabo is the right fit for Notre Dame, personality-wise, but the guy is a hell of a football coach. If we could get him, that'd be a good outcome. The rest of the guys on Hoosier's list ain't (or shouldn't be) happening.

I'm still Team BK. But if his time is really through, I think we need a proven, experienced P5 head coach, but also to realize that we're probably not going to pull an elite program type like Urban Meyer. Those moves just don't happen. So guys like Kyle Whittingham, Paul Chryst, Fuente at Va Tech. Shaw or D'Antonio if we could get them, but both seem like they'd rather not bother with the extracurriculars required of coaching at Notre Dame. I'm still not convinced any of these people are upgrades over Brian Kelly.

Realistically, Skip is the only one in this list that would come. Not saying that's who I'd take.

That Mich State coach would be a great hire imo. Granted, BK recruited for spread and he is more pro set offense but they guy develops talent from low lv recruits. Seems low key and not a social moron like Miles, etc. And you have to assume MSU isnt paying him that much. We are talking about MSU here.

Dantonio would be on my short list if I was Jack S. The guy has put together some solid teams over the past few years, with access to less talent and fewer resources. I like his style and demeanor as well. If Dantonio has any ambition (and what P5 level HC does not) I'd say he'd be hard-pressed to turn down an offer from Notre Dame.

I agree that he'd be a good fit, but I'm not sure he'd be interested. He's built the program into a consensus top ten team now and he doesn't present himself as a guy who has to prove himself again. Could be wrong though.

I think Harbaugh changes everything for MSU... especially because Harbaugh is looking to recruit MSU type guys to a certain degree. I don't know that MSU will be able to "out tough" UM anymore.

ND is the perfect place for Dantonio. Ohio guy who went to school at South Carolina then has coached in Ohio or Michigan since except for a short stint as KU's DB coach in the 90's and they had one of the most successful periods in Jayhawk history.

All things considered, would be my first choice as ND HC

Yes you are wrong. If ND called and offered a job, do you really think he's staying at MSU? Come on now...

As much as I love D'Antonio he is 6 years older than BK. I think that would be the wrong direction to go. Need to go younger.

I'm surprised no one has talked about it but are there any chances we can get Jim Tressell? I know the past is shady, and he has no connections. But his suspension ends in 2017 and I don't think it would be a bad idea if we do go looking for a new coach. Idk, I'm a punk teenage melenial, and I probably know very little and will get blasted. I wouldn't mind keeping Kelly, but in the case of getting a new coach, I think Tressell should be considered.
